Doris Morris
ARKANSAS CITY – Doris Irene Morris, 82, of Arkansas City, died July 18, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery
at Ashton.
A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions may be made at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Morris was born July 19, 1919, in Braman, Okla., to Rena B. (Hood) and Roy E. Naylor. She attended Braman schools and graduated from high school in 1938.
On July 12, 1939, she married George W. Morris in Newkirk. They made their home on farms in Cowley County, Kay County, the IXL area and the Ashton area. Morris was a baker for Arkansas City Middle School until retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle of United Methodist Women.
Her husband and infant twin sons, Ronald and Donald Morris, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Robert L. Morris, Arkansas City, Gary K. Morris, Newton, and Neil W. Morris, Maineville, Ohio; a daughter, Janice R. Pieper, Las Vegas; a sister, Dorotha Hoffman, Garber, Okla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Charles Jones
ARKANSAS CITY – Charles Jones, 78, of Arkansas City, died July 21, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Private services will be held later. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Jones was born June 20, 1924, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Bessie Marie (Yarnall) and Charles Jones. He was raised and educated in Terre Haute.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
On Jan. 23, 1953, he married Shirley Goodman in Sullivan, Ind. They lived in Linton, Ind., for several years before moving to Long Beach, Calif., where Jones worked for McDonnell-Douglas as a metal fitter for 31 years. The couple retired and moved to Arkansas City in 1988.
Jones was a member of Shelton-Beaty Post 18 of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jones, Arkansas City; three daughters, Penny Daye Ele, Arkansas City, Sandra Jean Chamberlain, New Milton, England, and Dawnell Satterlee, Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Clifford Earl Jones, and a sister, Carolyn Sue Bogart, both of Linton, Ind.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joan Blubaugh
Joan Gaynell Blubaugh, 80, of Winfield, died July 20, 2002, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Blackwell cemetery. James W. Roberts III will officiate. Roberts and Son Funeral Home of Blackwell is in charge of arrangements.
Blubaugh was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Blackwell, to Marie (McClung) and Damien Leo Blubaugh. She grew up in Blackwell. Following her schooling, she moved to Fort Supply, Okla., and cleaned houses and did ironing for many people.
A resident of Winfield for the past 25 years, she was a member of the Catholic Church in Blackwell.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathy Parker, Kaw City, Okla., and Rita Blubaugh, Arkansas City.
Euphemia Wilson
OXFORD – Euphemia Jane Wilson, 89, of Oxford, died July 20, 2002, at Riverview Manor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Oxford Christian Church. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Oxford Funeral Service until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with Trinity Hospice of Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Wilson was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Oxford, to Anna Marie (Ford) and James Samuel Butterworth. She graduated from Oxford High School and attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Winfield.
On Oct. 7, 1935, she married Leslie Raymond Ford in Carthage, Mo. His work for Cities Service Gas. Co. took them to many communities before they returned to Oxford in 1952. Mr. Ford died Aug. 2, 1971.
On Sept. 21, 1975, she married Clabe F. Wilson in Wellington, and they lived in Oxford. He died June 9, 1985.
Wilson worked at the Wellington hospital, William Newton Hospital and Winfield State Hospital and Training Center before retiring.
She was a member of the Oxford Christian Church and the Oxford chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Milton Ford, Ellenwood, Ga.; one brother, Ted Butterworth, Oxford; and two grandsons.
Alma Stevenson
ARKANSAS CITY – Services for Alma Lubirda Stevenson were held at 10 a.m. July 22, 2002, at the Arkansas City Church of Christ. Gratz A. Brown officiated. Burial was in Rosenwald Cemetery, Guthrie, Okla.
Music included “Hand in Hand With Jesus,” “Jesus Hold My Hand,” “Mansion, Robe and Crown” and “He Bore It All,” led by Floyd Adkins.
Thomas H. Johnson said a prayer and gave the acknowledgement. Maggie Johnson read the obituary.
Casket bearers were Stevenson's nephews, Alvin Scott, Tim Scott, Don Betts Jr., Ron Betts, Henry Stevenson and Charles Williams.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
J.B. Bain
PONCA CITY – J.B. Bain, 59, of Ponca City, died of cancer on July 23, 2002.
