Elizabeth Stukey
WICHITA - Elizabeth Darlene Stukey, 85, retired Binney & Smith employee, of Wichita, died Feb. 17, 2002.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery. Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Stukey was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Gridley, to Elizabeth (Sage) and Lawrence Platt.
On Jan. 16, 1938, she married Cornelius Stukey. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Guy Duane Stukey, Wichita, Arthur Dale Stukey, Hutchinson, and Terry Lee Stukey, Haysville; a brother, L.B. Platt Jr., Virgil; two sisters, Yvonne Stukey, Burlington, and Merlyn "Bill" Bahr, Gridley; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Yvonne Watt
CANBY, Ore. - Yvonne D. Watt, 78, of Canby, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 16, 2002, at a Mount Angel, Ore., care facility.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Zion Memorial Cemetery. Canby Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Watt was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Bandon, Ore. She graduated from Roseburg High School.
In 1945 she married Thomas W. Watt of Winfield, and they resided on a farm near Winfield.
Watt returned to Oregon in 1971 and worked as financial secretary for the First Baptist Church in Portland until she retired. Following retirement, she moved to Canby.
She was a member of the Canby Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda S. Miller and Cynthia D. Kratzer, both of Canby; a son, Thomas D. Watt, Spearfish, S.D.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Della Weston
Della L. Weston, 78, of Winfield, died Feb. 19, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8.
Memorials have been established with Winfield Area Emergency Medical Services, Hospice Care of Kansas and Winfield Rest Haven. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Weston was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Girard, to Anna K. (Stolte) and Albert A. Meyer. She was reared in Girard and attended Walnut Grove Rural School.
On Feb. 27, 1949, she married Gerald R. Weston in Girard. They made their first home near Hepler, then lived in many communities while her husband followed his railroad career. She was a homemaker. In 1963 they moved to Winfield. Her husband died May 30, 1984.
Weston was a resident of Winfield Rest Haven.
She had attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard.
An infant son, Jimmy Dale Weston, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Jo Bailey, Winfield, and Marilyn Sue Booe, El Dorado; a sister, Marie Hill, Girard; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Clara Taton
ARKANSAS CITY - Clara Ella Taton, 94, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 19, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery
at Winfield. The Rev. Lance Carrithers will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Taton was born Oct. 28, 1907, near Akron, to Anna (Ahlerich) and William DeWitt. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1925.
On Aug. 26, 1926, she married Arthur C. Taton in Newkirk, and they made their home in Winfield. In 1930 they moved to Arkansas City. Taton's husband preceded her in death.
A homemaker, Taton was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the women's groups. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Ernest Taton, Arkansas City; two sisters, Marie McDaniel, Rock, and Evelyn McMillin, Manhattan; two grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
Mary Gandolph
ARKANSAS CITY – Services for Mary Elaine Gandolph were held at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 20, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lance Carrithers officiated. Burial was in Parker Cemetery.
Music was “Awesome God,” recorded by Richard Mullins, and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers were Keith Collins, Joe Walker, Randy Walker and Kenny Sultz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the First United Methodist Church through Hawks Funeral Home.
Marian R. Rowe
CAMBRIDGE – Services for Marian R. Rowe were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20, 2002, at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. Dr. John Paulin, the Rev. Fran Broadhurst and Diane Massey officiated. Burial was in Cambridge Cemetery.
Music included “How Great Thou Art” and “Be Still My Soul.” Alberta McChesney was the pianist.
Honorary casket bearers were R.G. Jordan, Amil Lundy, Herb Brunton, Darwin Newton, Donald Harper and Richard Schooley.
Casket bearers were Tim Dwight, Tom Jordan, Neal Jordan, Jeff Walton, Steve Atkins and Duane Vernon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Presbyterian Church.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor Coffey
Services for J. Eleanor Coffey were held at 4 p.m. Feb. 19, 2002, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Music included “Old Rugged Cross” and “I Will Walk With God.”
Casket bearers were Bruce, John and Roger Coffey and Scott Sturm.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
Mildred Martin
Services for Mildred F. Martin were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 19, 2002, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Dr. James McIntosh officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Marilyn Buffum was the organist, and Jeleane Osborn was the vocalist. Music included “Precious Memories” and “Sweet By and By.”
Honorary casket bearers were Jim Littell, Jim Osborn, Jimmy Hiatt, Keith Wood and Bob McLain.
Casket bearers were Tate, Tyler and Tyson Osborn, Chris King, L. Bruce Bowen and Benny Roths.
Howard Horner
AUGUSTA – Howard Nelson Horner Jr., 48, of Augusta, formerly of Udall, died Feb. 17, 2002.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Broadway Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Horner was the owner of Horner's Lawn Service.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel L., Dustin R. and Jordan R.G. Horner, all of Wichita; five daughters, Denise S. Jantz, Courtney N. Horner and Kylie J. Horner, all of Wichita, Bronwyn E. Pappan, Arkansas City, and Stephanie A. McGuire, Udall; his mother, Pauline Horner, Wichita; two brothers, Jerry Horner, Andover, and Dennis Horner, Wichita; a sister, Suzanne Messecar, Wichita; and 10 grandchildren.
Joe Peterson
GROVE, Okla. – Joe Hall Peterson, 78, of Grove, died Feb. 20, 2002, at his home after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta. The Rev. Kim Hays will officiate.
Friends may call at Ellis Family Funeral Home, Grove, from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday and at Dunsford Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Augusta City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 2106 S. Main, Suite 315, Grove, OK 74344.
Peterson was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Atlanta, to Estella Bell (Hall) and Joseph Peterson.
On Feb. 24, 1959, he married Geneva (Strait) Johnson.
Peterson retired from Vickers Petroleum and Herman Oil of Wichita after 20 years of service and moved from Augusta to Grove in 1989.
He was a member of Lake Center Baptist Church in Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Peterson, Grove; two sons, Dennis Peterson, Grove, and Andy Peterson, Loganville, Ga.; four daughters, Cindy Crane, Loganville, Ga., Mary Edson, Grove, Vickie Eaton, Kansas City, Kan., and Karen Corbin, Augusta; a sister, Nadine Brotemarkle, Wichita; 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
