Olga A.Ivan
June 27, 1915 - Dec. 26, 2005
Olga A. Ivan, 90, Paola, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, of natural causes after a short hospital stay at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
She was born June 27, 1915, on a farm near Lincoln, Kan., the daughter of Carl and Christine Major. She attended high school in Culver, Kan., before graduating from Salina High School.
She was proud that she placed her high school education in priority over an invitation to join the Ringling Brothers Circus as an acrobat. She worked for her board to finish high school.
She and Wilmer Ivan were married Aug. 21, 1938, in Salina. After living 35 years in Salina, where she worked in the grocery business, she and her family moved in 1957 to Russell, Kan. She continued her work as a grocery checker while her husband joined the Russell Police Department. The couple moved in 1960 to Mission, where she retired from the old A&P Grocery Store in 1982.
Upon her husband's retirement in 1984 from the Mission Police Department, they moved to Paola, where they enjoyed retirement and traveling to Branson, Mo. They had been married for 49 years when her husband died in 1987.
Mrs. Ivan was known as a kind, friendly, generous and unselfish wife, mother and grandmother.
Others preceding her in death were two sisters, Theresa Duewell and Alma Lederer.
Survivors include two sons, John Ivan of Mission and Dennis Ivan of rural Osawatomie; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Friday in the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee and burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.
Edith Maxine Johns
Jan. 15, 1923 - Dec. 30, 2005
Edith Maxine Johns, 82, Osawatomie, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in her home.
The second of the eight children of Emery Harlan and Anna Margaret Brandt Bigham, she was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Fontana. She was a 1941 graduate of Paola High School.
She and Derwood Franklin Johns were married Sept. 8, 1947, in Ottawa, Ill. They made their home in West Bend, Wis., before moving to Paola. They had lived in Osawatomie since 1956. They became the parents of four children.
Mrs. Johns worked at Osawatomie State Hospital from 1964 to 1987. She began as a psychiatric aide and became a licensed mental health technician in 1978.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Osawatomie and also served as a volunteer in the Foster Grandparent Program.
Those preceding her in death included her husband; a daughter, Jane Ann Burgoon; two sisters, Evelyn Brewer and Erma Boling, and one grandson, Sean Burgoon.
Survivors include her two sons, Jack Johns of Osawatomie and Jim Johns of Lane; her daughter, Jeanne Biehler of Louisburg; three sisters, Pauline Marcum of Osawatomie, Virginia Dougan of Fontana and Betty Pearce of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Vernon Jim Bigham of Mankato, Minn., and David Bigham of Independence, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in the church, followed by burial in Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.
Memorials may be made to the church in care of the funeral home.
Bernard Edward Ford
May 23, 1920 - March 15, 2006
Bernard Edward Ford, 85, Linn Valley, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
He was born May 23, 1920, in Lamar, Texas, the son of George and Mary Schlusher Ford. He and Viola Vaughn were married Feb. 28, 1952, in Little Rock, Ark.
Mr. Ford worked as a mattress maker in the bedding industry after serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a charter member of the Linn Valley Community Church.
Those preceding him in death were his wife, who died Dec. 11, 2000; a brother, Curtis Ford; and two sisters, Edith Bush and Eva Burnett.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, J.W. Vaughn; lifelong friends, Ben and Audrey Roebuck; eight nephews; and one niece.
Services were Saturday in the church, followed by burial in Woodland Cemetery
in Mound City. Arrangements were under the direction of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in La Cygne.
Memorials may be made to the church's music department.
Marjorie Jean Foxgruber
July 11, 1919 - Feb. 17, 2006
Marjorie Jean Foxgruber, 86, a native of Centerville, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, in her home in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born July 11, 1919 near Centerville, the daughter of Delmer C. and Nellie R. Hibbs McGee. She attended Centerville Grade School and graduated in 1937 from Parker Rural High School. She worked at Waits Cafe in Centerville before moving to Washington, D.C. during World War II where she worked for the Civil Service at the Pentagon. She retired from the Civil Service in the late 1970s.
She married Rudy Foxgruber on Nov. 27, 1981, and moved to Grand Junction, Colo. Several years later they relocated to Las Vegas.
Those preceding her in death were her husband, who died April 3, 2003; four sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include her brother, Kenneth D. McGee of Centerville.
Inurnment services were in the Centerville Cemetery.
Ethel Lee Fultz
Feb. 6, 1911 - March 19, 2006
Ethel Lee Fultz, 95, Pleasanton, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, in Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott.
She was born Feb. 6, 1911, in Bates County, Mo., the daughter of Carl and Nellie Bishop Graham. She was a graduate of Pleasanton High School.
On Feb. 14, 1934, she and Willis Fultz were married in Pleasanton. He died April 30, 1981.
Mrs. Fultz was a bookkeeper for the Texaco Station she and her husband owned.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton.
Others preceding her in death were three sisters, Belva Mikes, Nettie Springer and an infant sister.
Survivors include a son, Donnie Fultz of Mound City; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pleasanton Cemetery.

Julian H. Massoth
Aug. 16, 1929 - March 16, 2006
Julian H. Massoth, 76, Paola, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, northeast of Paola on Kansas Highway 68 in a vehicle accident.
He was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Piqua, Kan., the son of Frank and Elizabeth Weber Massoth. He graduated in 1948 from Yates Center High School.
After working several years for the Frisco Railroad, now known as Burlington Northern Railroad, he attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City. He later attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1961.
He operated a tax accounting office in Humboldt, Kan., for two years. In 1963, he opened an office in Iola, which he operated for 33 years. He moved to Paola in 2004.
He married Fredricka C. Vogt on July 1, 1967, in Piqua. She died in June 1981.
Others preceding him in death were six brothers.
Survivors include two brothers, Martin Massoth of Springfield, Mo., and Al Massoth of Paola.
A rosary will be said at 10 a.m. today at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Marie Reynolds
Oct. 19, 1919 - March 10, 2006
Marie Reynolds, 86, Paola, died Friday, March 10, 2006 in North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.
She was born Oct. 9, 1919 in Pittsburg, Kan., the youngest of six children. She attended Pittsburg State College for three years, majoring in business. Following college she spent some time in San Francisco, Calif. She then moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she lived with her oldest sister, Rose.
While living in Kansas City, she met Oliver Pete Reynolds. They were married in June 1948 in Quincy, Ill., where he worked on the railroad. Shortly after their marriage, he took a job at the General Motors Corp. in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Reynolds worked at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. They bought their home in Roeland Park about 1951. She became a full-time homemaker after they adopted two daughters, Jeri in 1964, and Jeanette, in 1970. As they grew up she served as room mother and Campfire Girl leader.
She enjoyed vacationing in Aurba, Hawaii and other places.
Mrs. Reynolds and her husband lived in the family home and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before her husband's death Oct. 31, 1999. She moved to Hillsdale to live with her daughter, Jeri. In December of that year she moved to Country Club Estates in Paola, where she lived until October 2000 when she had a stroke. She lived in Life Care in Osawatomie for about a year before moving to North Point to be closer to her family.
Her five siblings were among those preceding her in death.
Surviving are her two daughters, Jeri Raub of Hillsdale and Jeanette Key of Kincaid, Kan.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were March 15 in Charter Funerals/Kansas Chapel in Merriam. Burial was in Johnson Count Memorial Gardens.
