Eva Dorothy Kastning

ST. JOHN - Eva Dorothy Kastning, 86, died Oct. 31, 2001, at Leisure Homestead, St. John. She was a homemaker.

Graveside inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.

Survivors include: two sons, George, St. John, and Leonard, El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Virginia Myers, Ponca City, Okla., and Velda Young, St. John; a brother, Alvie Johnson, Ava, Mo.; and two sisters, Lucy Parker, Macksville, and Mildred Turner, Ellis.

Memorials may be sent to Leisure Homestead, St. John.

Joe D. Phillips

GOODLAND - Joe David Phillips, 70, died Dec. 18, 2002, at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital, Denver. He was born Jan. 22, 1932. A longtime Goodland resident, he worked for the railroad for several years as a brakeman. He also worked for Gambles, Burkett Dairy, Trash Truck and finally as a truck driver for Short & Sons, American Trucking, Burlington, Colo., Lewis Co-op, Meyers Trucking and MLS Trucking, both at Goodland.

A memorial service was held Monday at Bateman Funeral Home, Goodland.

Survivors include: wife Anna; five sons, John, Pratt, Joel and Ed, both of Goodland, Mark, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Karl, Alma, Neb., a daughter, Joyce Ballard, Lexington, Ky.; a stepson, Mike Donnor, Goodland; a brother, Don, Bethune, Colo.; and six sisters, Clarice Titus, Raytown, Mo., Florence Wareean, Crete, Ill., Edna Thomas, Arizona, Agnes Hinderson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mina Morton, Kingston, Mo., and Betty Kemp, Goodland.

Contributions in memory of Joe can be sent ot Bateman Funeral Home, Box 278, Goodland, KS 67735.

Donald Samuel Keller

PILOT POINT, Texas - Donald Samuel Keller, 73, died March 30, 2003, at Denton, Texas. He was born Aug. 28, 1929. He was a rancher and worked for Total Petroleum Inc., Hutchinson, for 13 years.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pilot Point Community Cemetery, Pilot Point, Texas. Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include: wife, Helen M.; two sons, including Kevin C. Beat, Cunningham; two daughters; and a sister, Jeanine Holovach, Sublette.

M. Eileen Frank

TURON - M. Eileen Frank, 77, died Dec. 17, 2003, at Wesley Towers, Thorn Care Center, Hutchinson.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Larrison Funeral Home, Turon, with Pastor Steve Gill presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Turon Cemetery, Turon.

She was born June 7, 1926, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Ralph Marion and Lillian Augustus Goertzen Hazen. A Turon resident for most of her life, she was a homemaker.

She was of the United Methodist religion, a member of United Methodist Women, and a past member of Rebekah Lodge of Turon and Preston.

On June 10, 1944, she married Gerald "Jerry" Frank at Turon. He died Sept. 22, 1997.

Survivors include: a son, Tom Frank and his wife Vickie, Turon; three granddaughters, Heather Dawn Frank, Sterling, Debra Kay Evans and husband Jason, Knoxville, Iowa, and Janelle Renee Johnson and husband Chris, Turon; two great-grandsons, Jaden Thomas and Trent Weston Daniel Evans, Knoxville, Iowa; and a step-great-grandson, Clayton Michael Kelly, Knoxville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Hazen, a sister, Eva Burhenn, and a grandson, Bryan Thomas Frank.

Memorials may be sent to Reno County Hospice or Turon EMTs, both in care of the funeral home.

Vera Geraldine Brown

Vera G. Brown, 94, homemaker, of Wellington, died early Monday morning, Jan. 24, 2000, at Wellington Place.

She was born Dec. 3, 1905 in Harper County, Okla., the daughter of John and Clara Crow Gorsage. She was united in marriage to Harry Brown, who precedes her in death.

Vera was associated with the First Christian Church for the past 10 years. She participated in the Bible study at the Wheat Capital Manor for many years.

Vera loved to crochet. She was noted for her cooking and baking, especially baking those pecan pies that her family and friends loved.

She was known as Aunt Vera to everyone who knew her. She is going to be greatly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Estel Gorsage; and sisters, Rose Baker, Marie Little, Carrie Smith, Edith Watkins and Fern Soderberg.

Survivors include her nephews, Rex Smith and his wife, Marilyn, of Albuquerque, N.M., Conn Smith Jr. and his wife, Marge, of Wichita, Jack Watkins and his wife, Carolyn, of Wichita, and Estel Gorsage Jr. of Wichita; nieces, Beverly Ridder and her husband, Bob, of Springfield, Mo., Shirley Gahman of Wichita, Denise Owen and her husband, Richard, of Wichita, Debra Parks and her husband, Jerry, of Wellington, Valverta Webster of Wichita, Dorothy Cleghorn of Rifle, Colo., and Genevee Albury of Texas; numerous great-nephews and nieces and numerous great-great-nephews and nieces.

