Mary Boaz
GOODLAND – Mary Frances Boaz, 76, a retired bookkeeper, died May 13, 2002, at Goodland Regional Medical Center.
Services were held May 17 at the Goodland Bible Church. Pastors Jim Cress and John Siebert officiated. Burial was in Goodland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church in care of Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
Boaz was born June 26, 1925, in Wichita, to Maggie (Collins) and Chet Reneau. She attend school in Winfield.
On Feb. 14. 1990, she married James Chester Boaz in Donna, Texas.
Boaz was a bookkeeper for Jons Brothers Construction Co. in Englewood, Colo., for many years. She was a member of the Elks and Redman lodge auxiliaries.
In Goodland, she was a member of the Goodland Bible Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, James “Chet” Boaz, Goodland; two daughters, Marie David, Plymouth, Wash., and Sharon Finley, Goodland; six stepchildren, Barbara Reid, Frederick, Colo., Jerry and James Boaz, both of Littleton, Colo., Gary and Dwain Boaz, both of Englewood, Colo., and Beverly Gibson, McMurray, Pa.; a brother, Bill Reneau, Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Maxine Prigmore, Lakewood, Colo., and Jenny Mills, Forbestown, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Charles Cloninger
WICHITA – Charles A. “Chuck” Cloninger, 58, of Wichita, died May 20, 2002.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Broadway Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.
Cloninger was a computer technician for Washer Specialties Co.
Survivors include a brother, David Allen Cloninger, Malvern, Ark., and a sister, Linda Marie Cloninger, Arkansas City.
John Lowrey
Services for John B. Lowrey were held at 3 p.m. May 20, 2002, at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Louise Schuppener was the organist, and Dr. James Schuppener and Don Hale were the vocalists. Alvin Lowrey played the trumpet and accompanied Lowrey's nieces and nephews in singing “When the Saints Go Marching In” as the benediction. Solos were “How Great Thou Art,” “Because He Lives” and “The Lord's Prayer.”
Honorary casket bearers were Claude Hurst, Phillip Bornholdt, Richard and Guy Lowrey and John Whitley.
Casket bearers were Bob and Max Lowrey, Don Bornholdt, Harold and Jim Whitley, Glen Wineinger, Max Arndt and Jerry Lee and Norman Callison.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Good Samaritan Village or the Cowley County Historical Society.

Frank Shelburn
Frank Shelburn, 71, of 1201 Menor, Apt. 412, Winfield, died May 18, 2002, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with Winfield Meals on Wheels and the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Shelburn was born March 26, 1931, in Winfield, to Alta M. (Summers) and Lota F. Shelburn. He was raised and educated in Winfield and as a young man worked at Speedy's Delivery.
After high school he entered the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. After serving four years, he was honorably discharged in 1952. He then moved to Oxford and was employed by Winfield Transfer and Sturgis Meeker Produce. He later worked for Oxford Sand and Gravel as a truck driver and loader operator. After 20 years of service, Shelburn became disabled and retired from Oxford Sand and Gravel in 1987.
On Oct. 5, 1984, he married Maggie (Terrell) Brownlee, and they made their home in Winfield.
Shelburn was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post in Wellington.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Shelburn, Winfield; four sons, John Shelburn, Wichita, Bobby Wallace, Arkansas City, and Roger Brownlee and Kim Brownlee, both of Wellington; four daughters, Marsha Dietrick, Houston, Ruth Ann Weber, Kansas City, Kan., Patty Browning, Spiro, Okla., and Bonita Rogers, Winfield; two brothers, Raymond Shelburn, Lubbock, Texas, and Mike Shelburn, Sulphur Springs, Texas; a sister, Leota Cummings, Winfield; 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lewis Wallace
AUGUSTA – Lewis Dale “Luigi” Wallace, 60, of Augusta, died May 20, 2002, at Augusta Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at Dunsford Funeral Home, 201 E. Fifth, from 4 to 8 this evening.

Wallace was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Wilmot, to Ima (Kennedy) and Earl Wallace. He was an automobile salesman.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Wallace, and a son, Scott Wallace, both of Augusta; two daughters, Terry Schaal, El Dorado, and Anna Wallace, Augusta; two brothers, Raymond Wallace, Winfield, and Ralph Wallace, Bella Vista, Ark.; five sisters, Laura Kampschroeder and Delores Johnson, both of Arkansas City, Luetta Starkey, Pratt, Lydia Purins, Alberta, Ala., and Dollie Hutto, Winfield; and five grandchildren.
