Russell Allen Clay
(May 28, 1975 - April 14, 2002)
Russell Allen Clay, 26, Blue Mound, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in a three-vehicle accident near Deerfield, Mo.
Mr. Clay's sister, Julie Newcome, and her infant son, Dalton Eugene Newcome Bybee, of Pleasanton; the baby's father, Timothy Bybee, of Nevada, Mo.; and Austin Lukenbill, 5, of Nevada, also died in the accident. All five were in the same vehicle. Five others were seriously injured.
Mr. Clay was born May 28, 1975, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Don and Kathy Newcome. He was employed as a sheet rock installer.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Denna Vick; and his grandmother, Faye Newcome, all of Blue Mound.
Services were Wednesday in the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial was in Richland Cemetery
near Mound City.
Memorials may be made to a fund for funeral expenses.
Kathryn A. Ulses
(Oct. 20, 1912 - April 12, 2002)
Kathryn A. Ulses, 89, Westphalia, died Friday, April 12, 2002, in Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.
She was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Colony, Kan., a daughter of Kilian and Frances Fritz Ulses. After graduating from Colony High School in 1932, she was employed in Wichita for several years.
After the unexpected death of her sister, Sue Nolan, in December 1944, she moved to Westphalia to assist in the rearing of her sister's seven young children. She later cared for her mother and her brother.
She continued to live in Westphalia until entering Golden Heights in October 2000.
She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the St. Teresa Altar Society, both of Westphalia.
Others preceding her in death were three brothers.
Survivors include a sister, Pauline Ulses of Westphalia, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Tuesday in the church. One of the officiants was the Rev. Gene Ulses of Humboldt, Iowa, a nephew. Burial was in St. Teresa Cemetery
in Westphalia. Arrangements were under the direction of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett.
Agnes Ruskin Barnhill
(April 15, 1912 - April 12, 2002)
Agnes Ruskin Barnhill, 89, Lawrence, a former Osawatomie resident, died Friday, April 12, 2002, in her home.
She was born April 15, 1912, in White Lake, S.D., the daughter of the Rev. Edward Vance Ruskin and Leona Knapp Ruskin. She attended grade school in both Leavenworth and Osawatomie and was a 1929 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Kansas in 1941 and was elected to Delta Phi Delta in 1939.
Mrs. Barnhill was assistant registrar at the University of Kansas and worked in the registrar's office from 1944 until retiring in 1977.
She and Ellis Bernal Barnhill were married July 10, 1938, in Paola. He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1989.
Mrs. Barnhill was an active member of the Lawrence Color Camera Club from 1954 until it disbanded in 1989. She served as secretary for many years, then as vice president and president. She was a member of the Photographic Society of America and the North Central Camera Club Council. She was a member of the Lawrence Unitarian Fellowship.
Her hobbies included painting, woodworking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, playing the violin and record keeping. She had illustrated several children's books.
Others preceding her in death included a daughter, May Ruth Barnhill, who died in 1953.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ann Brien of Topeka; her son, Robert E. Barnhill of Lawrence; a brother, Robert E. Ruskin of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Wednesday in Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Lawrence.

Dennis Michael Young
(Nov. 17, 1963 - April 11, 2002)
Dennis Michael Young, 38, Overland Park, died Thursday, April 11, 2002.
He was born Nov. 17, 1963, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of William Bruce and Mabel Frances Titus Young.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include a daughter, BriOnna McGinnis of Overland Park; his father of La Cygne; his mother, Mabel Frances Powell of Overland Park; a brother, David Young of Overland Park; two half brothers, Donald Young of Leavenworth and Jeff Powell of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepbrother, Greg Powell of Raymore, Mo.; three half sisters, Melissa Marmon of North Kansas City, Mo., Renae Rascon of Platte City, Mo., and Dena Powell of Overland Park; and two stepsisters, Lynne Finch of North Kansas City, Mo., and Lisa Powell of Kansas City, Mo.
Services were Monday in Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home in La Cygne. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery
in La Cygne.
William T. Ingle
(May 10, 1920 - April 15, 2002)
William T. Ingle, 81, Wellington, Kan., native and longtime resident of Howard, Kan., died Monday, April 15, 2002, in Via Christi-St. Joseph in Wichita.
The son of Jesse and Martha Ellen Ingle, he was born May 10, 1920, in Howard. Known as "Ted," he had lived in Howard until moving to Wichita in 1985.
He and Gladys Waller were married Nov. 7, 1942, in Howard.
In his young adult years, he worked as a carpenter. Later he worked in the street department and as a police officer in Howard. He had also worked as an officer in the sheriff's department.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Peace Officers Association.
Mr. Ingle was baptized in the Baptist church in Howard and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.
Those preceding him in death included six brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Ingle of Wellington; his daughter, Karen Gerberding of Mayfield, Kan.; his son, Carl Ingle of Osawatomie; a sister, Emily Beggs of Attleboro, Mass.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Frank Funeral Home in Wellington. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery
in Mayfield.
Memorials may be made to the church in care of the funeral home, 417 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152.
Harry Douglas Clark
(Nov. 9, 1927 - April 8, 2002)
Harry Douglas Clark, 74, Osawatomie, died Monday, April 8, 2002, in Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Osawatomie, the only child of Harry Ross and Florence Ruth Mulholland Clark. He grew up in Osawatomie, attended local schools and was a 1944 graduate of Osawatomie High School.
On Dec. 1, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy in Kansas City, Mo. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he entered the U.S. Army. During his military career of 24 years, he served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a master sergeant. He retired from the military in 1968.
After his retirement from the military, he worked for the next 20 years as a parts manager and assistant general manager for auto and farm implement dealers in Honduras.
He and Dora Amanda Fernandez were married April 19, 1962, in Whistler, Ala. They became the parents of five children and made their home in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Mr. Clark returned to the United States to care for his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Amanda Clark, of Tegucigalpa; his children, Harvey Ross Clark and Mary Ruth Clark, both of Tegucigalpa, Brant Clark and Brent Clark, who are both serving with the U.S. Air Force, and Harry Douglas Clark Jr. of Osawatomie; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.
Mazie M. Clark
(April 5, 1917 - June 8, 2002)
Mazie M. Clark, 85, La Cygne, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Miami County Medical Center in Paola.
She was born April 5, 1917, in St. James, Ark., the daughter of William M. and Elizabeth Frances Younger Pilgram. She and Acy Clinton Clark were married Aug. 9, 1935, in Tuckerman, Ark.
Mrs. Clark had lived in La Cygne since 1977. She worked as a certified nurse's aide and retired from Swan Manor in La Cygne in 1980.
She was a member of the Tuckerman Christian Church in Tuckerman, Ark.
Those preceding her in death were her husband, Acy Clinton Clark, who died May 15, 1964; two daughters, Myrtle M. Woods, who died in September 1998, and Iva M. Bradley, who died Feb. 13, 2001; a stepson, Burnice Clark; a brother; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Billy DeWayne Clark and Rita Mae Parnell.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Clark and Jerry Clark, both of La Cygne; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Monday in Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, both in La Cygne.
