Evalee Deshane

Evalee Deshane, 82, Olathe, a former La Cygne resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, in her home.
The daughter of Ray and Lillian Spaar Sandage, she was born March 29, 1921. For many years before retiring, she worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Co. in Kansas City.
Mrs. Deshane was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Missouri Silver Hair Legislature.
She was a widow.
Survivors include her son, James Bates of Houston, Texas; her two daughters, Barbara Norton of Olathe and Mary Davis of Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Friday in Oak Lawn Cemetery
in La Cygne. Arrangements were cared for by Coffel-Schneider Mangold Funeral Home in La Cygne.
Inez E. Kraft
APRIL 9, 1919 - SEPT. 23, 2003
Inez E. Kraft, 84, an Osawatomie native, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at her home in Kansas City.
"Dolly," as she was known, was born April 9, 1919, in Osawatomie, the daughter of Wiley and Carmen Cox. She was a 1937 graduate of Osawatomie High School.
After the death of her father, she moved in 1941 to Kansas City with her mother and her three younger brothers.
She and her husband, I. Lee Kraft, would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Sept. 26.
Mrs. Kraft's life revolved around her family. She was a room mother for both of her children, a Cub Scout den mother for her son and a Brownie leader for her daughter.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Kraft; her son, Ronald Kraft; her daughter, Nancy Weiss; a brother, Ray Cox; a sister, Marjorie Rummel; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Friday in Mount Moriah Cemetery
in Kansas City, Mo. Services were under the direction of Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel in Kansas City, Mo.
Lilah Lindsey
AUG. 23, 1926 - SEPT. 25, 2003
Lilah Lindsey, 77, Lawrence, formerly of Pleasanton, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 23, 1926, in La Cygne, the daughter of Jesse and Lilah Bixler Hall. She and Glen Lindsey were married in 1944 in Santa Rosa, N.M.
Mrs. Lindsey was executive secretary for the president of Western Insurance in Fort Scott prior to retiring.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 862, both of Pleasanton.
Those preceding her in death included a brother, Jack Hall.
Survivors include her husband, Glen Lindsey of Lawrence; two sons, John Lindsey of Lawrence and Richard Lindsey of Pleasanton; two sisters, Dorothy Miller of Gult, Calif., and Pearl Russell of Pleasanton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday in Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Burial was in Pleasanton Cemetery.
In lieu of memorials, her husband's request was "to take a friend out for lunch."
Margaret Bailey
JAN. 20, 1919 - NOV. 27, 2003
Margaret Bailey, 84, Sun City, Ariz., a native of Osawatomie and former Fort Scott resident, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in the Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital in Sun City West.
She was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Osawatomie, the daughter of Floyd A. and Nina Gladys Jones Jacobs. She was a 1937 graduate of Osawatomie High School.
On Sept. 25, 1943, she and Ronald E. Bailey were married in Quantico, Va.
She received her life teaching certificate from Pittsburg State University and retired from the Western Insurance Co. where she had been an insurance supervisor for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald E. Bailey of the home; two daughters, Sandra K. Steitz of Sun City West and Beverly A. Wright of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Ronald E. Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Mary E. Smith of Sun City West, Ariz., and Gertrude A. Vess and Billie L. Bryant, both of Osawatomie; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday in the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home in Fort Scott. Pallbearers were Bob Steitz, Justin Steitz, Brian Kelley, Brian Reddy, Chris Wright and Jerry Wright. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Paul Earl Davis
JUNE 23, 1920 - NOV. 26, 2003
Paul Earl Davis, 83, Pleasanton, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Born June 23, 1920, in Emporia, he was the son of Frank Earl and Eva Belle Graham Davis.
Mr. Davis was a lineman for Kansas City Power and Light Co. for 32 years prior to his retirement.
He served on the Pleasanton City Council for nine years and was a township trustee for 12 years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 81st Wildcat Division.
His first wife, Marjorie Fultz, preceded him in death in 1995.
He and Katherine Lindemann were married Dec. 12, 2000, in Fort Scott.
His memberships included the United Methodist Church, Masons and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 862, all of Pleasanton.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Davis of Pleasanton.
Services were Monday in Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Burial was in Pleasanton Cemetery.

Jay R. Douglas III
AUG. 27, 1930 - NOV. 29, 2003
Jay R. Douglas III, 73, North Little Rock, Ark., an Osawatomie native, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Osawatomie, the son of Jay R. Douglas II and Jessie F. Douglas. He grew up in Osawatomie, attended local schools and was a 1948 graduate of Osawatomie High School.
Mr. Douglas retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 43 years of railroad service, 30 of which were with Missouri Pacific Railroad.
He was a member of Baring Cross Baptist Church and International Association of Machinists.
A sister, Elizabeth Havens, was among those preceding him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothea Douglas; a son, Jay R. Douglas IV; a daughter, Melinda Moore; and five grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Roller-Owens Funeral Home of Little Rock is in charge of arrangements.
