Harold Wayne Brown
(Nov. 13, 1942 - Oct. 10, 2002)

Harold Wayne Brown, 59, Paola, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in St. Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park.

He was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Spring Hill, to James and Elsie White Brown. He grew up in the Spring Hill area and attended Spring Hill High School.

As a youth, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served from 1964 to 1965.

He was married to Donnabeth "Dee" Weider in Arkansas on Nov. 26, 1922. They made their home in rural Miami County.

During his adult life, he was a welder and enjoyed metal fabricating. He also farmed, worked for Kenworth Trucking of Kansas City and Smith Loveless Manufacturing of Olathe. He worked for the Miami County in the road maintenance department for 12 years and became a foreman. He worked for Andy Yackle Trucking Co. for the past six years.

Mr. Brown also enjoyed fishing and traveling. To his fellow workers, he was well-respected for his work ethic and was known as a role model for all. He also was known as a loving husband and friend.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Brown of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Darnell of Gardner; a sister, Glenna Gilbreth of Roswell, Ga.; and a granddaughter.

Services were Monday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial will be at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Michael James Henry
(April 22, 1962 - SEPT. 30, 2002)

Michael James Henry, 40, a former Paola resident, died about Sept. 30, 2002, at his home in Lawrence.

He was born April 22, 1962, in Paola to Donald R. and Hazel I. Prothe Henry. He grew up in the Paola community and graduated from Paola High School in 1980.

He enrolled at Fort Scott Community College and received his associate of art degree in 1988. He later attended the University of Kansas for a short time.

While living in Paola, he worked for several grocery stores, including Sutherland's, Apple Market and Queen's Price Chopper. He thoroughly enjoyed this type of work.

He moved to Lawrence in 1990 and was employed at Packer Plastics, where he had worked the past 10 years as a machine operator.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Paola.

Mr. Henry was especially proud of being an Eagle Scout and a past assistant Scout leader. When he was not working, he could be found reading or playing golf. He also enjoyed the outdoors, music and camping.

His grandparents, Anton Prothe and Lilie Prothe Nevius and Harry and Grace Henry, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his parents, Donald and Hazel Henry of Paola; and two brothers, Steve Henry of Edwardsville, Kan., and Daniel Henry of Paola.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will follow in the Paola Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church's endowment fund in care of Wilson and Son Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Georgia F. Myers
(Sept. 20, 1915 - Oct. 11, 2002)

Georgia F. Myers, 87, longtime Paola resident, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 20, 1915, on a farm in Johnson County. She was one of five children of George W. and Dolly W. Walker Freeman. She grew up in the Johnson County area and graduated from De Soto High School in 1933.

Following high school, she worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in De Soto.

She was married to Homer Myers on May 17, 1947, and they made their home on a dairy farm in the Paola area. She and her husband worked the dairy farm for several years. He preceded her in death July 22, 1977.

Mrs. Myers also worked at the former Miami County Hospital until 1963, when she was employed at Osawatomie State Hospital as a mental health counselor. She retired from the state hospital in 1980 after 17 years of service.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, an extension homemaker unit and several card clubs in Paola for several years.

She enjoyed the clubs she participated in, gardening, sewing, baby-sitting and traveling. She also enjoyed crocheting for her grandchildren.

Others preceding her in death were her daughter, Betty Gallagher, a brother, Orlie Freeman, and two sisters, Verna Bowlin and Ileah Freeman.

Surviving are her son, Gene Myers of Paola; a sister, Trudie Vance of Olathe; and five grandchildren.

Services were Monday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in the Paola Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in her name to Baker Community Club in care of the funeral home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.

Rita Louise Thompson
(July 24, 1954 - Oct. 7, 2002)

Rita Louise Thompson, 48, Paola, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Medicalodge in Paola, where she had lived for 18 years.

She was born July 24, 1954, in Kansas City, Kan., to Herley Sr. and Willa A. Thompson. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1972 and from Kansas City, Kan., Community College with an associate degree in computer programming.

Her father preceded her in death.

Surviving are her mother, Willa Thompson of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Herley Thompson Jr. of Raytown, Mo., and William Thompson of Valley View, Kan.; three sisters, Arite A. Thompson of Lenexa, Linda M. Thompson-Weaver of Kansas City, Kan., and Elsie J. Thompson-Baucom of Lake Mary, Fla.; and two half sisters, Mary Ellen McConnell and Ernestine Hamilton, both of Kansas City, Mo.

Services were Oct. 12 at Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel in Kansas City, Kan. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery.

David L. Ticknor
David L. Ticknor, 92, Kansas City, Mo., a native of Fontana, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in Life Care Center of Grandview, Mo. Services were Wednesday, Oct. 16 in at Muehlebach Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Annalyse Nicole VanDonsel
(Died April 9, 2003)

Annalyse Nicole VanDonsel, 3 1/2-month-old daughter of Jeff and Julie Zimmerman VanDonsel of Paola, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003.

The infant was affectionately called "Baby Bigger Girl."

Surviving are her parents, Jeff and Julie VanDonsel, and a brother, Zachary, all of the home; her grandparents, Donna and Jeff VanDonsel Sr. of the Ozarks and Kevin and Joyce Zimmerman of Bonner Springs; and her great-grandparents.

Services were Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Home in Overland Park, with private family burial.

Irene Weaver Kingham
(June 24, 1904 - April 8, 2003)

Irene Weaver Kingham, 98, La Cygne, a former longtime Paola resident, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Olathe Medical Center.

She was born June 24, 1904, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of King and Sarah Anderson George. She attended elementary schools in rural Miami County and graduated from McGreagor School of Cosmetology in Kansas City, Mo.

She and Elsie Kline opened the Welcome Beauty Shop in Paola in 1927.

She married Henry Weaver, a local barber, in 1929. They continued to live and work in Paola until 1943, when Mr. Weaver was sent to Cheyenne, Wyo., with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, they continued to live in Cheyenne, where he died in 1955.

She married John Kingham of Cheyenne in 1956. Following his death in 1968, she returned to Paola to live. With her sister, Pauline Schall, and niece, Wanda Clarke, the Whippoorwill Farm north of Paola was purchased and the three women lived there until 1991.

Following the death of her sister, she and her niece purchased a home south of Paola. She entered Swan Manor Estates in La Cygne in 1998.

Survivors include her niece, Wanda Clarke of La Cygne, and a stepson, Richard Kingham of Torrance, Calif.

Graveside services were Thursday in Paola Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in her name to Swan Manor in La Cygne.
