Hubert Dobbs
SHREVEPORT, La. - Hubert "Hugh" Dobbs, 71, of Shreveport, formerly of Winfield and Wichita, died July 24, 2001, at Summit Hospital in Shreveport after a lengthy illness.
He had moved to Shreveport in June.
Services were held at 10 a.m. July 30 at Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul S. Mints officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
Dobbs was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Anderson, Mo., to Oleatha Midyett and Luther Dobbs.
On May 22, 1976, he married Melody Walker of Udall. They divorced in 1996.
Dobbs retired from the Wichita State University power plant. As a young man, he had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in California.
A veteran of the Army and the Air Force, Dobbs served in the Korean War.
He was a member of the Catholic faith and the American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Norman Dobbs, Phoenix; a daughter, Vanessa Gaines, Shreveport; his former wife, Melody Dobbs, Winfield; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Charles Hungerford
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Charles R. Hungerford Sr., 64, of Springfield, died July 31, 2001.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Battlefield South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield. The Revs. Don Washam and Scott Temple will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Gideons International.
Hungerford was born June 25, 1937, in Springfield, to Pauline Eunice and Frank Carl Hungerford.
He formerly taught at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield and Gideons International.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ina Hungerford, Springfield; two children, Elizabeth Kuba and Charlie Hungerford; five sisters, Ramona Long, Matilda Weiss, Harriet Hogan, Rose Hungerford and Joyce Clark; three brothers, Gene, Frank and Paul Hungerford; and five grandchildren.
Virginia Snyder
Virginia Lee Snyder, 87, of 1320 Wheat Road, Winfield, died July 30, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home or at the church.
Snyder was born March 20, 1914, in Brainard, to Mary Almiria (Hall) and Joseph Emanuel Miller. She was raised in rural Udall and attended Star Valley School. As a teenager, she worked at a Udall bakery.
She married Claud Heffner in Newkirk, and they made their home in Udall until they divorced.
She later married Wayne Snyder, and they, too, divorced.
Snyder was employed at William Newton Hospital in the food service and laundry departments.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Two sons, Robert Joel Heffner and Steve Clinton Heffner, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a brother, Dee Miller, California; and a sister, Iva Schmidt, Wellington.
Paul Doolittle
PONCA CITY - Paul Lee "Shorty" Doolittle, 43, of Ponca City, died July 27, 2001.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Ponca City. The Rev. Steve Bierly officiated.
The cremains will be scattered at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Good Old Oakie Flying Society airfield at Ponca City. The field is on Pecan, south of Lake Road.
Trout Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Chapman
ARKANSAS CITY - Robert L. Chapman, 80, of Arkansas City, died July 30, 2001, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Parker Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Chapman was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Newkirk, Okla., to Addie Lorinna (Bell) and LeRoy Ervin Chapman. He graduated from Newkirk High School in 1940, then joined the Army and served in World War II.
He married Audrey Callaway, and they later divorced.
In 1954 he married Adda Louise Scruggs in Arkansas City. She died July 1, 1993.
Chapman retired from ADM as an oil field pipe fitter.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Chapman, Arkansas City, and Steven Chapman, Newkirk; two daughters, Patty Hare, Olathe, and Bonnie Nulik, Arkansas City; a brother, Theodore Chapman, Newkirk; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Florence Chambers
WICHITA - Florence Mae "Flossie" Chambers, 95, of Lifecare Center in Wichita, formerly of Wellington, died Aug. 2, 2001, at Lifecare Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oxford Christian Church. The Rev. Danny Ginn will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery
in Wellington.
Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Memorial Chapel in Oxford from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Foundation, 347 S. Laura, Wichita, KS 67211.
Chambers was born Feb. 2, 1906, in Centralia, Wash., to William G. and Pearl Lee (Dickey) Shearer. She attended school in the Tescott area.
In 1923 she married John Richard Lee Chambers in Tescott. He died on Jan. 23, 1990.
A homemaker, Chambers was also an Avon representative for several years in the Enterprise area. She was a member and past president of the Golden-Agers group in Wellington and a 4-H leader in the Enterprise area.
Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Stephan, Kansas City, Kan.; three sons, Ronald Chambers, Geuda Springs, Robert L. Chambers, Newton, and Richard G. Chambers, Valinda, Calif.; and a sister, Velma L. Welsh, Salina.
Fairel Bryce
Services for Nathan "Fairel" Bryce were held at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 3 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Earnest McClure officiated.
Honorary casket bearers were Robert Johndrow, Byron Jones, Francis Glenn, Jim Phillips, Ron Martin, Eric Parsons, David Butler, Donnie Butler, Stanley Topper, Bob Fleenor, Jack Leftwich and Johnny Logsdon.
Casket bearers were Jim Johndrow, Mark Johndrow, Chad Groene, Justin Groene, Ryan Groene, Otis Lynes and Kurtis Bryce.
A memorial has been established with Boys Town of Omaha, Neb.

Agnes Johnson
Services for Agnes (Gardner) Johnson were held at 10 a.m. Aug. 2, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Charlie Hamlin, Mike Higdon, Bill Lee, Rolland Schmidt, Daniel, David and Rodney Smith and Larry Schwintz.
Casket bearers were Bruce Bonewell, Leon Coon, Brian and Larry Kelley, Kenny Rutherford and Butch Seitz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Central Baptist Church or Hospice Inc.
Vera Morgan
Services for Vera F. "Sally" Morgan were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 in Geuda Springs Cemetery. Pastor Dan Wohlenhaus officiated. Music included recordings of "In the Garden," by Brad Paisley, and "When You Come Back Down," by Nickel Creek.
Casket bearers were Art Swanson, Francis Swanson, Richard Swanson, Fred Swanson, Ed Chapman and Monty Miller.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society, Quality Hospice of Cassville, Mo., and the National Audubon Society.
