Joseph Shaff
SEDAN - Joseph Ralph Shaff, 89, of Sedan, died July 4, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Graves-Baird Chapel. Burial will be in Cloverdale Cemetery. The Rev. Dois Nix will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Pleasant Valley Manor Activity Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Shaff was born March 10, 1912, in Cloverdale, to Loma Pauline (Daughtery) and Charley Vanocker Shaff.
He had been a farmer and rancher.
Survivors include a brother, Vance Shaff, Herlong, Calif., and a sister, Dorothy Bohannan, Wichita.
Henry Johnson
UDALL - Henry Johnson, 91, of Udall, died July 1, 2001, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Services were at 2 p.m. July 5 at Miles Funeral Service. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery
west of Winfield.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Johnson was born June 15, 1910, on a farm near Ponca City, to Susan Elizabeth (Land) and Dennis H. Johnson. He was raised in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1928. As a young man he worked on the family farm.
On Feb. 26, 1932, he married Agnes Gardner in Hominy, Okla.
Johnson began employment with Sinclair Oil Co. in 1936, serving as a refinery bulk agent in Oklahoma for 15 years. He retired from Sinclair in 1951 and moved his family to Udall. The Johnsons had farmed in the Winfield area for the past 50 years.
Johnson was a member of Central Baptist Church of Winfield.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Johnson, Udall; a son, Henry Leon Johnson, Winfield; two daughters, Mary Cook, Winfield, and Pat Brewer, Udall; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Donald Bohannon
HEWINS - Services for Donald "Donnie" Bohannon were held at 10 a.m. July 6, 2001, in Ozro Falls Cemetery
at Hewins. The Rev. Leslie Nikkel officiated.
Honorary casket bearers were Ron McConnell, Dirk Johnson, Rob Carroll and John Henning.
Casket bearers were Ryan Bohannon, Max Cummings, Michael Young, Pat Kelley, David Bohannon and Shane Broyles.
A memorial has been established with the Miami Project for Spinal Cord Injury Research.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Finney
Robert L. Finney, 73, of 211 Michigan, Winfield, died July 3, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Private services will be held in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may sign a condolence book on Monday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Finney was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Wilmot, to Alma (Rogers) and Leland G. Finney. He attended rural schools and Winfield High School.
On Feb. 21, 1948, he married Ruby Widener in Newkirk.
Finney was a U.S. Army veteran and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He worked in oil fields as a driller and tool pusher with various oil production companies throughout Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Finney, Winfield; two sons, Robert Finney Jr., Burden, and Lonnie Finney, Winfield; a sister, Pauline Corder, Winfield; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A son, Danny, preceded him in death.
Clara Henderson
NEWTON - Clara Lou Henderson, 75, of Newton, died July 4, 2001, at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Presbyterian Church. Pastor David Keazirian will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory.
Friends may call at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, until 5 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 Sunday.
Memorials have been established with St. Luke Presbyterian Church and Newton Presbyterian Manor.
Henderson was born May 31, 1926, in Sterling, to Anna Jeanetta (Henery) and the Rev. Howard Scott. She graduated from Oklahoma City High School in 1944 and received a bachelor's degree in education from Sterling College in 1948.
From 1948 to 1951 she taught school in Cairo, Egypt. She then completed graduate work at Wichita State University and correspondence through Kansas State University.
She taught English and home economics in high schools in Atlanta, Grenola, Moline and Newton.
On Aug. 5, 1952, she married Eugene E. Henderson in Newton.
She later worked as a receptionist at Axtell Hospital until 1977, then at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita from 1980 to 1984.
Henderson was an active member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church, a volunteer for the Apple-A-Day Preschool and a member and former president of Church Women United of Newton. She was a past member of the Sweet Adelines of Valley Center and RSVP of Newton and a former 4-H leader in Cowley County.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene E. Henderson, a son, Roger S. Henderson, and two daughters, Anita J. Koehn and Charlene S. Berg, all of Newton; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Henry Johnson
Services for John Henry Johnson were held at 2 p.m. July 5, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Mike Higdon, Bill Lee, Roland Schmidt, Daniel, David and Rodney Smith and Larry Schwintz.
Casket bearers were Bruce Bonewell, Leon Coon, Brian Kelley, Larry Kelley, Kenny Rutherford and Butch Seitz.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Hospice Inc.
Mary Lefler
Services for Mary E. Lefler were held at 1 p.m. July 5, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Graniero officiated.
Casket bearers were Paul Doolittle, Steve Hall, Jim Brister, Ben Holman, Wayne Rush and Lee Evans.

Mildred Luney
Mildred Morgan Luney, 95, of Winfield, died July 5, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Gentry, Ark., cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.

Luney was born Feb. 19, 1906, in Grandin, Mo., to Saphronia (Carnahan) and James B. Aubuchon. Raised and educated in Missouri, she completed her high school education in Magna City.
On May 21, 1927, she married Truman H. Morgan in El Dorado, and they made their first home in Bloomington. They moved to Winfield in 1930, and Luney was employed as a psychiatric aide at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
The Morgans moved to a farm near Exeter, Mo., in 1954 and later resided in Cassville, Mo. Her husband died June 8, 1968.
In June 1970 she married Floyd Luney of Monett, Mo., and they lived in Cassville throughout their marriage. Her husband died Sept. 27, 1979.
Luney moved to Cumbernauld Village in 1991 and had resided at Good Samaritan Village since 1992.
A member of the Cassville Christian Church, she was also affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Cassville.
A son, Don Morgan, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Dean Morgan, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Marjorie Rixon, Wichita; two brothers, Tom Aubuchon and Clyde Aubuchon, and a sister, Eva Frans, all of Augusta; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Patricia McDaniel
Services for Patricia Jane McDaniel were held at 10:30 a.m. July 5, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. Joe Perrigo officiated.
A tuba solo, "A Loving Tribute to My Wife," was performed by John McDaniel.
Honorary casket bearers were Willard Bodkins and Dean Cook.
Casket bearers were Wayne Bodkins, Thomas Brown, Melvin McDaniel, Joe Perrigo, Kenneth Ward, Michael Williams and J.D. Witham.
Memorials have been established with Cowley County Safe Homes and the Cowley County Humane Society.
