Jamie Vasquez Pobuda

Jamie Vasquez Pobuda, 28, Fontana, a former Paola resident, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in her home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1975, in Paola, the daughter of James and Janice Kittrell Vasquez. She attended Paola High School and was a member of the 1993 class.
She married Michael Pobuda in 1993 in Beagle. They later divorced.
She worked for a short time as a data processor for the PDA Software Co. in Lenexa.
Her hobbies were reading books and spending time with her son and family. As a youth, she was very active in sports.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Manuel and Sally Vasquez and Charley Kittrell.
Surviving are her son, Michael James Pobuda of Hillsdale; her mother and stepfather, Janice and Brian Cornett of Fontana; her father, James Vasquez, and her stepmother, Wendy Vasquez, both of Paola; three sisters, Mindy Vasquez of Overland Park, Niki Haley of Olathe and Kerby Cornett of Fontana; a half sister, Cadi Cornett of Fontana; two brothers, Lake Vasquez and Aaron Vasquez, both of Paola; and her grandmother, Helen Kittrell McBride of Louisburg.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Ethel Adeline Carr
(Dec. 25, 1912 - March 31, 2003)
Ethel Adeline Carr, 90, of Richmond, died Monday, March 31, 2003, in Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.
She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Anderson County, a daughter of Irl and Winfred Clark Smethers. She and John Carr were married Oct. 6, 1934, in Selma, Kan.
Mrs. Carr was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Bush City Baptist Church and Greenfield Home Demonstration Unit.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Kelsey; two brothers, Irl Smethers and Harold Smethers; and a sister, Emma Belangy.
She is survived by her husband, John Carr, a resident of Cherryvale Care Center in Cherryvale, Kan.; two sons, Elwyn Carr of Cherryvale and J.D. Carr of Garnett; two daughters, Charlotte Roberts of Greeley and Cheryl Crump of Hermantown, Minn.; a brother, Robert Lloyd of Louisburg; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carr is in state at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett, with visitation scheduled from 7 to 8 tonight (Wednesday) in the funeral home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Kincaid Cemetery
in Kincaid, Kan.
G.K. Smith
G.K. Smith of Paola died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Paola businessman was 90. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Trinity Church in Paola, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. The Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the church, followed by visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Wilson and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the service.

Raymond Maurice Davis
MARCH 12, 1926 - JULY 11, 2004
Raymond Maurice Davis, 78, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in his home in Garnett.
He was born March 12, 1926, in Homewood, Kan., the son of Arthur Blaine and Edith May Davis. He grew up in the Williamsburg area and moved to Garnett after completing his education.
During his early years, he was a dairy farmer. He then lived in Topeka for about 30 years before moving to Cassville, Mo., where he lived for 15 years before returning to Garnett in 2001.
He and Elsie McDougal were married Feb. 14, 1986, in Rogers, Ark.
Mr. Davis enjoyed fishing, eating fish and ice cream and going to shows in Branson, Mo.
Those preceding him in death were a son, Gary Maurice Davis, who died in 1988; a brother, John R. Davis; and two sisters, Mable Brown and Margaret Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Davis of the home; a son, Jim Davis of Topeka; a stepson, Dennis Williams of Topeka; three daughters, Mary Lee Hales, Barbara Davis and Karen Braden, all of Topeka; a stepdaughter, Linda Printy of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Stella Christey of Topeka; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services were today in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery
in Topeka.

