Schnacker
Everett S. Schnacker, 89, Topeka, died July 27, 2001 at St. Francis Emergency Room in Topeka. He was born June 16, 1912 in Willard, the son of Charles F. and Bertha Frazier Schnacker. He was a lifelong resident of Topeka. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a crane operator for 33 years before retiring in 1974. Mr. Schnacker also farmed for many years and worked as a mechanic for most of his life. He married Virgie Gertrude Estabrook on Dec. 14, 1933 in Kearney, Neb. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Arliss Douglass, Topeka; three sons, Leland Schnacker, Mayetta, Darold Schnacker, Meriden, and Cecil Schnacker, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Funeral services were held July 31 at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial was in Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rolling Hills Christian Church, 4530 N.W. Hiawatha Place, Topeka, Kan. 66618-3504.

Wade
William D. Wade, 72, formerly of Topeka, died July 27, 2001 at his home in Perry. He was born May 8, 1929 in Ontario, the son of William Zara and Elsie Mae Warner Wade. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1947. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Washburn University in 1957. Mr. Wade worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas for 32 years before retiring as director of administrative services in March 1990. He served as an electronics technician second class in the Navy from 1947 to 1951. He was a member of Post 7209 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post 58 of the American Legion. He also was involved in youth athletics and coached youth for several years. He married Joan Darlene Utterback on Aug. 9, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Dr. Dennis Wade, Topeka; a daughter, Debbie Kay Stewart, Perry; two brothers, Eugene Wade, Grantville, and Richard Wade, Holton; a sister, Elsie Marie Wells, Holton; and five grandchildren. Mr. Wade was cremated. A memorial service was held July 31 at the Grantville Community Building. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kan. 66606-2800.

Coleman
Clifford Lee Coleman, 88, Valley Falls, died July 25, 2001 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 10, 1913 in Ozawkie Township south of Valley Falls, the son of Alexander Hamilton and Martha Adelia Armstrong Coleman. He moved with his parents to Topeka at an early age. Mr. Coleman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1956 he returned to Jefferson County, where he lived the rest of his life. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years, working on the Railway Mail Service and serving as a letter carrier in Topeka and rural mail carrier in Ozawkie. He retired from the postal service on June 29, 1973. He was a member of First Christian Church of Valley Falls, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Jefferson County Historical Society and a past president of the Valley Falls Historical Society. He married Dorothea Muriel Harshbarger on June 14, 1937 in Topeka. She died July 5, 1987. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Clifford Lee Coleman Jr., on Feb. 19, 1939. Survivors include a son, William B. Coleman, Valley Falls; three daughters, Kay Lassiter and D. Janine Johnson, both of Valley Falls, and Denise Riemann, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Louise Evearitt, Topeka; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 28 at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County 4-H and sent in care of the Jefferson County Extension Office, Oskaloosa, Kan. 66066.

Moseley
Elva L. Moseley, 86, Denison, died July 25, 2001 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born Sept. 4, 1915 in Onaga, the daughter of Arba and Cora Mitchell May. Mrs. Moseley was a member of the Denison Bible Church, the Women's Missionary Society and the quilting club at the church. She married Paul M. Moseley on March 4, 1933. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1998. She also was preceded in death by a son, who died in infancy; two grandsons, William Paul Renner and Paul Renner; a great-grandson, Zachary Thomas Tanking; and two brothers, Chester May and Elmer May. Survivors include three sons, David M. Moseley, Denison, Steven C. Moseley, Topeka, and Michael P. Moseley, Hoyt; a daughter, Saundra L. Renner, Mayetta; a brother, Ernest May, Onaga; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 30 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial was in Havensville Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Denison Bible Church, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Holton, Kan. 66436.

Campbell
Shirley Lacy Campbell, 78, formerly of Everest, died July 23, 2001 in Miami Lakes, Fla. She was born June 20, 1923, at Everest the daughter of William Wesley and Josephine Page Lacy. She graduated from Everest High School and Kansas State University in Manhattan. Mrs. Campbell volunteered at the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. She was a member of First Christian Church in Everest. She married Robert Campbell in 1943. He died in June 1979. Survivors include a sister, Donna Gechter, Muscotah; and a brother, Loren W. Lacy, California. Graveside services were held July 31 at Highland Cemetery in Junction City.

