DUGGER, Clarice A. Dugger, 69 years old of Atchison, KS., died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at the Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 25th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Fr. Bertrand LaNoue, O.S. B. officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. A Prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 24th, followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Clarice A. Werth was born on May 30, 1936 in Hays, KS., the daughter of Clem and Agatha (Rupp) Werth. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1952. She attended Atchison Business College studying accounting. She worked as an accountant for the Northeast Kansas Community Action Program or NEK-CAP for 20 years. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Meier Ready Mix Co., Atchison before retiring in 2003. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and enjoyed arts, crafts, quilting, toll painting, reading and the computer. She especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren.
Clarice was married to the late James M, Nunn in 1955. She was later married to William Dugger on August 12, 1985 in Miami, OK., Mr. Dugger survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son; John M. and his wife Tara Nunn, Valley Falls, KS., two daughters; Jolene and her husband Randy Smith, Spring Hill, KS., Jamie Morast, Olathe, KS., three step-sons; Bill Dugger, Jr., San Diego, CA., Steve and his wife Flo Dugger, Atchison, KS., and Martin and his wife Kerry Dugger, Atchison, KS., five step-daughters; Patty and her husband Dennis Collier, Atchison, KS., Becky Dugger, Scotts Bluff, NE., Renae and her husband Rick Vice, Fairmont, NE., Angela Dugger, Atchison, KS., and Belinda and her husband, Michael Voust, Merriam, KS., her mother, Mrs. Agatha Werth, Atchison, KS., two brothers; Claude Werth, Sarasota, FL., and Clem Werth, Pogoso Springs, CO., a sister; Cynthia Cone, Fairview, KS., twenty one grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Her father preceded her in death.
McCULLOUGH, Arlene McCullough, 84 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO.
Graveside services and burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 25th, 2006 at the Pardee Cemetery, with Rev. Don Jewett officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Helen Arlene Thorne was born on December 21, 1921 in Farmington, KS., the daughter of Henry and Eliza (Bailey) Thorne. She attended Farmington grade school, and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1939. Mrs. McCullough worked as a homemaker and housewife. She was a member of the Farmington Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the ladies aid and the church pianist for many years. She was a former member of the Extension Unit, the Happy Hour Club at Pardee for 25 years. She enjoyed playing music at Senior Village, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arlene was married to Alan L. McCullough on Feb. 20, 1947 in Atchison, KS. Mr. McCullough preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2001. Survivors include a son; Wayne and his wife Karen McCullough, Effingham, KS., a daughter; Betty and her husband Ron McBee, Sacramento, CA., two brothers; Robert Thorne, Effingham, KS., and Glen Thorne, Lancaster, KS., four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her parents, five brothers, and 3 sisters also preceded her in death.
MATTHIAS, Lois Helen Matthias, 63, Lancaster, KS passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Medicalodge of Atchison.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 20, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS. with the Rev. Jane Rothman officiating. Burial at Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church and left in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Matthias was born October 5, 1942 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Edwin John and Helen (Lovgren) Otte. She was a graduate of High School, and was employed for a short time with Cray Manor. Lois was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the being outdoors fishing, deer and bird watching, and loved doing genealogy work. She was devoted to her family.
She married George C. Matthias on March 31, 1963 at the First Christian Church in Atchison. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Tracy Erbe and her husband Mike of Altoona, KS. Sons George C. Matthias, Jr. and his wife Shela of Atchison and John Matthias of Atchison. Mother Helen Otte. Grandchildren Laura Erbe, George C. Matthias, III and a step grandson Andrew Allen McBride. Brother Steven Otte and a sister Janice Otte both of Atchison.

FALK, Albert F. Falk, 84 years old, of Effingham, KS. died Friday, March 10, 2006 at his home in Effingham, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 at St. Ann’s Church, Effingham, KS., with Fr. Benjamin Tremmel, O.S.B. as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Ann’s Cemetery, Effingham, KS. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM on Monday, March 13th, 2006, followed by a prayer service and visitation with family until 8:30 PM at the St. Ann’s Church. Effingham, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison County E.M.S. Rescue Unit, the Northeast Kansas Multi-County Home Health and Hospice, or the St. Ann’s Sacristy Fund. Mr. Falk was born on January 27, 1922 in rural Atchison County, Kansas the son of Henry M. and Julia A. (Irsik) Falk. He graduated from ACCHS in 1939. Mr. Falk entered the service in Nov. 1942 and served during WWII in the United States Army, 9th Armored Division, Troop C, 89th Calvary Reconn. He was in 3 major battles, the Battle of Ardennes, the Battle of the Rhineland, and the Battle of Central Europe. Mr. Falk was an armored car driver and had earned a Presidential Citation for extra ordinary Heroism in Military operations against an armed enemy 12-16 to 12-22,1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. He also had crossed the Remagen Bridge before it fell and helped get the 101st Airborne Division out of Bastogne. Mr. Falk was a farmer and stockman, a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau, the St. Ann’s Church, Effingham, KS., and past member of the American Legion Post #58, Effingham, KS. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, trout fishing in the Rocky Mountains, bee keeping, livestock and chickens.
