Velma B. McCarty
JAN. 16, 1914 - MARCH 23, 2005
Velma B. McCarty, 91, a former resident of the Cadmus and Parker areas, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Retirement Village in Ellsworth, Kan.
She was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Garnett, the daughter of Harley O. and Minnie Lowe Collins. She grew up west of Cadmus.
She married Harmie McCarty on Jan. 20, 1932, in Fontana. They lived on a farm southeast of Cadmus before moving to a farm west of Parker. They later lived in Greeley for several years before moving in 1939 to Holyrood, Kan., where Mr. McCarty worked in the oil fields. They continued to make their home in Holyrood. He died Nov. 19, 1972.
Mrs. McCarty was a piano instructor and gave private lessons.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lorraine, Kan.
Also preceding her in death was a son, Leonard G. McCarty, who died Feb. 11, 1997.
Surviving are a son, Lonnie D. McCarty of Ellinwood, Kan.; two daughters, Elaine Nienke of Ellsworth and Kay Kratzer of Holyrood; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Saturday in the church. Burial was in Goodrich Cemetery. Arrangements were by Parsons Funeral Home of Ellsworth.
Memorials may be made to the church or the retirement village.
Raymond Roy Bledsoe
MAY 5, 1933 - NOV. 21, 2005
Raymond Roy Bledsoe, 72, Pleasanton, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott.
The son of Henry and Nettie Wyrick Bledsoe, he was born May 5, 1933, in Shell City, Mo. On Nov. 16, 1984, he and Kay Hoffman were married in Hutchinson, Kan.
Mr. Bledsoe worked as a welder for Thorco Manufacturing prior to retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Bledsoe of Pleasanton; three sons, Dennis Bledsoe of Wichita and Raymond Bledsoe Jr. and Billy Bledsoe, both of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Ranae Nimerick of Tulsa and Pamela Glass of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a stepson, Stacy Base; a stepdaughter, Shelly Berner; four brothers, Don Bledsoe and Everett Bledsoe, both of Wichita; Robert Bledsoe of Fort Scott and Howard Bledsoe of Troutville, Pa.; a sister, Violet Carroll of Rich Hill, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton.
Lourena Ann Clark
APRIL 27, 1918 - NOV. 15, 2005
Lourena Ann Clark, 87, Lane, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, in Olathe Medical Center.
The daughter of James Earl and Era Mae Glasgow Morgan, she was born April 27, 1918, in Nashville, Tenn. She grew up in Nashville and graduated from Hume Fogg East High School.
She and the Rev. Raymond Ellis Clark Sr. were married March 11, 1945, in Franklin, Ky. They became the parents of five children. They lived in Franklin and Madison in Tennessee. After her husband purchased a dairy farm in Primm Springs, Tenn., the family moved there.
Mrs. Clark was a major contributor in the farm's success. She milked cows while instructing her children about the art of milking. She drove a six-forward-gear 16-foot cattle rack and diesel tractors, and prepared home-cooked meals for her family. She was known as the only one in the family who could tame a 1,800-pound bull named Lad.
Once their children were older, the family moved to Fairview, Tenn. She spent time encouraging her family in music. She could play the accordion and the piano. She was a gifted singer and inspired her family to form a Christian singing group to help her husband in his ministry with the Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Clark purchased a dress shop with her sister and ran the store for five years. They moved to Dickson, Tenn., in 1973, and she became active in the church and was influential in the lives of her grandchildren. She and her husband continued to live in Dickson until 1999, when they moved to Lane to build themselves a new house closer to their grandchildren.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Osawatomie.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Nancy Jean Chafin; a sister, Ruby Mae Hall; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Diane Clark.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Clark of the home; two daughters, Judith Ann Brunet of Paola and Shirley Lynne of Princeton; two sons, the Rev. Raymond Ellis Clark Jr. of Morrilton, Ark., and James Earl Clark of Franklin, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday night at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. A second service and burial took place Sunday in Dickson under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

Bill Isenhower
JULY 19, 1926 - NOV. 18, 2005
Bill Isenhower, 79, Branson West, Mo., a former area resident, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, in Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson.
The son of Harley Raymond and Kathryn Beaman Isenhower, he was born July 19, 1926, in Lamar, Mo. After graduating in 1944 from Lamar High School, he served his country with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He then attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He became a certified public accountant, teaching part time for one year at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Isenhower was a founding partner in the accounting firm of Isenhower, Farrell and Co. in Overland Park. The company later merged to become Mise, Houser, Schlinger and Kimes.
He was a member of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accounts and an honorary member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
He and his wife, Carolyn Collins Isenhower, lived in the Kansas City area for 20 years before moving to east central Kansas where they owned and operated Isenhower Farms for 30 years.
He had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Block for 30 years. After they moved to Branson West in 2004, he joined the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Kimberling City, Mo.
Those preceding him in death included a brother, Jay W. Isenhower, and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Isenhower of the home; a daughter, Valerie Isenhower of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Mark Isenhower of Fontana and Stephen Isenhower of Houston, Texas; a sister, Donna Rae Woodard of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday in the Lake Cemetery
under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.

Velma Lucille Monnard
NOV. 9, 1912 - NOV. 18, 2005
Velma Lucille Monnard, 93, Garnett, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, in Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.
The daughter of Ben and Lena Sturgeon, she was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Madison, Kan., and lived most of her life in the Madison community. She graduated in 1930 from Madison High School and in 1931 from Wichita Business College.
She and Francis Monnard were married June 9, 1934, in Topeka. They lived most of their married years in Madison. From 1967 until 1971, she was employed as a residence hall director at Emporia State University.
They moved to Garnett in 1980 to be near their daughter.
Mrs. Monnard was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Madison throughout her life, taking great interest in the church's missions and was very active in the bloodmobile visits. She had served as a den mother and a member of the Mother's Council in scouting.
She was known for her angel food cakes, noodles, holiday sugar cookies, her letter writing and graceful penmanship.
Those preceding her in death included her husband, Francis Monnard; a brother; a sister; and one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include her children, Carol Foltz and Richard Monnard, both of Garnett, and Gary Monnard of Davenport, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in the church in Madison, under the direction of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett.
Memorials may be made in her name to the church or the Garnett Public Library.
Lyle Don Beets
Aug. 28, 1931 - Dec. 28, 2005
Lyle Don Beets, 74, Hillsdale, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare nursing facility in Spring Hill.
He was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Hillsdale to Ralph and Hazel Rose Denney Beets. He attended Hillsdale Grade School and Paola and Spring Hill high schools, graduating in 1950.
He married Rose Storch on March 18, 1956. They became the parents of three sons. They built their home in Spring Hill and then moved to Prairie Village, where he was a fireman for 33 years, retiring in 1989 as captain of NE Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2. They bought part of the old Beets homestead and built their new home in the Hillsdale community.
Mr. Beets was in the Kansas Army National Guard for 11 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Spring Hill.
He was known as a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He touched many lives and was an honest, caring friend.
Two brothers, Alfred Beets and Duke Beets, were among those preceding him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Beets of the home; his three sons, Daniel Beets of Spring Hill, Jeffrey Beets of Hillsdale and Bradley Beets of Overland Park; two sisters, Loveta Medlin of Spring Hill and Theda Clark of Paola; and three grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 30 in Bruce Funeral Home in Spring Hill. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe.