Damme
Dorothy Alice Damme, 92, Valley Falls, died Oct. 22, 2001 at a Topeka hospital. She was born June 11, 1909, at Soldier, the daughter of Myron L. and Kathryn Elizabeth Bahret Eaton. Mrs. Damme taught elementary school in the Hoyt, Meriden and Valley Falls communities. She retired in 1974. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge 652, the Young Women's Christian Association, the Forget-Me-Not Club, the Get-Together Club, and the Priscilla Club, all in Valley Falls. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority. She married Amold J. Damme on June 16, 1933. He died Aug. 21, 1977. An infant daughter, Beverly Rose Damme, died May 30, 1934. Survivors include a sister, Madeline Gragg, Valley Falls; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be in Hoyt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services, District 11, Valley Falls, Kan. 66088.

Bowhay
Edward Elmer Bowhay, 48, Mayetta, died Oct. 21, 2001 at the VA Medical Center in Topeka. He was born Aug. 3, 1953 in Seneca, the son of Virgil Vincent and Theodora Catherine Kuckleman Bowhay. He grew up in the Seneca community and was a graduate of Nemaha Valley High School in 1972. He had lived in Holton and Topeka before moving to the Mayetta community 18 years ago. Mr. Bowhay worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Topeka. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the Knights of Columbus at the church. He was also a member of the Intemational Association of Machinists. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He married Claudia Grace Loethen on May 1, 1982 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Vincent Edward Bowhay and Wayne Douglas Bowhay, both of the home; a daughter, Meredith Kathleen Bowhay, of the home; four sisters, Mary Boeckman and Betty Olberding, both of Seneca, Arminda Feldkamp, Centralia, and Marge Miller, Frankfort; three brothers, Jack Bowhay, Kansas City, Mo., Robert Bowhay, Dubois, Neb., and James Bowhay, Netawaka. A sister, Virginia Mitchell, preceded him in death. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Holton. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery west of Holton. He will lie in state at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Bowhay Children's Education Fund, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, Kan. 66436.

Mosher
Vemon R. Mosher Sr., 80, Topeka, died Oct. 21, 2001 at home. He was born Jan. 19, 1921 in the Barret community southwest of Frankfort, the son of Edward and Esther Bartram Mosher. He spent most of his life in Topeka. He was a batch operator for Kansas Sand. Co. in Topeka. Later he was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of North Post 400 of the American Legion and Moose Lodge 555, both in Topeka He married Bonnie M. Allensworth on Jan. 13, 1946 in Rushville, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Vernon R. Mosher Jr., Dennis J. Mosher and Edward G. Mosher, all in Topeka; three daughters, Janice K. Ables and Debbie F. Artzer, both in Topeka, and Cynthia M. Jewell, Mayetta; a sister, Virginia Gnagy, Waterville; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. North Post 400 of the American Legion will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Oct. 24, at Half Day Cemetery in the Elmont community north of Topeka. Mr. Mosher will lie state from noon to 9 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 23. Memorial contributions may made to Midland Hospice Care or Soldier Township First Responders and sent in care of the funeral home.

Edds
Catherine Edds, 95, Whiting, died Oct. 20, 2001 at a Hiawatha nursing home. She was born Aug. 7, 1906 at Whiting, the daughter of Charles and Katherine Brown Lentz. She was a graduate of Whiting High School and Baker University. She warked at the State Bank of Whiting for 50 years. She was a member of the Whiting United Methodist Church and the Whiting Chapter 287 of the Ordea of Eastern Star. She married Edgar Edds. He died Jan. 3, 1971. Survivors include a niece, Sharon DePriest, Memphis, Tenn.; and four great-nephews. Funeral services were held Oct. 24 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery in Whiting. Memorial contributions may be given to Whiting United Methodist Church, and sent in care of the funeral home.