Mr. Falk was married to Leona M. Keimig on Feb. 14, 1950 at St. Benedicts Church, Atchison, KS. Mrs. Falk preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2000. His parents, three brothers also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son: Don and his wife Debbie Falk, Effingham, KS., a daughter, Betty Forney, Denton, KS., two grandchildren Brandi and Colt Forney, and two step grandchildren; Curt Wiedmaier and Lori Peterson.
PICKENS, LaVerna M. Pickens, 92 years old, of Nortonville, KS. died Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville, KS.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS. with Rev. Norma Thompson officiating. The body will be cremated following the service and private family burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service on Wednesday at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville. LaVerna Marion Wilkin was born on Dec. 4, 1913 in Wichita, KS., the daughter of Wyatt C. and Lula M. (Hattan) Wilkin. She attended schools in Burlingame, Abilene, and Kansas City. She graduated from Princeton High School, Princeton, MO., in 1931 and from Chillicothe Business College, in 1933.
She was married to Ewell M. Pickens on Oct. 15, 1932 in Macon County, MO., They lived in Shamrock, OK., and Lefors, TX.. Mr. Pickens preceded her in death on July 18, 1942. Mrs. Pickens then moved to Nortonville with her three children, and lived there the rest of her life. Mrs. Pickens began work for the telephone company in 1947. She later worked as a secretary/teller for the Nortonville Bank until retiring in 1972. She was a former member of the Nortonville Presbyterian Church and later the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Nortonville Garden Club.
Mrs. Pickens is survived by a son; Robert E. and his wife, Sandra Pickens, Troy, MO., two daughters; Patricia J. and her husband John Glidewell, Topeka, and Carolyn E. Prevo, Livermore, CA., nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, a brother; Donald K. Wilkin, and sister, Ellen Holmes also preceded her in death.
BETTS, Thelma Lou Betts, 62 years old, of Muscotah, Kansas died Thurday, March 9, 2006 at the St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hendon from the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, Kansas. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 12th, 2006 from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Thelma Lou Collins was born on October 8, 1943 in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Bomberger) Collins. She attended school at Atchison High School and Atchison County Community High School. She had worked as a Certified Nurses Aid for 20 years in Hiawatha, Kansas. She also worked on a street crew for the City of Atchison, and for a carnival. Thelma enjoyed fishing, camping and the mountains.
She was married to Lloyd Betts in 1968, they were later divorced. Mrs. Betts is survived by a son, James E. Betts and his wife Sheryl of Hiawatha, KS, her father, Henry Collins, of Severance, KS, two brothers; Jeremy Collins, of Severance, KS and Danny Collins, of Everest, KS, a sister, Teena Green, of Salem, NE, three grandchildren, five step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and number of nieces and nephews, and companion Tammie Soden, Hiawatha, KS. She was preceded in death by her mother, two brothers, Jimmy and David Collins, and one sister, Mona Simpson.
LOTT, Elizabeth Christine Lott, 87 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 10th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Pastor Valerian Ahles from St. Mark’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, March 9th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Elizabeth Christine Tschorn was born on Oct. 1, 1918 in Atchison, KS. the daughter of Walter and Ella (Peterson) Tschorn. She attended Franklin grade school and graduated from Atchison High School. Mrs. Lott worked as a telephone operator for 17 years for Southwestern Bell before joining her husband to own and operate the former Jack’s Café in Atchison. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS., was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Junior Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing poker, and bridge and was a member of many card clubs. She also enjoyed sports and especially her grandchildren.
She was married to Melvin C. Lott in August 1941 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Mr. Lott preceded her in death on March 29, 1985. Survivors include a son; Melvin E. “Munchie and his wife Barbara Lott, Weston, Mo., a daughter, Kristin L. “Suzy and her husband Stan Purdy, Atchison, KS. a brother; Walter H. Tschorn, Fairlawn, New Jersey, a sister; Mrs. Doris Tabor, Topeka, KS., eight grandchildren; Emily, Eric, and Erinn Lott, Weston, Mo., and Mickey, Casey and his wife Kristin, Sadie, Roger, and Andy Purdy, of Atchison, KS. a nephews; John and his wife Carrie Tabor and their son Thomas, and nieces Elizabeth Williams, and Amy Tschorn.
