Amy Webb

ARKANSAS CITY - Amy Ellen Webb, 92, of Arkansas City, died Sept, 21, 2001, at Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Gale Rider will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with Mount Zion Community Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Webb was born April 18, 1909, in Lead Hill, Ark., to Della (Kelly) and William Richardson.

In March 1929 she married James E. Webb in Marion County, Ark. He preceded her in death.

A homemaker, Webb worked part-time at Haslett's Greenhouse. In her early years, she taught school in Arkansas and was a supervisor at a canning factory.

Survivors include two sons, Billy J. Webb and Michael D. Webb, both of Arkansas City; two daughters, Betty Lee Lewis, Quitman, Ark., and Nancy Gayle Charette, Mars Hill, N.C.; a sister, Myrtle Brown, Ottumwa, Iowa; a brother, Jay H. Richardson, Omaha, Ark.; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Gladys Holloway

ARKANSAS CITY - Gladys E. Holloway, 92, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 22, 2001, at Presbyterian Manor after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hawks Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens at 17th and Oliver in Wichita. The Rev. Lance Carrithers will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials have been established with Hospice and Presbyterian Manor. Holloway was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Council Grove, to Edna (Stuck) and Bert Sprague. She attended school in Newkirk.

On Jan. 10, 1943, she married Earl A. Holloway in Wichita. She was employed as a cook at the Hadley School in Wichita until her retirement in 1966. The couple then moved to Arkansas City.

Holloway was a member of the Newkirk Free Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include two sisters, Marcille Moore, San Bernardino, Calif., and Maxine Prather, Arkansas City; and a brother, Jack Sprague, Houston.

Harold Capps

Harold D. Capps, 65, of Winfield, died Sept. 23, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Vernon Cemetery near Atlanta.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Capps was born May 11, 1936, in Buhler, to Uretha (McNett) and Lester Capps. His father was employed by the railroad, so the family lived all over Kansas.

On June 29, 1984, Capps married Linda Zimmerman in Hackney, and they made their home in Winfield. Capps was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Capps, Winfield; a son, Harold Capps, Belle Plaine; five daughters, Teressa Fowler, Stafford, Betty Enright, Osawatomie, Sue Capps, Buffalo, Janice Land, Garner, N.C., and Marie Taylor, Belle Plaine; three brothers, Marvin Capps, Attica, Albert Capps, Hutchinson, and Leroy Capps, St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Helen Bowbay and Brenda Hurst, both of Hutchinson, and Penny Espinoza, Lakin; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jesse Denton

Services for Jesse Elmer Denton were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated.

Duane Denton played guitar and sang "The Prodigal," "Standing on the Promises" and "Blessed Assurance."

Memorials have been established with Olivet Southern Baptist Church and Hospice Care, both of Wichita.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Trapp

Clarence H. Trapp, 87, of 2007 Johnmark Drive, Winfield, died Sept. 25, 2001, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial and military rites will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Trapp was born July 14, 1914, in Lincoln, to Veronica (Schaefer) and Otto Trapp. He was raised in Lincoln and educated at Golden Belt School.

On Sept. 4, 1936, he married Faye White in Lincoln where they made their home. They later moved to Tescott.

On Jan. 28, 1943, Trapp enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was discharged Feb. 16, 1946.

After the war, he and his wife lived in Sarasota, Fla., for about six years and then moved to Wichita. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft Co. in tooling and sheet metal.

The couple later moved to Melbourne, Ark., where he worked as a mechanic and farmer and had various other jobs until 1976.

Trapp retired because of failing health and in 1978 he and his wife moved to Winfield to be close to family.

A son preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Trapp, Winfield, and a sister, Elva Ray, Ellsworth.

Richard Weller

Richard D. Weller Jr., 78, of 1621 Andrews, Winfield, died Sept. 24, 2001, at his home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial and military rites will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 tonight. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Weller was born June 10, 1923, in Northfield Falls, Vt., to Naomi (Boardman) and Richard D. Weller. He was educated in the Northfield Falls area.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1944 and was stationed at Strother Field.

On March 3, 1945, he married Loretta Weger of Winfield. In 1946 they moved to Northfield, and Weller began working at Vermont Hosiery as a dye man. After they returned to Winfield in 1950, Weller worked at Boeing in Wichita in the electrical and experimental department. He retired from Boeing in 1985.

Weller was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Weller, Winfield; three sons, Richard D. Weller III, Winfield, Charlie Weller, Arkansas City, and Chris Weller, Udall; two daughters, Barbara Dunn, Winfield, and Naomi Kampschroeder, Derby; two half-brothers, George Weller and Ronald Weller; a half-sister, Janet Bordeaux; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Hostetter

Lawrence Earl Hostetter, 87, of 1320 Wheat Road, Winfield, died Sept. 26, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Hostetter was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Winfield, to Grace (Hilbert) and Harry D. Hostetter. He was raised and educated in Winfield and worked on the family farm.

On March 13, 1938, he married Neva N. HineGardner in Grenola. They made their first home on a farm near Winfield.

From 1942 to 1945 Hostetter worked as a flour packer at Consolidated Flour Mill in Winfield. He then began employment with the Cowley County Highway Department as a truck driver. He retired as a foreman with the department in 1979.

Hostetter was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Neva Hostetter, Winfield; two sons, Donald Hostetter, El Dorado, Ark., and Dale Hostetter, Winfield; a sister, Freda Rhodes, Danville, Ala.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Daniel Lewallen

Daniel Y. Lewallen, 83, of 1635 John, Winfield, died Sept. 20, 2001, at Winfield Rest Haven.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas, through Miles Funeral Service.

Lewallen was born April 24, 1918, in Walters, Okla., to Effie (Giles) and Thomas Monroe Lewallen. He spent most of his childhood in rural Minco, Okla., and Tuttle, Okla., and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1937.

During World War II he trained as a welder and helped build ships in San Francisco. He later began a construction business and farmed near Tuttle, Okla.

On June 2, 1946, he married Mary Lucille Shipley in Wichita. After they moved to Winfield in 1949, he began working for Kansas Farm Bureau Insurance as the first full-time insurance agent in the state. During the 1960s he was an agent and agency manager for Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. and then for Pyramid Life.

In 1970 he returned to the construction business and built several subdivisions in Independence. Later he built Sonic Drive-Ins in New Mexico, Texas, Kansas and Missouri.

He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church which he served in various lay capacities including elder. He was also a member of Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Lewallen, Winfield; a son, Steve Lewallen, Wichita; two daughters, Marjorie Jump, Kansas City, Mo., and Sheryl Lear, White Cloud; three sisters, Ruby Hartman, Fort Collins, Colo., Oreatha Camp, Denver, and Iva Rodgers, Loveland, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