Sister Mary Josephine Gellhaus OSU
FEB. 4, 1911 - JULY 6, 2004
Sister Mary Josephine Gellhaus OSU, 93, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in the Ursuline Motherhouse in Paola.
She was born Lucy Josephine Gellhaus on Feb. 4, 1911, in Greeley, the daughter of Frank and Josephine Beckmann Gellhaus.
She was received into the community of Ursuline Sisters as Sister Mary Josephine on June 10, 1931, and made her final profession of vows on Aug. 18, 1935.
She received a bachelor of arts degree in home economics from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan., and did advanced studies at Kansas State University.
Sister Josephine taught in Catholic schools in Kansas and Oklahoma for 39 years. She taught in the former St. Patrick's School in Paola from 1935 to 1938; St. Philip's in Osawatomie from 1938 to 1940; Holy Name in Kansas City, Kan., 1940-1943; Ursuline Academy, 1943-1944; Immaculate Conception in Tulsa, Okla., 1944-1946; St. John's in Bartlesville, Okla, 1946-1949 and 1957-1958; Holy Angels in Garnett, 1949-1951; Queen of the Holy Rosary in Overland Park, 1951-1957; Queen of the Holy Rosary in Wea, 1958-1963; St. Agnes in Roeland Park, 1963-1968; and Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, 1968-1975.
For the past 29 years, she had devoted herself to community service at the Ursuline Convent in Paola.
Sister Josephine was loyal and steadfast in her faith and in her commitment to the church, to her religious community and to her family.
She was an avid seamstress, gardener and loved animals and canaries.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Theodore, Bernard and Leo, and a sister, Cecilia.
Survivors include a sister, Rose Lickteig of Seward, Neb., and a brother, Joseph Gellhaus of Greeley. Also surviving are her Ursuline Sisters.
The wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ursuline Chapel, 901 E. Miami St. in Paola. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the main chapel. Burial will be in Ursuline Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson and Son Funeral Home of Paola.

Virginia Finch
MARCH 22, 1952 - JULY 9, 2004
Virginia Finch, 52, lifelong Rantoul resident, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at her home.
She was born March 22, 1952, in Ottawa, the daughter of Harold and Helen I. Dragieff Kirkland. She graduated in 1971 from Central Heights High School.
She married Michael Finch on April 30, 1976, in Ottawa.
Mrs. Finch was a homemaker and housewife. She also worked at Ottawa Truck, Commodore Homes, Dodson Aviation and Planter Industries, all in Ottawa.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Vickie Schaffer; and three brothers, Steven Kirkland, Tony Kirkland and Bill Kirkland.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Finch of the home; three sons, Mel Parrett of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Jeffery Finch and Joshua Finch, both of the home; two brothers, Robert Kirkland of Rantoul and Johnnie Kirkland of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight sisters, Wilda Morrow and Donna White, both of Pierce City, Mo., Helen Schneider of Pomona, Debbie Rogers of Little River, Kan., Jo Ann Thomas and Sally Hurt, both of Osawatomie, Dottie Jackson of Rantoul and Cindy Schmidt of Paola; and a grandson.
Services were Tuesday in Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial was in Ruhamah Cemetery
near Rantoul.
Eleanor L. Huggins
APRIL 1, 1919 - JUNE 27, 2004
Eleanor L. Huggins, 85, Paola, died Sunday, June 27, 2004.
She was born April 1, 1919, near Osage City, Kan.
She lived in Olathe until she moved in 1996 to North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.
Her hobbies were fishing, crossword puzzles and cooking.
Her husband, Roger C. Huggins Sr., preceded her in death.
Surviving are her two daughters, Patty Dehn of Ottawa and Sharon Linder of Paola; four sons, Jim Huggins of Wellsville, Richard Huggins and Roy Huggins, both of Olathe, and Roger Huggins Jr. of Edgerton; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were July 1 in McGilley & Frye Funeral Home in Olathe.
Norman E. Loper
SEPT. 17, 1935 - JULY 7, 2004
Norman E. Loper, 68, Greeley, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Olathe Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Irving, Kan., the son of Lewis and Irene A. Ingerly Loper. He received his education in Richmond Grade School.
Mr. Loper was an over-the-road truck driver and farmed with his parents. He also worked at North Shore Marina at Pomona Lake for eight years.
He had been a member of the National Guard at Garnett.
Survivors include his mother of Greeley.
Services were Saturday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett. Burial was in Richmond Cemetery.
