Susie L. Ludwig

Susie L. Ludwig, 76, longtime Paola resident, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Beverly Health Care in Spring Hill.
She was born July 27, 1927, in Garnett, the daughter of Lewellon and Josie Fern Camp Watkins. She grew up in the Rantoul area and graduated in 1945 from Rantoul High School.
She and Wayne Ludwig were married Dec. 16, 1946, in Paola. They became the parents of four children.
Mrs. Ludwig worked as a seamstress for several years before being employed at the former Miami County Hospital, where she worked for 17 years as a dietary assistant before retiring.
She was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Perfection Chapter No. 21 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Paola, Ottawa White Shrine and Louisburg Shrine. She was a member of the former Walnut Creek Grange, former Young Matrons Club and former Eden Chapel Ladies Aid. She had served as a 4-H leader in the former Scotts Valley 4-H Club.
Mrs. Ludwig enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Roletta Ludwig, who died in 1975; a brother; and two sisters.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Wayne Ludwig of the home; a son, Douglas Ludwig of Paola; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Ludwig of Paola and Debra Stottlemire of Princeton; two sisters, Mary Jo Hermesmeyer of Osawatomie and Nellie Blackstone of Princeton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Scotts Valley Cemetery
near Paola.

Elizabeth B. Stallbaumer, 98, Seneca, Kan., the mother of Michael Stallbaumer and Janice Jenkins, both of Paola, and Benedict Stallbaumer of Holton, Kan., a former Paola resident, died July 29, 2004.

Vivian Town Skeens Rockwood, 81, a Miami County native, died July 31, 2004 in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Vollena Skeens of Paola.
Kenneth Frederick Roloson
Kenneth Frederick Roloson, 87, Englewood, Fla., the father of Virginia Randall and grandfather of Bill Randall and Tony Randall, all of Paola, died July 26, 2004.
Vernon Dean Kirk
FEB. 12, 1932-OCT. 16, 2004
Vernon Dean Kirk, 72, Olathe, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his home.
He was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Urbana, Mo., the son of Roma E. and Lucy Anderson Kirk.
He retired form Local 663 of the Laborers Union in 1988. After retiring he began farming until his health failed.
Mr. Kirk was a member of the Stilwell Baptist Church.
Those preceding him in death were his first wife, Shirley Kirk; a son, James Dean Kirk; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Kirk of the home; his children, Jeff Seager of Hawaii, Richard Kirk of Osawatomie, Dan Kirk of Olathe, Mary Beth Wallace of Drexel, Mo., Joni Banks of Topeka, and Jerri Owens of Stilwell; two sisters, Ruby Barker and Millie King, both of Stilwell; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were today in Runyan Funeral Home in Louisburg. Burial was in Aubry Cemetery
in Stilwell.

LaVerne Lee Lynn
JUNE 13, 1936-OCT. 16, 2004
LaVerne Lee Lynn, 68, Osawatomie, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Olathe Medical Center.
He was born June 13, 1936, in Hoisington, Kan., the second of the four children of Lawrence Lee and Clara Mae Cooper Lynn. He attended Osawatomie schools, graduating in 1955 from Osawatomie High School.
He married Carol Sue DeMoss on Aug. 28, 1964, In Prescott, Kan. They lived in Osawatomie and became the parents of two daughters.
Mr. Lynn worked in the laundry at Osawatomie State Hospital. He then got into the grocery business, first at IGA, then Ralph's Food Center and then 15 years with Safeway as produce manager. Due to a disability, he retired June 28, 1984.
He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Those preceding him in death include a brother, Leonard Lynn, and two sisters, Marlene Lynn and Janet Landers.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Lynn of the home; two daughters, Angie Stites of Spring Hill and Cindy Wheatley of Osawatomie; and three grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Phyllis L. Masingill
AUG. 13, 1955-OCT. 12, 2004
Phyllis L. Masingill, 49, Garnett, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004.
She was born Aug. 13, 1955, in Chickasha, Okla., the daughter of Ivie and Odessa Flemming Jackson. She grew up in Oklahoma, living in Shawnee and Maud before moving to Garnett in 1998.
She and Jim Masingill were married Feb. 18, 1972, in Shawnee.
Mrs. Masingill was a certified medicine aide at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Masingill of Garnett; a son, Steven Masingill of Garnett; a daughter, Lisa Pope of Garnett; and two sisters, Debbie Jones of Meeker, Okla., and Susan McClain of Oklahoma City.
Memorial services were Friday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett.
Memorials may be made to a fund in her name.
Harold Winton Mathews

Harold Winton Mathews, 77, Fulton, Kan., a native of Mound City, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, in his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Mound City, the son of William C. and Delilah E. Whitson Mathews. He was a graduate of Mound City High School.
After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II.
He and Madeline Baker were married June 23, 1951, in Raton, N.M.
Mr. Mathews was employed as a rural mail carrier and also did painting and wall papering.
His memberships included the Community Christian Church of Fort Scott; American Legion of Mound City; Rural Letter Carriers Association; Masonic Lodge of Denver, Colo.; Fort Scott Consistory; and Mirza Temple of Pittsburg.
Those preceding him in death included a son, Rickie Steven Mathews, and a brother, Joseph Mathews.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Mathews of the home; two daughters, Jackie Breuel of Mound City and Vickie Mathews of Topeka; four brothers, Allen Mathews of Picher, Okla., Thurman Mathews of Marion, Ohio, Richard Mathews of Lake Pomme de Terre, Mo., and Neal Mathews of Pleasanton; three sisters, Virginia Wilson of Pittsburg, Flossie Amick of Independence, Mo., and Esther Stanbrough of Mound City; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday in the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.
