ELLERMAN, Albert H. Ellerman, 95 years old, lifelong Nortonville area resident, died Friday morning, February 16, 2007 at the Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville, KS.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday, February 20, at the Nortonville Christian Church, Nortonville, KS, with LeRoy Riley, Minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Nortonville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday, February 19, at the Nortonville Christian Church. Albert was born July 9, 1911 on the family farm, three miles east of Nortonville, the son of Levi F. and Josephine (Blodgett) Ellerman. Growing up he attended a one-room school, Ellerman Grade School, near his home. Mr. Ellerman farmed for over 71 years in the Nortonville area. Besides agriculture, he also was a stockman, raised horses, and dairy farmed He was a member of the Nortonville Christian Church, a Deacon of the church, a member of the Valley Falls Saddle Club and the Kansas Farm Bureau. For many years, Mr. Ellerman was Treasurer for the Rural District #42 School Board at Nortonville. He enjoyed breaking and riding horses and especially enjoyed being around his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Albert and June Locklin were married on May 1, 1934 in Amour Junction, MO. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this past May. June survives of the home.
Other survivors include their children and spouses, Evelyn and Francis Lorenz of Atchison, KS; LeRoy and Sally Ellerman, Marvin and Sue Ellerman, Kenny and Eileen Ellerman, all of Effingham, KS; Debbie and Perry Kadous of Topeka, KS; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Phillip Dean Ellerman in 1983; three brothers, Ray, Orville, and Noble Ellerman; three sisters, Grace Straub, Edna Henry and Ferne Trimble.
NOLL, Mary Ellen Noll, 66, Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 19, 2007 at St. Benedict Church with Father Gerard Senecal, OSB celebrant. The body will be cremated. A rosary will be said at 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home followed by a visitation till 7:00 P.M. Mary Ellen was born November 23, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Duncan) Thomas. She was a 1958 graduate of Mount Saint Scholastica and received her Nursing Degree from Missouri Western State College in 1980. She had worked for Sears, Rockwell (Atchison Casting) and 27 years at Atchison Hospital as a surgical nurse. She married Merle Noll on August 25, 1959, they later divorced. Mary Ellen enjoyed gardening, watching HGTV, reading, playing the powerball, flea markets and she loved taking road trips with her sister Susie.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children Russ Noll and his wife Marcia of Oskaloosa, KS; Robyn Handke and her husband Phil of Atchison, KS; Roger Noll and his wife Shelley of CT, Randi Campbell and her husband Kolin of California; Raymond Noll of Kansas City, MO; and Rachael Domann and her husband Joe of Ft. Worth, TX. 11 grandchildren; sisters Susie Pickman of Atchison, KS and Ruth Smith of Hattiesburg, MS; numerous nieces and nephews and companion Pat Moriarity of Atchison, KS
She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Quentin Thomas and her parents.
BYRNS, Gladys N. Byrns, 86, Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Gladys was born October 24, 1920, the daughter of Charles J. and Birdie L. (Demoret) Christian. She was employed with Snowden Mize Drug and retired from Atchison Leather Products. Gladys was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Guild at the church. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed going on bus trips with her daughter and she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by her son Herb Vaughan and his wife Mary Rose of St. Joseph, MO; daughters Carrie Kurtz and her husband Charles “Beaver” of Atchison; and Rita Weatherford and her husband Robert of Atchison; 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and a sister Mildred Holland of Atchison, KS.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Biester, 2 brothers and her parents.
SIEBENMORGEN, Irene A. Siebenmorgen, 95, of Atchison, KS. died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 surrounded by her loving family at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Friday, Feb. 16th, 2007 at St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Bertrand LaNoue, O.S.B. as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Leo’s Cemetery, Horton, KS. Irene A. Kletchka was born on Jan. 16, 1912 in Stratton, NE., the daughter of John and Lena (Trageser) Kletchka. She attended Kennekuk and St. Leo’s parochial schools. She was married to Hugo Siebenmorgen on April 18, 1934 at St. Leo’s Church, Horton, KS., and was a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Siebenmorgen was a member of the St. Joseph Church, Atchison, the Altar Society and enjoyed embroidery, quilting, gardening and cooking. She especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons; Larry and his wife Rita Siebenmorgen, Atchison, KS., Gary and his wife JoAnn Siebenmorgen, and John and his wife Rhonda Siebenmorgen, all of Easton, KS., three daughters; Patricia and her husband Wayne Hetz, Atchison, KS., Irene Kay and her husband Butch Faught, Effingham, KS., and Mary Ann and her husband, John Rosencutter, Topeka, KS., fifteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, Hugo, an infant son, Joseph and two brothers, Laurence and John Kletchka preceded her in death.