Graveside services for Vera will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at the Wichita Park Cemetery, 2500 N. Hillside, Wichita. The Rev. Kendale Finley, of the First Christian Church, will officiate.

Friends may call at the Day Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27.

Memorials have been established in her name and loving memory with Wellington Place, 114 W. South Street, Wellington, Kan. 67152, or Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 3267, Wichita, Kan. 67201-3267 or Wheat Capitol Manor, 400 S. C, Wellington, Kan. 67152.

Arrangements are by Day Funeral Home, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington.

Orie White Cleous

Orie White Cleous, 82, Wellington, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center - St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Kan.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Pastor Marvin Ewertt officiated and the Rev. Quentin Bennett assisted.

Special musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden." Skeet Sirmons was vocalist.

The congregation sang "Hymn Of Praise." Cleta Winkleman, organist, played "Red River Valley."

Honorary casketbearers were Ralph Tracy, Cody Winkleman, Aaron Keller, Willis Olinger, David Keller and Jimmy Ryker.

Private family inurnment was held at the Argonia Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Odd Fellows Eye Bank of Kansas University, the Argonia and Western Sumner County Historical Society, the Sumner County Historical Society and the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Orie was born on June 28, 1917, near Danville, Kan., the son of Odell Jackson and Edna Laura White Cleous. He attended the rural Lone Star Country School and helped on the family farm, which his grandparents had homesteaded in 1876.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 29, 1941, becoming an Army medic and later a medic with the Army-Air Corps in England, being discharged on Oct. 7, 1945.

He married Mary Eleanor Hanson on Sept. 5, 1947, at the Argonia Methodist Church. They continued to live on the home place, raising Milking Shorthorn Cattle, wheat and alfalfa.

They retired from farming and moved to Wellington from the Danville area in 1971, after which Orie worked in several machine shops in Wellington.

He joined the Odd Fellows Lodge in 1936 and was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Augusta. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, the Argonia and Western Sumner County Historical Society and the Sumner County Historical Society.

He had also been very active in the senior citizen program in Wellington. He was also a member of the Barb Wire and Brick Collectors in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, of Cedar View Good Samaritan Center, where she has lived since 1990; one son, Dan Cleous and his wife, Sharon, of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Teresa Keller of Topeka, Kan., and Cleta Winkleman and her husband, Charles, of Andover, Kan.; one sister, Opal Mott of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Chris Shaffner, Danny Cleous, David Keller, Aaron Keller, Emily Winkleman, Cody Winkleman and Heather Cleous; and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Gladys.

Arrangements were by Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington.

Roger L. Stallbaumer Sr.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Vigil services for Roger L. Stallbaumer Sr., who died Saturday, June 3, 2000, were held Monday, June 5. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Tuesday, June 6.

Both were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew J. Seiler officiated.

At the Rosary and Vigil services, the Spanish Choir, accompanied by Annette Linnebur, sang "Adio's" and "Reina Del Cielo." Special prerecorded music of "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Home" was sung by Roger L. Stallbaumer Sr.

At the Mass, special music was "How Great Thou Art," "Hail Mary Gentle Woman," "Here I Am Lord" and "Amazing Grace." Organist was Hankie Holefelder and song leader was Sharon Short.

Ushers were Gordon Robare, Jeff Davis, Jeff Deschaine, Marty Guthrie and J.P. Buellesfeld.

Casketbearers were Nate Cornejo, Frank Cornejo, Jesse Cornejo, Gina Cornejo, Misty Barnum, Michelle Waller, Mandy Simpson, Jason Chilson, Josh Chilson and Wes Warnock.

Interment was in Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home.

Anna May Bruce

Anna May Bruce, 74, of Blackwell, Okla., formerly of South Haven, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Riverside Hospital in Wichita. She was a homemaker.

She was born June 12, 1926 in Eldin, Mo., to arlee and Ollie (Blankenship) Bowles. She married John Bruce on Dec. 22, 1945, in Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Johnney.

Survivors include her husband, John Bruce; three sons, Marlon and Robbie, both of Wichita, and Mickey of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Paul Bowles of Raytown, Mo.; a sister, Ruth Nelson of Wichita; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at the South Haven United Methodist Church. The Rev. Greg Lindenberger will officiate.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 this evening.

Frank Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