Cosby
Ronald Keith Cosby Jr., 48, Mayetta, died Oct. 19, 2001 at a Topeka hospital. He had cancer. He was born April 18, 1953 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Ronald Keith and Ida Watts Cosby Sr. Mr. Cosby served in the Navy from 1975 to 1979. He was a former member of His House Ministries in Winnsboro, Texas. He married Laura L. McVaugh on Dec. 4, 1992 in Tulsa, Okla. They were divorced. Survivors include two daughters, Jessica N. Cosby, Winnsboro, Texas, and Crystalle Stovall, Topeka; three sisters, Diana Thomas and Cindy Catt, both of Mayetta, and Wanda Armstrong, Hoyt; a brother, Donald Cosby, Erie; and two grandchildren. Mr. Cosby was cremated. Memorial services were held Oct. 23 at Davidson Funeral Home. Inurnment in Leavenworth National Cemetery will be private. Military honors will be a Navy funeral detail. Contributions may be made to the Ronald Keith Cosby Jr. Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.

Eteeyan
Laura Mae Eteeyan, 75, Topeka, died Oct. 19, 2001 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Mayetta, the daughter of John Matchie and Rose Wamego Moore. She graduated from high school in Marty, S.D. She lived most of her life in the Topeka community. She worked for the Coffee Cup Cafe and Green's Grocery, both in Topeka. She later worked for Topeka Tent and Awning before she retired. She was a member of the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church west of Mayetta. She also attended Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. She married Archie Eteeyan in 1945 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, John Eteeyan, Sr. and Jimmy Eteeyan, both of Topeka; a daughter, Rose Pahmahmie Patterson, Olalla, Wash.; a brother, William Moore, Olalla Wash.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Oct. 24, at Shipshee Cemetery west of Mayetta.

Jones
Oliver R. Jones, 86, Holton, died Oct. 19, 2001 at a Topeka hospital. He was born May 15, 1915 in Seneca, the son of William and Mary Esther Bruce Jones. Mr. Jones was a farmer and worked for Haubold and Burnett Ranch for five years. He also worked for Frank Zibell near Holton for several years. He drove the sanitation truck for Leonard Taylor in Holton for 20 years. He then was self-employed, doing yard work in Holton before retiring a few years ago due to health reasons. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Holton. He married Bemice L. Kranz Jones on Jan. 25, 1975 in Holton. She survives. Other survivors include a brother, William Riley Jones Jr., Holton; a stepson, Ron Jones, Holton; three stepdaughters, Lois Jeanne Brewer, Ontario, Ore.; Darlene Jo Wade, Fruitland, Idaho, and Mary Lou Sanchez, Lawrence; 12 stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Oct. 23 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Holton.

Hart
Ione J. Hart, 96, Wetmore, died Oct. 18, 2001 at an Augusta hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1904 near Netawaka, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Porr Mell. She lived all her life in the Wetmore community where she graduated from Wetmore High School in 1922. She was a homemaker and also worked with her husband in the Hart Grocery and later at Hart's Locker, both in Wetmore. She was a member of Wetmore United Methodist Church ard the United Methodist Women's group at the church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastem Star, the Royal Neighbors, Fort Nightly Club, the H.D.U. and the American Legion Auxiliary, all at Wetmore. She married Raymond L. Hart on Oct. 15, 1925 in Topeka. He died Oct. 28, 1980. A son, Loren M. Hart, his wife Joan, and grandchildren Terri, Nancy and Bob Hart all preceded her in death in the Paris plane crash on March 3, 1974. Survivors include a son, Lyle Hart, Augusta; a grandson, Bill Hart, Ashland, Mo.; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at Wetmore United Methodist Church in Wetmore. Burial was in Wetmore Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wetmore United Methodist Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, Kan. 66436.

Hartley
Mary Jane Hartley, 71, Aurora, died Oct. 17, 2001 at a Belleville hospital. She was born Feb. 28, 1930 in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of John and Pearl Housch Clark. She married Eldon Hartley on Feb. 25, 1963. He survives at their home in Aurora. Other survivors include two sons, Eldon Garled Hartley, Jr., Clay Center, and Donald Lynn Hartley, Concordia; three daughters, Mary Elaine Johnsen, Sedro Woolley, Wash., Carol Ann Fitch, Palmer, and Barbara O'Conner, Aurora; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Clark, Clay Center, and Marvin Clark, Hutchinson; four sisters, Rose Chance, Bartlett, Tenn., Ella May Davidson, Cheney, Shirley Brook, Sacramento, Calif., and Earlene Landsdown, Norwood, Mo. Private family services and inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, 1104 20th St., Belleville, Kan. 66935.