A celebration of his life will be held tonight at 7 on the Marland Mansion grounds, 901 Monument Road. The celebration will be casual in dress, and the spirit light.
In case of inclement weather, the celebration will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 N. 14th.

Bain was born March 14, 1943, in Ponca City, to Mae and Ralph Bain.
Survivors include his wife, Coleen Bain, Ponca City; two sons, Frank Bain, Newkirk, and Jared Bain, Stillwater; a daughter, Durita Daniel, Ponca City; his mother, Mae Bain, Cleveland, Okla.; two brothers, Mac G. Bain, Cleveland, and Lee J. Bain, Rolla, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Lois Hanahan
Lois Kitoria Hanahan, 92, formerly of Maple City, died July 22, 2002, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Burial will be in Maple City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City and Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Hanahan was born March 1, 1910, in Bliss, Okla., now Marland, Okla., to Vianna (Ford) and Lewis Stockdale. The family later lived at Lone Tree Hollow Farm on the edge of the Osage reservation, near Frankfort, Okla., and then moved to a farm close to the Hanahan family farm where her future husband lived.
She married Robert Hanahan in Winfield in 1927. They lived in Maple City, on the farm homesteaded by Robert's father. Her husband died in 1989.
A homemaker, Hanahan was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and an extension homemaker unit for more than 50 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Arkansas City.
Survivors include four children, Wynema Anna Cross, Tulsa, Janice Lee Bennett, Derby, Lloyd Bobby Lou Hanahan, Overland Park, and Linda Sue Barnes, Arkansas City; two sisters, Velma Mehringer, Hawaii, and Augusta Matlack, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Emma Anderson
DEWEY, Okla. – Emma Ruth Anderson, 88, of Dewey, died July 26, 2002, at Forrest Manor Nursing Home, Dewey.
Services were at 2 p.m. today in Elmdale Cemetery. Bob Word officiated. Walker-Brown Funeral Home, Bartlesville, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jane Phillips Hospice, 219 N. Virginia, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Anderson was born July 27, 1913, near Sterling, Colo., to Flora Emma (Stenzel) and William Brian Simpson.
On Dec. 2, 1932, she married Otis Floyd Anderson.
Survivors include a daughter, Sonyia Stone, Dewey; a son, Steven Floyd Anderson, Arkansas City; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Goldie Stewart
MOLINE – Goldie W. (Hoyt) Stewart, 82, longtime resident of Moline, died July 27, 2002, in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Moline Cemetery. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Stewart was born March 28, 1920, at Hale, to Minnie and Walter Hoyt. She grew up in Elk County.
On May 20, 1982, she married Clinton Harvey Stewart in Fredonia. They made their home in Moline.
Two sons, James Emory Craft and Clinton Eugene Mosher, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Clinton Stewart, Moline; a son, Dean Craft, Cheney; a daughter, Ruth Corner, Stillwater, Okla.; a brother, Everett Hoyt, Bolton; a sister, Ruth Hall, Fredonia; 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Frances Rice
CEDAR VALE – Frances Betty Rice, 99, of Cedar Vale, died July 28, 2002, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery
in Arkansas City.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home from 5 to 8 tonight.
Rice was born Aug. 18, 1902, on the family farm near Cedar Vale, to Meranda Elizabeth (Oliver) and William Grant Rice. After attending grade school at Centennial District 66 in Cowley County, she took a one-year stenographer's course in Winfield. Following that she spent about 14 years with the Citizens National and Cedar Vale National banks.
She lived 10 years on a Grainola, Okla., farm 18 miles southwest of Cedar Vale. She also cared for a great-aunt and her parents when they were aged.
Rice lived in Arkansas City and Hutchinson for a few years but had been a resident of Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan and Cedar Vale Manor in recent years.
She was a longtime member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include a nephew, Charles William “Billy” Sutton, Wichita; and three nieces, Elizabeth Sutton Sobba, Wichita, Mary Carolee Rice Struble, Salisbury, Mo., and Theresa Jeanette Rice Palmer, Austin, Texas.
