Doyle Foster
GRENOLA -- Doyle Foster, 97, of Grenola, died Jan. 23, 2002, at Elk Valley Manor in Moline.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Cemetery
in Grenola.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Vera gene Geer
Vera gene Geer, 76, registered nurse, of Winfield, died Jan. 23, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. No service is planned.

Geer was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Newell, W.Va., to Ruth S. (Milhone) and Claude E. Mills.
On Dec. 15, 1945, she married Wallace Elliot Geer in Newell.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chester, W.Va.; Delta Theta Tau sorority, Torrance, Calif.; and the First United Methodist Church, Redondo Beach, Calif.
Survivors include her husband, Wally Geer, Winfield; a son, Rickard Sjogren, Malmo, Sweden; two daughters, Claudia Geer, Winfield, and Deborah Tognarelli, Westlake Village, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Ella Bender
Services for Ella Lee Bender were held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 23, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Special music included "Amazing Grace" and "Breath of Heaven" performed by Megan Bender, "In the Garden" and "One More Day."
Honorary casket bearers were Bender's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Steve Beaumont, Roy Corum, Eldon Shear, Randall Watt, Bobby Woody and Joe Zanardi.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House and American Cancer Society.
Charlotte Chandler
SEVERY -- Charlotte Mae Chandler, 83, of Severy, died Jan. 23, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Severy Baptist Church. The Rev. Tony Pameticky will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Chandler was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Halstead, to Malvira and Charles Cummings. She attended Wichita schools and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1935.
On Aug. 11, 1936, she married Harry Clifford Chandler in Wichita. They lived in Wichita until moving to Yates Center in 1947, to Leslie, Ark., in 1949 and later to Zenith, Mo., Pawnee Rock and Great Bend. They returned to Wichita in 1953 and moved in the late 1970s to Mulvane and in 1985 to Severy.
A homemaker, Chandler also worked as a nurse for many years.
She was a member of the Mulvane Christian Church and attended the Severy Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Chandler Sr., Severy; four sons, Harry Chandler Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Jack Chandler, Severy, Jerry Chandler, Fayetteville, Ga., and David Chandler, Wichita; a daughter, Judy Rickard, Wichita; a sister, Charlene Scott, Sweet Home, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
James Foster
GRENOLA -- James Doyle Foster, 97, of Grenola, died Jan. 23, 2002, at Elk Valley Manor in Moline.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Foster was born Oct. 31, 1904, in Japton, Ark., to Allie (Harriman) and Josh Foster.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. Foster was self-employed as a farmer for 40 years.
On June 12, 1945, he married Pauline Wirth.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Foster, Grenola; and a sister, Dovie Bailey.
Kenneth Johnson
MULVANE -- Kenneth W. Johnson, 69, of Mulvane, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 24, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Mortuary in Derby.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Mulvane Public Library.
Johnson worked as a Beech and Boeing machinist and was a former owner of Mid Kansas Machine and Tool. He was retired.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnson, a son, David Johnson, and a daughter, Cari Johnson, all of Mulvane; a brother, Eldon Johnson, Topeka; and a sister, Karen Shieldknight, Coweta, Okla.
Margie Mitchell
HOWARD -- Margie Irene Mitchell, 87, of Howard, died Jan. 24, 2002, at her son's home in Howard.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. Pastor Darrell Spicer will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Howard Independent Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Mitchell was born Aug. 1, 1913, in Severy, to Anna Irene (Gilbert) and George Griffeth Campbell. She graduated from Severy High School.
On Feb. 14, 1933, she married James Elven Mitchell in Fredonia. They lived near Fall River until moving to Severy in 1935. She was employed as one of the first telephone operators in Severy during the early years of their marriage.
In 1946 the Mitchells moved their family to Howard where they founded Mitchell Oil Co. They retired in 1968 and sold the company to their son Nolan before moving to Independence where they lived several years. They returned to Howard in the late 1990s. Her husband died Oct. 18, 1998.
A homemaker, Mitchell was a member of the Severy Cosmos Club, Howard Mothers Club and Howard Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Nolan Mitchell, Howard, and Ray Mitchell, Independence; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Bill Seyler
Services for Bill Dean Seyler were held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25, 2002, in Highland Cemetery. Burl and Robert Abraham officiated.
Honorary casket bearers were Danny Hatfield, Kenneth Czaplinski, Dean Owen, Nelson Bishop and Alan Young.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, 800 Main, Winfield, KS 67156.

Lewis Kuchar
SOUTH HAVEN -- Lewis E. Kuchar, 57, furniture refinisher and owner of L&N Woodcrafts, South Haven, died Jan. 25, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Day Funeral Home Chapel, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington. The Rev. Dr. Gene Hellstern and Chaplain Tom Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Caldwell City Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the South Haven Christian Church, 201 N. Wichita, South Haven, KS 67140, and the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202. Contributions may be sent directly or made through the funeral home.
Kuchar was born April 8, 1944, in Caldwell, to Maudelene C. (Jones) and Lewis J. Kuchar.
On Dec. 20, 1969, he married Nancy Ann Dunn in Wellington.
Kuchar worked for Welco for 17 years, then owned and operated Cliff's Gulf service station from 1970 to 1973. He opened L&N Woodcrafts in 1980 and operated it until his health prevented him from doing so.
Kuchar was a member and trustee of the South Haven Christian Church and a member of the Elks Lodge of Kansas and Sumner Masonic Lodge 203 and the Order of Eastern Star, both of Caldwell.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kuchar, South Haven; two sons, Lewis Kuchar Jr., Winfield, and David Kuchar, Wellington; a daughter, Angela Myers, South Haven; his mother, Maudelene Blass, Arkansas City; a sister, Anna Louise Kucera, Deer Creek, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Catherine Edwards
DEXTER -- Catherine Sue Edwards, 42, of Dexter, died Jan. 26, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established to help with funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Edwards was born Nov. 7, 1959, in Pawhuska, Okla., to Dessie Mae (Pickett) and Alvie Ray Wagoner. When she was a child, the family moved from Grainola, Okla., to Cedar Vale to live on the Aikman ranch. She attended school in Dexter.
On Aug. 13, 1977, she married John Edwards in Sedan. She traveled with her husband following his military career. They moved to Joplin, Mo., in 1983. A few years later, they returned to Dexter, and in 1987 they divorced,
Edwards continued to live in Dexter and later moved to the Drake Ranch, south of Dexter. Her companion, Bob Drake, died April 14, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Henderson, Dexter; her parents, Alvie and Dessie Wagoner, Cedar Vale; her special friend, Jim Vaden, Dexter; and three sisters, Reba Venable, Cedar Vale, and Marilyn Leith and Judy Nelson, both of Winfield.
