Grace Kirker
BROWNWOOD, Texas Grace Metz Kirker, 80, of Brownwood, Texas, formerly of Winfield and Wichita, died April 18, 2002, in Bangs, Texas.
She will be cremated.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at White Chapel Cemetery
in Wichita. Hillside Funeral Home East is in charge of arrangements.
Kirker was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Winfield. She married John Samuel Kirker on Sept. 6, 1941.
After her husband's death, she moved to Brownwood from Wichita in July 1995. A son, John Samuel Kirker II, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, James Kirker, Maize; a daughter, Penny Chunn, Brownwood; two sisters, Helen Schuerer and Sue McLaughlin; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Walter Zemp
PAOLA Walter E. Zemp, 77, of Paola, died April 19, 2002, at North Point Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Paola. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson and Son Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl.
Memorials may be made to the church or to Habitat for Humanity.
Zemp was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Ness City, to Sadie (Cranston) and Edward Walter Zemp. He graduated from high school in Ness City in 1942 and later attended Salt City Junior College.
On June 10, 1947, he married Treva Nadine Wilkinson in Winfield.
In 1967 Zemp began working as a fabricator for Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He later transferred to Salina where he retired from Raytheon Corp. in April 1994.
He attended the First Covenant Church in Salina and the Assembly of God Church in Paola.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Zemp, Paola; two sons, Dwight Zemp, Castle Rock, Colo., and Dean Zemp, Garden City; two daughters, Arlene Cromwell, Burnsville, Minn., and Marilyn Roberts, Paola; two sisters, Ann Wilkinson, Ponca City, and Mildred Isbell, Winfield; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Roy Stine
OXFORD Roy O. Stine, 97, of Riverview Manor, Oxford, formerly of Edna, died April 22, 2002, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in North Edna Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30.

Stine was born March 2, 1905, in rural Edna, to Alice (Houck) and Frederick B. Stine. He was raised and educated in the Edna area.
On June 1, 1927, he married Immogene Livingston in Oswego.
Stine was a livestock dealer and worked for packing houses and stockyards in the Coffeyville and Parsons areas for many years. He was a livestock buyer for Coffeyville Packing Co. before retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Modern Woodman and attended the Christian Church in Elm Grove.
Stine and his wife moved to Riverview Manor in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Immogene Stine, Oxford; two sons, Jerry Stine, Winfield, and Dean Stine, Wichita; a sister, Elaine Brown, Edna; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mildred Irvine
OXFORD Mildred Valentine Irvine, 90, of Oxford, formerly of Wellington, died April 19, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellington. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home, 704 N. Washington, Wellington, until 8 tonight.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riverview Manor or Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Irvine was born Feb. 14, 1912. She was a cosmetologist for 30 years.
Survivors include four sons, Bert Irvine, Phoenix, Floyd, Joshua Tree, Calif., Richard, Niangua, Mo., and Christopher, Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters, Wanda, Fountain Valley, Calif., Betty, Wellington, and Margaret, Ramona, Okla.; a brother, Linley Garner, St. Louis; a sister, Bernitta Haskett, Junction City; 23 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara Perkins
HOWARD Barbara (Wildman) Perkins, 63, of Howard, died April 21, 2002, at the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Outdoor memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at her home, six miles west of Howard. In case of inclement weather, they will be in the West Elk High School gymnasium. Heartland Friends Meeting will be in charge of the service. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Earlham School of Religion, the Heartland Friends Meeting Building Fund, Wichita Friends School and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Perkins was born July 23, 1938, in Springfield, Ohio, to Marguerite (Greenawalt) and W. Wendell Wildman. She grew up in the Selma-South Charleston, Ohio, community, where she was active in the Green Plains Friends Meeting, 4-H and Girl Scouts. She attended South Charleston schools and graduated from Westtown (Pa.) School in 1956. In 1960 she graduated from Earlham College where she was active in Young Friends of North America.
On June 11, 1960, she and James R. Perkins were married on the Earlham College campus in Richmond, Ind. She lived the rest of her life in the Howard community where she served as a 4-H leader and was active in the Howard Mothers Club when they raised funds for a swimming pool and tennis courts.