Anna Wood
Anna Catherine Wood, 94, of Winfield, died May 20, 2002, at Cumbernauld Village.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery
in Augusta.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 9 tonight. The family will greet visitors from 6:30 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the Cumbernauld Village Activities Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Wood was born Jan. 28, 1908, at Martinsville, Ind., to Ida May (Whitaker) and John Edward Cunningham. As a young girl she moved with her family to Lebanon where she was raised and educated. After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1926, she taught school for a short time.
On March 10, 1940, she married J.F. Young in Downs. A homemaker, she and her husband moved to Winfield in 1945. She worked at the 15th Street Grocery for many years until her retirement in 1968. Mr. Young died March 19, 1964.
On Dec. 27, 1968, she married Clair Neal Wood in Winfield where they lived. He died March 16, 1976.
Wood was a member of the First Christian Church.
Her stepdaughters, Alice White, Grace Welter, Betty Kaufman and Dorothy Hudson, and a stepson, Dean Young, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a stepson, Duane C. Wood, Oklahoma City; five stepdaughters, Lois Clifton, Joy R. Nafziger and Neila A. Poshek, all of Derby, Nada B. Dolloff, Wichita, and Agnes White, Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Joe Cunningham, Osborne; 11 stepgrandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Alva Knapp
SEVERY – Alva Rebecca Knapp, 95, of Howard Twilight Manor, formerly of Severy, died May 20, 2002, at the nursing home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Severy Baptist Church. Pastor Tony Pameticky will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery
at Severy.
A memorial has been established with the Arthritis Foundation. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Knapp was born Dec. 8, 1906, in Miltonvale, to Elizabeth Rebecca (Fuller) and Alvin McClellan Perry. Her family moved to Texas when she was three years old. A few years later, they returned to Kansas and made their home south of Severy. Knapp attended Upper Paw Paw rural school and Severy High School.
On Sept. 12, 1923, she married Harry Glenn Knapp in Eureka. A homemaker, she also worked with her husband at Knapp Service Station in Severy. He died Nov. 27, 1969.
Knapp was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Severy and was active in the Extension Homemakers Unit for many years. She was baptized at the Upper Paw Paw Baptist Church at an early age and later attended Severy Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Darrell Knapp, Augusta; two daughters, Arlene McCollum, Fall River, and Naomi Lacy, Wichita; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Frank Shelburn
Services for Frank A. Shelburn were held at 10 a.m. May 22, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Inurnment was in Highland Cemetery.
Music included recordings of “Precious Memories,” by Jim Reeves, and “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” by Vince Gill.
Casket bearers were Randy Emerson, Jack Leftwich, Bill Sturm and Tom Weeks.
Memorial contributions may be made to Winfield Meals on Wheels or the ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Louise Rahn
MIDLAND, Texas – Louise Kemper Rahn, 83, of Midland, died May 21, 2002, in Arkansas City.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City.
She will be buried in the National Memorial Cemetery
of the Pacific 148 in Honolulu beside her first husband, Lt. R.M. Long, killed in the Pacific during World War II.
Hawks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rahn was born Feb. 17, 1919, east of Arkansas City, to Mary Paulina and Everett Emerson Kemper. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1936. She received an associate's degree from Cowley County Community College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in general studies from Southwestern College in 1990.
Rahn was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, and her local church in Midland, and a former member in Arkansas City.
She was also a member of the Serenity Al-Anon family group, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Association of Uniformed Services, Gold Star Wives of America, American Association of Retired Persons, Midland Symphony Guild, Midland Opera Guild, Midland Society of University Women, Midland Quilters Guild and En Amie Review Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Gail Essex, Midland, Texas, Joan Warren, Arkansas City, Lynn Boyd, Dallas, and Aisha Oberoi, Lahore, Pakistan; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Anna Wood
AUGUSTA – Services for Anna Catherine Wood were held at 11 a.m. May 23, 2002, in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated.
Music included “How Great Thou Art” and “Beyond the Sunset.”
A memorial has been established with the Cumbernauld Village Activities Fund.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
