Dennis James Hull
NOV. 18, 1954 - JULY 18, 2004

Dennis James Hull, 49, a former Paola resident, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 18, 2004, at his home in Bradenton, Fla.

He was born Nov. 18, 1954, in Monett, Mo., the son of Jackie Lee and Clara May Hull. The family moved from Holiday, Kan., in the early 1960s to Paola, where he attended school and graduated from Paola High School in 1972.

Mr. Hull was a self-employed remodeling contractor.

His father preceded him in death.

Those surviving are his mother, Clara Hull of Purdy, Mo.; three brothers, Michael Hull of Aurora, Mo., and Steven Hull and Robert Hull, both of Rock Hill, S.C.; and a sister, Sue Tiner of Hartshorne, Okla.

Ruby A. Jones
JAN. 23, 1925 - JULY 24, 2004

Ruby A. Jones, 79, Garnett, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, in Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.

She was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Superior, Neb., the daughter of Herbert and Lena Sund Finnell.

She was a legal secretary for KC Southern before retiring in 1998. She lived most of her life in the Shawnee Mission area until moving to Garnett in 1998.

Those preceding her in death included three brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Perry Burris.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Burris of Garnett and Vicki Nick of Lenexa; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Private family services were held in Garnett. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel of Garnett cared for the arrangements.

Margaret E. Lien
MARCH 26, 1906 - JULY 17, 2004

Margaret E. Lien, 98, Paola, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in her home.

She was born March 26, 1906, in Newcastle, Ind., to William A. and Alice Gray Folger Hauser. The family moved to North Dakota when she was a child. She attended Holiness Methodist School of Theology in Minneapolis.

She was married Feb. 10, 1933, to the Rev. Carl G. Lien in Minneapolis. They became the parents of two daughters. Her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lien served as a pastor's wife alongside her husband in many churches in Minnesota, two in South Dakota and in Seneca, Ill.
She was involved in WCTU and all church related groups. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, needlework, cooking, gardening and entertaining family and friends.

Surviving are her two daughters, Carol Jensen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janice Gillespie of Paola; a brother, Eugene Hanser of Langsburg, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Tuesday in Albin Chapel, 6855 Rowland Road, Eden Prairie, Minn. 55344. A memorial service will be at a later date in Paola. Local arrangements were by Wilson and Son Funeral Home of Paola.

Memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice and her favorite charities in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Chelsie Ann Spain
APRIL 14, 1985 - JULY 23, 2004

Chelsie Ann Spain, 19, Kincaid, died Friday, July 23, 2004, in Le Roy, Kan.

She was born April 14, 1985, in Garnett, the daughter of Craig E. Spain and Patty A. Holt Spain. She graduated in 2004 from Crest High School in Colony, Kan., and was a student at Allen County Community College.

Miss Spain was working part time at Wal-Mart in Iola.

Survivors include her father of Garnett; her mother of Kincaid; her grandparents, Sue Ann Spain of Eureka, Kan., and Jack and Violet Holt of Kincaid; and a brother, Brad Spain of Manhattan.

Services were held Tuesday in the Crest High School gymnasium in Colony, followed by burial in the Long Elm Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Chelsie Spain Scholarship at Crest High School in care of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Raymond Grant Tolly
JUNE 15, 1945 - JULY 1, 2004

Raymond Grant Tolly, 59, Lee's Summit, Mo., a former La Cygne resident, died Thursday, July 1, 2004.

He was born June 15, 1945, near Southwest City, Mo., the son of Lester and Bonnie Kirk Tolly. The family moved to La Cygne, and he graduated from La Cygne High School in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army from May 25, 1967, to Oct. 19, 1970, and was in Korea part of that time.

He married Nellie Louise Vaughn on March 4, 1969. They became the parents of two children. After they divorced, he moved to Lee's Summit, Mo.

Mr. Tolly worked at Wade Quarries in La Cygne for several years. He worked for his brother, Lewis Tolly, who operates Tolly's Lawn Care.

He was a Boy Scout leader while living in La Cygne. He organized a yearly trash pickup with the troop from U.S. Highway 69 to Kansas Highway 7.

In Lee's Summit, he was a member of Jack Roy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5789. He volunteered time at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. He called bingo at the veterans' home in Warrensburg, Mo., and at the VA Medical Center several times a year.

He enjoyed cooking breakfast at the VFW post every Sunday morning.

Surviving are his mother, Bonnie Lou Tolly of La Cygne; a son, Robert Raymond Tolly of Wellington, Kan.; a daughter, Molly Marie of Lawrence; a stepson, Jason Blakey; three brothers, Jim Tolly of Dripping Springs, Texas, John Tolly of Austin, Texas, and Lewis Tolly of Creighton, Mo.; two sisters, Glorianna Ford of Concordia, Kan., and Margaret Melendy of Kansas City, Mo.; a granddaughter; and three stepgrandchildren. Also surviving is his estranged wife, Charlene.

Services were July 8 at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. Burial was in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery near Higginsville, Mo.

Hazel P. Attebery
JAN. 23, 1919 - SEPT. 26, 2004

Hazel P. Attebery, 85, longtime Paola resident and La Cygne native, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, in Miami County Medical Center in Paola.

She was born Jan. 23, 1919, in La Cygne, the daughter of Joseph and Grace Mathews Aronhalt. The family moved to Gem, Kan., where she started her schooling. They lived in Colby, Kan., and La Cygne before making their home in Paola. She graduated in 1938 from Paola High School.

She and Chester Attebery were married June 17, 1939, in Olathe. They lived in Paola for a short time before moving to a farm in Richland Township. They became the parents of six children. They returned to Paola in 1962. Her husband preceded her in death March 20, 2000.

Mrs. Attebery worked from 1953 to 1960 as a seamstress at the H.D. Lee Co. While living in Paola, she was employed for a short time at Smith Garment Factory.

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church while living in Richland Township and was a current member of First Baptist Church in Paola.

Mrs. Attebery enjoyed playing games, singing in church and for funerals, doing all kinds of crafts, sewing, making pillowcase dolls, ceramics and fishing. She was very talented with her crafts and enjoyed the time she spent helping at a ceramic shop in Paola.

Others preceding her in death were two brothers, Neil Aronholt and Edmond Aronholt, and two sisters, Louise Noel and Francis Merrill.

Surviving her are three daughters, Charlotte Bousman and Paula Attebery Zimmerman, both of Paola, and Penny Murray of San Antonio, Texas; three sons, Harold Attebery of Paola, Kenneth Attebery of Rantoul and Earl Attebery of Olathe; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola and burial was in Paola Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

AnnaBelle Benson
JAN. 30, 1913-OCT. 5, 2004

AnnaBelle Benson, 91, La Cygne, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Vintage Park in Louisburg.

She was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Miami County, the daughter of Charles Cash Karr and Ona Laura Miller. She and Edwin Benson were married and they became the parents of two sons.

Mrs. Benson was a homemaker. Her memberships included the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of La Cygne; Order of The Eastern Star, Chapter No. 313; and the Canasta Club.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, who died Aug. 25, 1980; two sisters, Muriel Wicks and Evelyn Jackson; and a brother, Clifford Karr.

Survivors include her two sons, Edwin Charles Benson of Paola and Larry Benson of Stilwell; two sisters, LaVerne Fox of Reseda, Calif., and Frances Peine of McPharr, Texas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home in La Cygne. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the church, followed by burial in Jingo Cemetery east of La Cygne.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, KS 66040.
