Nolan J. Ewy

PRATT - Nolan J. Ewy, 82, died Oct. 7, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born June 3, 1917, at Moundridge, the son of John and Caroline Kaufman Ewy.
A retired plumber, formerly with Stevens Plumbing and Heating at Hutchinson, he was also a welding instructor at Hutchinson Community College.
He belonged to Calvary Baptist Church, Pratt, and was a former member of Westside Baptist Church, Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
On Aug 16, 1936, he married Helen B. Day at Murdock. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gary, Rogers, Ark.; two daughters, Marilyn Nevius, Hutchinson, and Donna Jean Brown, Murdock; a brother, Clem, Kingman; a sister, Olive Albright, Albuquerque, N.M.; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Melvin and Arlo.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Westside Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tim Adrian and Scott Buller presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park Hutchinson.

Anna M. McNickle
Nov. 9, 1917 - Nov. 1, 1999
ASHLAND - Anna Marie McNickle, 81, died Nov. 1, 1999, at Ashland Health Center Long Term Care Unit, Ashland.
She was born Nov. 9, 1917, at Iuka, the daughter of E.V. and Nina Pohlman Taylor. An Ashland resident since 1946, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to the Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and Sunday School teacher, the 20th Century Club, PEO Club, the Ashland Art Association, Clark County Fair Board, Iroquon Medical Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ashland Library Board, the Ashland District Hospital Board, the 4th of July Parade Organization, the State Board of Medical Auxiliary and the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.
In June 1941, she married Jerry Hall McNickle at Iuka. He died Feb. 14, 1973.
Survivors include: four sons, Robert Stephen, Ashland, Dr. George Andrew, Wichita, James Paylor, New York City, N.Y., and Jon Hal, Phoenix, Ariz.; and 8 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Presbyterian Church, Ashland, with the Rev. John Mikow presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, both at Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ashland.

Michael W. Hudson
Jan. 31, 1954-Nov. 21, 1999
STAFFORD - Michael Wayne Hudson, 45, died Nov. 21, 1999, at his home in Lexington, Ky.
He was born Jan. 31, 1954, at Stafford, the son of Wilford Rhea and Evadene Overstreet Hudson. He attended Stafford schools and worked in construction with Borton Inc., Hutchinson.
On Aug. 18, 1978, he married Karen Reese at Hoisington. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Michael Jr., Muskogee, Okla., and Sam Salem, Pratt; a daughter, Eva Hudson, Muskogee, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Jessica Reese, Ireland; his mother, Stafford; and a brother, Ray D., Utica, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service and burial of the ashes will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Stafford Cemetery, with the Rev. Guy Elliott presiding.

Jesse Dakota Eslick
Alicia Eslick, Greensburg, announces the birth of a son, Jesse Dakota, on Feb. 15, 2000, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.
He weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz., and was 19 3/4 inches long.
Reno, 3, and Jayce, 16 months, welcome their brother home.
Grandparents are Linda Pippin, Greensburg, and David Eslick and Merlene Ankron.
Great-grandparents are Mabel Zeigler, Mullinville, and Lydia Eslick, Bucklin.
Gary D. Woodrow
GREAT BEND - Gary D. Woodrow, 59, died June 7, 2000, at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. A lifetime Great Bend area resident, he was a bookkeeper for Sunflower Training Center and was also employed at Thies Packing Co. for 22 years.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Great Bend Family Mortuary. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Survivors include: a daughter, Melissa J. Malcolm, Tempe, Ariz.; mother, Gladys Woodrow, Great Bend; a brother, Michael Woodrow, Great Bend; and a sister, Meleah Frazer, Great Bend, formerly of Pratt.

Martha R. Sorden
Martha R. Sorden, 83, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Friendship Manor, Pratt.
Vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Friendship Manor. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Jim Dieker presiding.
She was born Dec. 26, 1917, at Pratt, the daughter of George and Hattie Kinzel Richardson. A Pratt resident since 1987, coming from Yucca Valley, Calif., she was a retired cook and chef.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt, and Elks Emblem Club, Yucca Valley.
She married Loren Davis Coffman in 1931. He preceded her in death. She married William Sorden in 1948 in Phoenix, Ariz. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: son, Dewayne L. Coffman, Bend, Ore.; a sister, Dorothy Epp, Cunningham; three nephews, Paul Epp and Bob Epp, both of Pratt and Blaine Wells, Nordheim, Germany; four nieces, Betty Hoeme, Preston, Teresa Snyder, Pratt, Martha Sue Wells, Topeka, and Julane Wells, Topeka; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Paul Henry Richardson; a sister, Anna Wells; and a nephew, Leroy Wells.