PORTENIER, John W. Portenier, 71, of Atchison, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 15th, 2007, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS with the Rev. George Watts officiating. John was born on March 15, 1935 in Severance, KS, the son of Fred and Bertha Marie (Jones) Portenier, Sr. He attended school in Atchison and worked as a fitter welder for Missouri Valley Fabricators in Leavenworth, KS for 20 years. John also worked for and retired from ConAgra Grain in Atchison and was a parts driver for O’Reilly Auto Parts. He enjoyed dirt track racing and watching NASCAR, Chiefs football, KU Basketball and various other sports. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Portenier was married to Alice Louise Duncan on May 5, 1962 in Platte City, MO. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2006. Survivors include five sons, Joe and his wife Barb Portenier, Atchison, KS; Michael and his wife Jennie Billings, Gower, MO; Doug Billings, Atchison, KS; Randy and his wife Amy Billings, Atchison, KS; John and his wife Theresa Portenier, Jr., Atchison, KS; four sisters, Iris ‘Helen’ Birkinsha, Patricia Emery, Lilllian Berry, and Sandra Tull, all of Atchison, KS. Fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His parents, wife, three brothers, Fred Jr., Bill, and Tom Portenier, one infant sister, Dorothy Louise Portenier, and a son, Daniel Portenier, preceded him in death.
LOCKHART, Willis Orval “Slim” Lockhart, 83, Nortonville, KS., died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Atchison Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. Willis was born on February 25, 1923, in Graham, MO., the first born of Van Burean and Flossie Irene (Coston) Lockhart. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1942. Willis was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Mr. Lockhart was a farmer, farming all of his life. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization for many years. Mr. Lockhart served on the U.S.D. # 377 School Board. He enjoyed working on his farm, reading, visiting with friends and playing cards at the Senior Center.
Mr. Lockhart was married to Marion Kathryn Ladwig on March 18, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 25, 1997. Survivors include a daughter and her husband; Connie and Joe Yaussi, Powhattan, KS., two sons; Gary and Meredith Lockhart, Cummings, KS., and Clifford and Billie Lockhart, Effingham, KS., a brother; Glenn and his wife Shirley Lockhart, Valley Falls, KS., a sister; Hazel Harrier, Rossville, KS., five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, two nephews, and a niece. His parents, wife, and a niece preceded him in death.
NUNN, John Michael Nunn, 43, Valley Falls, KS formerly of Atchison passed away Monday, February 5, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. John was born December 24, 1963 in Sharon, PA. the son of James M. and Clarice A. (Werth) Nunn. He attended ACES and Maur Hill in Atchison. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. John worked for Sysco Food Service in Lenexa, KS for 12 years. He was a professional driver for Trans Am, J&H and later as an independent driver. He attended Northeast Kansas Technical College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Networking and LAN Administration. He was IT Manager for the Atchison Hospital for 3 years and was recently doing independent consulting for business and home computing. He enjoyed working with computers, attending AA, playing golf, watching football and basketball and especially spending time with his children.
He married Tara Martin on May 28, 2004 in Topeka, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his children Jerrod, Jaelyn, and Jorgann of Valley Falls, KS and Heather Nunn of Emporia, KS; maternal grandmother Agatha Werth of Seneca, KS. Sisters Jolene Smith and her husband Randy of Spring Hill, KS; and Jamie Morast of Olathe, KS; step siblings Steve Dugger and his wife Flo; Marty Dugger and his wife Kerry; William Dugger, Jr.; Patty Collier and her husband Dennis; Becky Dugger; Reanae Vice and her husband Rick and Angie Dugger; step father Bill Dugger and numerous nieces, nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepsister Belinda Foust.
