William Francis Egidy
Jan. 11, 1924 - MARCH 14, 2006
William Francis Egidy, 82, Kansas City, Kan., a native of Greeley, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in his home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1924, near Greeley where he lived and farmed most of his life. His parents were William J. and Mary Agnes Bauch Egidy. Later, he operated several tire service stations in Ottawa before fully retiring. He loved farming, his family, searching for bargains at the sale barn, dancing, gardening, listening to radio talk shows, watching "Price Is Right," bowling and playing bingo.
He and Constance Lucas Egidy were married Nov. 25, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan.
Those preceding him in death included a sister.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Egidy of Osawatomie, Robert Egidy of Kansas City, Kan., and Thomas Egidy; four daughters, Mary Lu Muntzel of Belton, Mo., Michele Guerrero of Topeka and Patricia Egidy and Katie Egidy, both of Kansas City, Kan.; his twin brother, John Egidy of Parker; a sister, Ida Funk of Parker; and 12 grandchildren.
Services were Saturday in St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Virgil Lavern England
Dec. 6, 1925 - MARCH 9, 2006
Virgil Lavern England, 80, McPherson, Kan., a native of Fontana, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, in Memorial Hospital in McPherson.
He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Fontana, the son of Virgil O. and Florence W. Graham England. He was a graduate of Parker Rural High School.
Mr. England was a veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman first class with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kenton.
Before his retirement, he was a purchasing agent for Cessna in Wichita.
He and Betty D. Evinger were married Dec. 3, 1943, in Osawatomie.
On July 26, 1952, he and Marjorie L. Elliott were married in Bentonville, Ark.
Those preceding him in death included his two daughters, Sharon Lynn and Carolyn Swernke, and a granddaughter, Lori Lynn.
Survivors include his wife of McPherson; a sister, Madge Keitel of Fontana; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday in Grace Bible Church in McPherson. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery
in Wichita. Pallbearers were Nathan Swernke, Brian Phipps, Bill McClintock, Mike Phipps, David Keitel and Gary Keitel.

Carl L. Fennewald
July 2, 1925 - MARCH 13, 2006
Carl L. Fennewald, 80, longtime Paola resident, died Monday, March 13, 2006, in North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.
He was born July 2, 1925, in Martinsburg, Mo., the son of M.A. and Elizabeth Ann Tillman Fennewald. He grew up on a farm near Mexico, Mo., and graduated from St. Brendan High School in Mexico.
Shortly after graduating, he moved to California and worked in the ship yards as a welder before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Japan before being discharged in 1946.
After his discharge, he returned to Mexico and married Alberta Nichols on April 3, 1948. After their marriage, they lived in Mexico. They became the parents of five children.
Mr. Fennewald was employed by Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. and, because of his employment, the family was transferred to Zionsville, Ind., for eight years and Waterville, Ohio, before making their home in Paola in 1965. He worked for the company for 36 years before retiring in 1984 as a field supervisor.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola. He was a past commander of the Sheldon Banta Post No. 3712 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Miami Post No. 256 of the American Legion, both of Paola.
His interests included hunting, fishing, gardening and hunting mushrooms and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Cynthia Fennewald, who died in 1980; two brothers, Julius Fennewald and Jerome Fennewald; and four sisters, Christine Lanham, Pauline Stakeman, Virginia Dashney and Rosalie Hocke.
Surviving are his wife, Alberta Fennewald of the home; a daughter, Barbara Payne of Olathe; three sons, Alan Fennewald of Baldwin City, Rex Fennewald of Vancouver, Wash., and Max Fennewald of Blue Springs, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral Mass was Thursday in the church and burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery
near Paola.

Leonard W. Crouch
Aug. 3, 1925 - May 19, 2006
Leonard W. Crouch, 80, Garnett, a native of Hillsdale, died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Anderson County Long Term Care in Garnett.
Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Hills-dale, he was the son of Oliver William and Lucy Jane Crouch.
Mr. Crouch worked as a mechanic for Anderson Motors in Garnett for many years. In his younger days, he worked for a carnival.
He and Hazel Stevens were married in 1954 in Garnett. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Davis and Linda Soules, both of Garnett, and Shirley Crouch of Parsons, Kan.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Garnett Cemetery.

Vera Funderburgh
May 31, 1905 - May 19, 2006
Vera Funderburgh, 100, Garnett, died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Guest Home Estates in Garnett.
She was born May 31, 1905, in Anderson County, Kan., the daughter of Sam and Bettie Beahm Heck.
On Nov. 30, 1933, she and Frank Funderburgh were married in Westphalia. She was a homemaker in her own home.
Those preceding her in death were her husband, who died in January 1990, and two sisters, Ruth Lybarger and Mary Alberta Kellerman.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services were Tuesday in the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, followed by burial in Bethel Cemetery, both in Westphalia.

Richard Clifford Kaiser
Aug. 14. 1918 - May 22, 2006
Richard Clifford Kaiser, 87, a former longtime Paola resident and retired businessman, died unexpectedly Monday, May 22, 2006, in his home in Lawrence.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of William Henry and Clara Lee Ford Kaiser. The family moved to Paola in 1926 and lived in the Pressonville community west of Paola before moving into Paola.
He attended Paola schools and graduated in 1936 from Paola High School. He attended the University of Kansas.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
On Jan. 14, 1945, he married Mary Ruth McDade of Cedar Grove, N.C., in Paola. They made their home in Paola until moving to Lawrence in June 2004 to be near family members.
Mr. Kaiser's mother formed the Kaiser Furniture Co. business in 1936 on the west side of Paola's Park Square. He joined the business, together with his brother, Jack Kaiser. They sold the furniture part of the company in 1981 and stayed in the floor covering and custom drapery business for several years before retiring.
He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Paola, where he held several offices through the years.
He was an active member of the local business community and was a member of the Paola Chamber of Commerce.
A brother, William Kaiser, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Kaiser of Lawrence; two daughters, Ann Evans of Lawrence and Susan Young of Mechanicsville, Md.; two brothers, Jack Kaiser of Lawrence and Robert Kaiser of Arizona; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements will be under the direction of Wilson and Son Funeral Home of Paola. A visitation is planned and services are tentatively scheduled for Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Paola Cemetery.