R. Michael 'Tubie' Miller
R. Michael "Tubie" Miller, J.D., died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 8, of a heart attack. He was 57. Memorial services will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church at 67th and Mission Road at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. A reception will follow at Coaches at 103rd and Wornall. A celebration of Miller's life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, October 14, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Westin Crown Center Hotel. Dress for this event is casual.
Born Feb. 6, 1943, to Helen and Robert Miller in Wichita, Miller was a lifelong Kansas resident. His aptitude for excellence was displayed early when he graduated as the 1961 valedictorian of Pratt High School. In 1965, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in political science. Three years later, he graduated from the KU School of Law.
Miller devoted 32 years of professional service to the American Academy of Family Physicians, a national organization that today represents more than 90,000 family physicians, residents and medical students. He joined the AAFP on Oct. 1, 1968, as executive assistant - his first job after law school. In 1969, he was named director of the Department of Legislation. He became the AAFP's general counsel in 1972, and two years later he became director of the Socioeconomics Division as well. In 1980, he was promoted to the position of vice president of legislation and socioeconomics. From 1984 to 1985, he served as acting executive vice president for the Academy. On May 1, 1992, he was appointed to the position he held until his death - the AAFP's first deputy executive vice president, assisting in the supervision of all Academy activities and serving as acting EVP in the absence of the EVP.
Miller served the Academy with dedication, creativity and zeal. He was honored with numerous AAFP awards, including Honorary Membership, the Academy's highest honor, in 1998 and the President's Award and Award of Merit, both in 1985. When Honorary Membership was bestowed on him, he was said to have "added to the lore and the laughter and the legend of the Academy in untold and profound ways." He will be remembered for his wisdom, humor, and devotion and commitment to the Academy.
An avid sports fan and a true crimson and blue Jayhawk, Miller was a life member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and an annual contributor to the KU Endowment Association's Williams Educational Fund. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and served as "Grand Knux" of the Theta Nu Epsilon society.
Miller was preceded in death by his father Robert. Survivors include one daughter, Kim Grasberger and her husband, Eric of Portland, Ore.; mother, Helen Miller of Pratt; two grandchildren, Emily and Jack Grasberger and long time companion Alice George of Kansas City, Mo.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Mike "Tubie" Miller Scholarship Fund c/o the Williams Educational Fund at the University of Kansas, 210 Wagnon, Lawrence, KS 66045.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Anthuis, Bernie Bialek, Lloyd Doolittle, Bobby Douglas, Rich Jantz, Mike Jones, Bill Myers and Ken Whittington, M.D.
Jesus Zapien
TURON - Jesus Zapien, 4, died Feb. 13, 2001, at his home in Turon.
Rosary will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at Larrison Funeral Home, Turon. Funeral Mass will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Jose and Teresa Enriquez Zapien.
Memorials may be sent to the Jesus memorial Fund in care of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Erma Barnes
GREENSBURG - Erma Barnes, 88, died April 12, 2001, at Medicalodge, Kinsley. A lifetime resident of Kiowa County, she was a homemaker.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bible Baptist Church, Greensburg. There will be no visitation. Interment will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.
Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth, Greensburg, and Richard, Watonga, Okla.; and four daughters, Betty Goins, Sand Springs, Okla., Velva Barnes, Greensburg, Daisy Smith, Fowler, and Rita Meyer, Tipton, Mo.
Memorials may be sent to South Wind Hospice or to the Kiowa County Library, both in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
Winifred S. Tuttle
GREENSBURG - Winifred S. "Winnie" Tuttle, 78, died June 4, 2001, at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Lawrence Lambert Jr. officiating. His body has been donated to Kansas University Medical Center.
He was born July 18, 1922, at Sawyer, the son of Charles Edward and Mable Gertrude Miles Tuttle.
He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation radioman.
He farmed north of Haviland, and had made his home in Greensburg since 1975. He was a graduate of Haviland High School and attended Pratt Community College.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #103 and Kiowa Masonic Lodge #293, all of Greensburg, and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Midian Shrine Temple, both of Wichita.
On May 26, 1946, he married Dorothy Freeman Robinson in Haviland. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Charles F. and wife Jennifer, Lawrence, and their children, Erin Tuttle and Jana Tuttle; a daughter, Brenda and her husband Jim Broadhead, Wichita, and their children, Brigitte Broadhead Baggs, Eric Broadhead, Teresa Broadhead and Kenneth Broadhead; a brother, Norman Tuttle, Haviland; two sisters, Doris Muntz, Greensburg, and Florance Davis, Weatherford, Okla.; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Landon Broadhead.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Harold, and a sister, Anna Lee Young.
Memorials may go to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, Barclay College Scholarship Fund, or South Wind Hospice, all in care of Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.
Walter Hall Jr.
WICHITA - Walter Hall Jr., 74, died July 25, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. A resident of Wichita since 1952, previously of Kingman, he was a retired sheet-metal mechanic for Boeing Aircraft.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hoosier Cemetery, Kingman.
Survivors include: wife, Peggy; four sons, Dennis, Arkansas City, Alan and Douglas, both of Wichita, and Donald, Topeka; a brother, Willis Hall, Kingman; and three sisters, Ina Phinney, Pratt, Marie Nitcher, Grand Junction, Colo., and Lois Little, Wichita.
Memorials may be made to the Kingman Library or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
Barbara Joan Hudson
HUTCHINSON - Barbara Joan Hudson, 68, died Nov. 1, 2001, at her home in Hutchinson. She was a resident of Pratt for 27 years, where she worked as a boating supervisor at Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks from 1978 to 1997.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with the family present between 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Cremation will take place after the service and burial will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include: husband, Donald Eugene; and a daughter, Ronda Hicks, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County or Services for Children with Special Healthcare Needs, both in care of the mortuary.
