Joseph McFall
DEXTER - Joseph L. "Joe" McFall, 65, of Dexter, died Jan. 2, 2002, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dexter Christian Church.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made at the church or funeral home.
Fall was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Kansas City, Kan., to Adra M. (Hawkins) and Lester C. McFall. He was raised and educated in Kansas City and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1954.
On Aug. 18, 1957, he married Alice J. Austin in Bennington. They made their first home in Manhattan where he attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1959 with a degree in agriculture economics.
They moved to Kansas City, Kan., where he was employed as an officer at Westgate State Bank until 1965. He then moved to Dexter and was the president of Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Dexter until 1975. He later became a real estate broker and had been employed by J.P. Weigand Realty in Wichita since 1988.
He was a member of the Dexter Christian Church, served on the Cowley County Community College Board of Trustees for 15 years, and was president of the Wichita Area Certified Commercial Investment Member, the Dexter Christian Church board and the Grouse Valley Manor board.
Survivors include his wife, Alice McFall, Dexter; two sons, Kendall McFall and Scott McFall, both of Manhattan; a daughter, Kimberly Jones, Wichita; his mother, Adra McFall, Dexter; and five grandchildren.
Martin Boss
POWHATTAN - Services for Martin C. Boss, brother of Donna Wollard Sauzek, were held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 29, 2001, at Powhattan Cemetery
in Brown County. The Rev. Stanley Widman officiated. Music was "Amazing Grace."
Memorials have been established with the Oxford Friendship Center and the Oxford First Baptist Church.

Beatrice Hamlin
Beatrice "Bea" Hamlin, 85, of 1702 Poplar, Winfield, died Jan. 2, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Winfield Rest Haven or a charity of the donor's choice.
Hamlin was born Dec. 7, 1916, near Arkansas City, to Eula (Dunn) and Barton F. Mitchell. Raised in Winfield, she graduated from Winfield High School in 1936.
On July 4, 1942, she married Richard Savage. He was killed May 28, 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge, during World War II.
On March 17, 1946, she married Melvin H. Hamlin in Winfield where they made their home.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Christian Church, Queen City Chapter 138 Order of Eastern Star, Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, and American Ex-Prisoners of War Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Hamlin, Winfield; two sons, Dr. Melvin H. Hamlin II, Raleigh, N.C., and Marvin D. Hamlin, Derby; two sisters, Bernice Ivie and Shirley Madison, and two brothers, Warren Mitchell and Travis Mitchell, all of Winfield; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Chad Gibbs
MULVANE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Chadwick Ronald "Chad" Gibbs was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 2002, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mulvane. The Rev. Jim Mainzer officiated.
Burial was in Red Bud Catholic Cemetery
northeast of Udall.
Nancy Krull was the organist, and Bill Meitl was the soloist. Music included "On Eagles' Wings," "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art," " On this Day, O' Beautiful Mother," "In the Garden" and "Song of Farewell."
Honorary casket bearers were Gary Blanc, Rodney DeGarmo, Justin Hull, Ed Vaughan and Ronald Von Bon.
Casket bearers were Josh Adams, Jason Champman, Justin Dawl, Christopher Gibbs, Michael Gibbs, Justin Kelly and LaRance Walker.
A memorial has been established to help the family pay for funeral expenses.

Paul Nellis
DEXTER - Services for Paul Eugene Nellis were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 4, 2002, at the Dexter Christian Church. The Revs. Norman Reeves and Eric Hoover officiated.
Burial was in Dexter Cemetery. Winfield American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military rites.
Pat Muntz was the pianist. Steve Butler performed "If You Could See Me Now," and Ed Shubert performed "On Eagles' Wings." Alan Nellis played trumpet solos of "God Bless America" and "Taps."
Casket bearers were Nellis' grandsons: Dustin Endicott, Kurt Legleiter, Greg Nellis, Jason Nellis, John Sheretts, Clinton Shorter and Kevin Smith.
A memorial has been established with the Dexter Christian Church.

Shirley Reed
CEDAR VALE - Services for Shirley J. Reed were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 3, 2002, at Wheeler Funeral Home. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated. Burial was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Evelyn Upchurch was the organist. Music included "The Old Rugged Cross," "Amazing Grace" and "Softly and Tenderly."
Casket bearers were John Walker, Alan Slane, Sean Myers, Sonny Parker and John Dale.
A memorial has been established with National POMC, 100 E. Eighth, B-41, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
Doris Cox
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Doris C. (Elder) Cox, 88, of Silver Spring, formerly of Douglass, Belle Plaine and Winfield, died Jan. 1, 2002, at Forest Glen Nursing Center in Silver Spring after a short illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Belle Plaine Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church, 124 E. 10th, Belle Plaine, KS 67013, and the American Heart Association, 5375 W. Seventh, Topeka, KS 66606.
Cox was born March 31, 1913, near Douglass, to Vina (Washburn) and Elmer Elder. She was raised in the Douglass area and graduated from Douglass High School in 1931. She attended Butler County College.
In 1938 she married Asa Cox in Newton. They farmed east of Belle Plaine until his death in 1981. She also worked as a linotype operator at the Belle Plaine News for several years.
Cox moved to Winfield in 1981 and to Silver Spring in 1985 to be with her daughter.
Cox was a member of the Jolly Afternoon Club and United Methodist Church of Belle Plaine, the Lunch Bunch at Winfield and the Air Capital Carnival Glass Club.
An infant daughter, Judith Ann, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Rothlauf, Silver Spring, Md., and a sister, Carol Compton, Winfield.
Fern Drennan
DERBY - Fern A. Drennan, 97, formerly of Winfield, retired USD 260 food service employee, died Jan. 5, 2002.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasantview Baptist Church. Burial will be in El Paso Cemetery.
Friends may call at Smith Mortuary until 8 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the Pleasantview Baptist Church.
Drennan was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Drennan, who died in 1981, and by a daughter, Peggy Hilgenberg.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Lusk, Derby; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