She was a Hospice volunteer coordinator and an active member of the Howard Tuesday Reading Club and the Elk County Cattlewomen's Association. She served her church community at University Friends Meeting and later at Heartland Friends Meeting in Wichita. She also served on the board of advisors of Earlham School of Religion.
When her brother, William W. Wildman, died in 1981, she became manager for the family farm, Mac-O-Chee Farm in Ohio. In 1993 she moved the farm operations to Kansas where she continued her family's 180-year involvement in agriculture.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Perkins, Howard; two sons, David Perkins, Howard, and Mark Perkins, Eureka; a daughter, Elizabeth Hendricks, Howard; and three grandchildren.
Raymond Parsons
ARKANSAS CITY Raymond H. Parsons, 75, of Arkansas City, died April 16, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at 2 p.m. April 18 in Maple City Cemetery. Brother Ralph Stone officiated.
A memorial has been established with Trinity Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Parsons was born Sept. 21, 1926, at Burden, to Dora (Swanson) and Benjamin Parsons. He grew up at Burden where he attended Willow Branch School and graduated from Burden High School.
Parsons operated a dairy farm in the Burden area for many years and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation before he retired.
On May 13, 1977, Parsons married Erma Pappan in Arkansas City where they made their home.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Parsons, Arkansas City; a son, David Parsons; two daughters, Kathy Hensley and Claudia Satterlee; two stepsons, Jack Pappan and Don Pappan; two stepdaughters, Nina Loney and Jeanette Standerfer; a brother, Harley Parsons; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vickie Mount
BURDEN Vickie Kay Mount, 52, of Burden, died April 22, 2002, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials have been established as a USD 462 scholarship and for Burden Rural Fire District 3. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Mount was born Sept 18, 1949, in El Dorado, to Maxine (Calvin) and Forest Watson. She was raised in Latham through junior high school and then attended Atlanta and Burden schools. She graduated from Central of Burden High School in 1967 and from Cowley County Community College with an associate degree.
On May 1, 1971, she married Terry Keith Mount in Atlanta, and they made their home in Burden.
Mount worked at Binney & Smith and at Gott Manufacturing early in her marriage. She then became the city clerk of Burden and held that position for many years. For the past 10 years she was a secretary at SMR Builders in Winfield. She also worked part time at Webber Land Co. and for the Burden schools.
Mount was a member of the Cowley County Cancer Society, the Central booster club and the Parent Teacher Organization.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Mount, Burden; two sons, Mathew Mount, Wichita, and Shawn Mount, Mulvane; a daughter, Randy Carpenter, Burden; her mother, Maxine Watson, Cedar Vale; a brother, Bill Watson, Burden; and eight grandchildren.
Carl Brown
ARKANSAS CITY Carl W. Corky Brown, 84, lifelong resident of Arkansas City, died April 23, 2002, at Presbyterian Manor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Lance Carrithers will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church Emergency Fund and the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Brown was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Arkansas City, to Maggie (Corlette) and Charles Brown. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1935.
On Oct. 4, 1940, he married Paula Ward in Arkansas City.
Brown worked at Powell's Food Locker and the Ready Mix plant in Winfield for several years and then worked at Gordon-Piatt Energy Group until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Brown, Arkansas City; two sons, Carl Wayne Brown Jr., Roswell, N.M., and John Charles Charlie Brown, Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Paula K. Phillips, Las Vegas; a brother, Lewis E. Brown, Arkansas City; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lorena Snider
ARKANSAS CITY Lorena O. Snider, 92, of Arkansas City, died April 25, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Bible Christian Church. The Rev. H. Dean LeVelle will officiate. A private burial will follow. Hawks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Snider was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Galena, to Iva (Francis) and Harry Hurley.
On May 24, 1940, she married Edward Snider in Wichita. They lived in Wichita until moving to Arkansas City in 1981. Snider's husband died in 1990.
A homemaker, Snider was a member of the Bible Christian Church.
Survivors include two nieces, Deloris Maynard and Carlene Popjoy, both of California, and two friends, Helen Renz and Darlene Brown, both of Arkansas City.
