Aldine Carter
CEDAR VALE - Aldine M. Carter, 89, of Cedar Vale, died Nov. 16, 2001, at the Kansas Surgery and Recovery Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Vale Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ozro Falls Cemetery
at Hewins.
Visitation at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale will be until 8 this evening.
A memorial has been established with Peoples Place of Cedar Vale, 609 Cedar, Cedar Vale, KS 67024.
Carter was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Hewins to L.G. and Nancy J. (Carter) Chappel. She attended Hewins area schools and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1930.
On May 23, 1930, she married Earl H. Carter in Cedar Vale. He preceded her in death in 1984.
The couple operated Carter's Grocery Store in Hewins for 50 years. She was also assistant postmaster in Hewins for 25 years. After retiring in 1984, they moved to Cedar Vale.
She was a member of the Hewins Baptist Church and Cedar Vale Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sue Friedel, Andover, and Sandra Steven, Wichita; one sister, Mary Bess Hollinger, Cedar Vale; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Norman Reep
Norman E. Reep, 67, of Winfield, died Nov. 17, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Reep was born Dec. 20, 1933, to John H. and Ruth L. (Tabor) Reep in Chanute and attended schools there. He served with the United States Army 82nd Airborne from 1956 to 1958.
On March 13, 1959, he married Nona Laurie in Miami, Okla.
Reep worked in the plastics department at Binney & Smith for 15 years. He later worked for the Cowley County Sheriff's Department for seven years, retiring in 1995.
Reep attended the Church of the Nazarene and was a member of Elks Lodge 732.
Survivors include his wife, Nona Reep, of the home; two sons, Darren Reep, Augusta, and Aaron Reep, Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Shelley Mahurin, Winfield; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ralph Waite
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Ralph B. Waite, 67, of Broken Arrow, died Nov. 16, 2001, in Oklahoma City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Broken Arrow. The Rev. Wade Markham and Dr. Mark Jetton will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery, Lenapah, Okla., under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the scholarship fund at the World Foundation Quarter Horse Alliance, P.O. Box 1329, Robert Lee, Texas 76945.
Waite was born Oct. 2, 1934, at Winfield to Kenneth and Geneva (Kittelson) Waite. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1952 and from Kansas State University in 1956.
Waite was a self-employed auctioneer and cattle buyer.
On Aug. 14, 1986, he married Bessie Ryel at Elko, Nev. They moved to Broken Arrow in 1995.
Waite was president-elect of the World Foundation Quarter Horse Alliance. He was a member of the Cattle Breeders Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Oklahoma Cattleman Association and Livestock Marketing Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Waite, and his mother, Geneva Waite, both of Broken Arrow; five sons, Buck Waite, Arnett, Okla., Shane Waite, Higgins, Texas, Audie Waite, Canyon, Texas, Jason Walenciak, Coweta, Okla., and Clinton Walenciak, Wooster, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Waite.
Inez Davis
WICHITA - Inez Fern Davis, 89, formerly of Atlanta, died Nov. 15, 2001, at Lakewood Heights Nursing Home in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Atlanta United Methodist Church with burial in Atlanta Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the church.
Davis was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Atlanta to Oscar and Carrie (Martin) Dudeck. She attended Atlanta schools.
On Dec. 25, 1938, she married Edward L. Davis, and they lived at Atlanta. She was a homemaker and employed by the Winfield State Hospital.
Her husband preceded her in death April 16, 2001.
Davis was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and was involved in community organizations.
Survivors include two sons, Duane Davis, Westmoreland, and Stanley Davis, St. Ann, Mo.; two brothers, Raymond Dudeck, Virginia, and Claude Dudeck, Mississippi; and five grandchildren.
A daughter preceded her in death.
Floyd Sweet
HUTCHINSON - Floyd W. "Ju" Sweet, 71, of Hutchinson, died Nov. 16, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
Services were to be held at 11 a.m. today in Elliott Mortuary Chapel with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Willard D. Stafford officiated, and military rites were conducted by the Fort Riley honor guard.
A memorial has been established with American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68.
Sweet was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Grenola to Floyd and Blanche (Morris) Sweet. He graduated from Oseola (Mo.) High School and Hutchinson Community College.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1993. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he retired as command sergeant major.
On Dec. 27, 1950, he married Wilma R. Peery in Bentonville, Ark.
Sweet moved to Hutchinson in 1972 and worked for Underground Vaults and Storage Inc. until retiring as corporate president in 1993. He then was a farmer and stockman.
Sweet was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 and served as vice commander of the 7th District. He was formerly on the board of Kansas Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Survivors include his wife and two sons, John and Bob Sweet, all of Hutchinson; one daughter, Mary Colelazier, Greensburg; three brothers, John and Jim Sweet, both of Grenola, and Dwaine Sweet, Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
James Cole
Services for James J. Cole were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 19, 2001, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. John Horton officiated. Burial was in La Vista Memorial Park, National City, Calif.
Organist was Gwen Lumbert. Music included "Because He Lives," "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden."
Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3533.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Cecil Jennings
ARKANSAS CITY - Cecil Edward Jennings, 64, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 17, 2001, at his residence.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Chambers will officiate.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas and Central Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Jennings was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Arkansas City, to Earl and Mae (Sparks) Jennings. He was educated in Arkansas City.
On July 15, 1956, he married Sharon K. Dempsey in Arkansas City.
Jennings worked for Rodeo Meat Packing Co. for several years and then worked at the General Electric Engine Maintenance Facility at Strother Field as a mechanic until retiring in 1986.
Cecil was a longtime member of Central Christian Church and Crescent Masonic Lodge 133 AF&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Arkansas City; two sons, Steve Jennings, Arkansas City, and Gary Jennings, Wichita; two brothers, Denzel Jennings, Farmington, Mo., and Glenn Jennnings, Denton, Texas; one sister, Gloria Finuf, Winfield; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Froese.
Bonnie Johnson
Services for Bonnie Jean Johnson were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 19, 2001, at Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Louis Mannis and Glen Wilkinson officiated.
Glenda Mannis performed "The Old Rugged Cross," "Amazing Grace," "Precious Memories" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Scotty Allison, Carl Jones, Nathan Killman, Chris Mannis, Roger Moody, Gary Seaburn and Greg Stearns.
A memorial has been established with Trinity Hospice Care in Wichita.
Chansanouk Sengchan
Services for Chansanouk Sengchan were held at 1 p.m. Nov. 17, 2001, at Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Steve Southers officiated. Music included "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden."
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Saysawat Bonthan, Chris Phouthavong, Phouy Sphabmixay and Phetlavanh, Somsanouk and Somsanit Sengchan.
A memorial has been established with Winfield High School's athletic department.
