Rose Hyatt
DALLAS - Rose Naomi Hyatt, 84, of Dallas, formerly of Wellington, died May 22, 2001, in Dallas.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Prairie Lawn Cemetery
in Wellington. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent to P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, TX 75358.
Hyatt was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Wellington, to Maude N. (Renn) and Robert W. Rothrock. She graduated from Wellington High School and attended Kansas State University.
She was a member of the North Minster Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
Her husband, Albert M. Hyatt, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two nephews, Renn Rothrock Jr. and Michael Davis, and a niece, Debra Spears.
Eloise Allen
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - D. Eloise Allen, 83, formerly of Wichita, died May 21, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Champaign.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ninnescah Cemetery
at Udall.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
Allen was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Toronto, to Gladys J. (Lovett) and Leonard E. Schaaf. She was raised and educated in Toronto and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1934. After high school she attended secretarial college in Wichita.
In December 1942 she married Gerald R. Allen in Wichita. During World War II, she was employed by Derby Oil Co. She and her husband lived in Wichita, Denver and Buffalo, N.Y. After retirement in 1974 they moved to Augusta. Her husband died in 1983.
Allen returned to Wichita in 1988 and resided at Twin Lakes Apartments. Due to failing health, she recently moved to Illinois to be close to her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Elise Schmidt, St. Joseph, Ill., and Emily Martinez, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; and five granddaughters.
Robert Jay
ARKANSAS CITY - Robert M. Jay, 84, of Arkansas City, died May 25, 2001, at the Presbyterian Health Care Unit in Arkansas City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Danny and Joyce Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church of Arkansas City and Hospice Care of Kansas.
Jay was born July 5, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., to Margaret (Swisher) and Russell Jay. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1937 and married Helen Virginia Goff in 1939. He later graduated from The Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis.
Jay held positions with Shellabarger Mill & Elevator Co., Salina, and New Era Milling Co. and Kanotex Refining Co., both of Arkansas City. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Jay joined Union State Bank and later was the business manager for Meek-Stensaas Clinic.
In 1959 he became personnel director of Mauer-Neuer Packing Co. and shortly after was made division manager of personnel and industrial relations for John Morrell & Co. with duties in Kansas City and Arkansas City. Jay rejoined Union State Bank in 1967 as vice president and director and retired from the bank in 1981 as senior vice president and director.
Jay served as city commissioner and mayor for two terms. He served as president of the Rotary Club, as trustee and elder of the Presbyterian Church, on the Arkansas City Country Club Board of Directors and on the advisory committee at Presbyterian Manor. Gov. Robert Docking appointed him to the Kansas Health Coordinating Council. He was also the Sunday school superintendent of the Presbyterian Church and adjutant and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jay, and a son, Steve Jay, both of Arkansas City; and two grandchildren.
Earl McFarland
HOWARD - Earl Joseph McFarland, 93, a resident of Howard, died May 24, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. Pastor Marty Dewitt will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
McFarland was born Feb. 5, 1908, at Oak Valley in Elk County, to Iva May (Fisher) and Harry Earl McFarland. He attended Elk Falls Grammar School and graduated from Elk Falls High School in 1925. He was the oldest Elk Falls graduate before his death.
On May 18, 1927, he married Mattie Estel Riller in Sedan. They had been married for 71 years when she died June 21, 1998.
McFarland worked at Union Stock Yards in Wichita until 1929, then worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. He started as a service station attendant and then worked in the warehouse. After learning the business, he was promoted to accountant and then to division marketing manager. In 1961, when the Phillips office in Wichita closed, he was transferred to Kansas City, Mo., where he completed more than 40 years of service.
In 1969 he and his wife moved to Howard.
McFarland joined the Bester G. Brown Masonic Lodge 433 in Wichita in 1946 and later transferred to Hope Masonic Lodge in Howard. In 1996 he received his 50-year pin.
Survivors include a daughter, Edna Ruth Chapman, Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Lillian Diklich
FALL RIVER - Lillian Grace Diklich, 82, of Fall River, died May 25, 2001, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fall River United Methodist Church. Pastor Charlotte Coates will officiate. Burial will be in Twin Grove Cemetery
at Severy.

Diklich was born Dec. 9, 1918, north of Fall River, to Grace Dell (Palmer) and Lewis Jeffrey Bertenshaw. Her mother died shortly after her birth, so as a young child, she lived in Severy with her grandmother, Dora Barger Palmer. She then lived at Fall River with her father and grandfather, Edward Bertenshaw, and then with her father and stepmother, Amy Pennebaker Bertenshaw. She graduated from Fall River Rural High School in 1936.
After teaching school for one year at Union Valley Rural School and attending the Chillicothe School of Business and Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, she was employed for three years at what is now the United States Department of Agriculture in Manhattan.
There she met U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Donald Diklich, whom she married on Aug. 8, 1942, in Indianapolis. At the end of World War II, the couple returned to Fall River to begin farming on land that had been in her family for four generations.
Diklich was a member of the Fall River Junior Advance Club, the Fredonia Women's Chorale and the Fredonia Bowling Club. She had served on the Fall River school board and as a member and officer of other organizations.
In later life she was employed at the First State Bank in Fall River. She also taught piano for more than 30 years.
A member of the Fall River United Methodist Church, she served as its organist and pianist for 50 years.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Diklich, Fall River; a son, Richard Lewis Diklich, Liberty, Mo.; three daughters, Alleen Sara Castellani VanBebber, Overland Park, Kitty Grace Shinkle, Mulvane, and Neva Ann Diklich, Fall River; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Sarah Cravens
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Sarah Lou Cravens, 76, of San Antonio, died May 26, 2001, at San Antonio Methodist Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Wilmot Cemetery
northeast of Winfield.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service.
Cravens was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Batesville, Texas, to Alta Sarah (Throckmorton) and Huber J. King. She was raised in Texas.
On Sept. 22, 1940, she married Harrell D. Campbell, and they made their home in Texas. In 1944 the family moved to Winfield.
On July 22, 1950, she married Harold L. Cravens. Following his Navy career, they lived in various places, including Japan, Alaska, California and Oregon. After retirement, they lived in Kansas, Maryland and Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Cravens, San Antonio; two sons, Tom Campbell, Sherman, Texas, and Paul Cravens, Austin, Texas; a daughter, Dawn Cravens, Tamarac, Fla.; four brothers, Robert J. King, New Caney, Texas, Berwin King and David King, both of Winfield, and Dan King, Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Delia Kennedy, Atlanta; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Kathleen, preceded her in death.
Mary Whitaker
WICHITA - Mary Stella Whitaker, 86, of Wichita, died May 28, 2001.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Broadway Mortuary Chapel.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Whitaker was a former employee of Globe Oil and Wheeler, Kelly, Hagny Investment Co. She retired from Evans Co.
She had been a volunteer at Wesley Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Converse Drennan, Winfield; two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
Maurita Day
Maurita Orr Day, 97, of Winfield, formerly of Braman, Okla., died May 26, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell. Chad Knappier will officiate. Burial will be in Braman Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Rest Haven Activity Fund, 1611 Ritchie, Winfield, KS 67156.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
Day was born Nov. 2, 1903, east of Braman in Indian Territory, to Alice (Graves) and William Orr. She was a young girl when the family moved into Braman where she attended schools. She finished her education in Blackwell and earned a teacher's certificate, graduating with the class of 1922. She then taught at the Dilworth country school.
On April 3, 1926, she married Elba Fred Day in Winfield, and they farmed and ran a dairy north of Braman. In 1950 they moved into Braman. Day's husband died in November 1984.
Day remained in Braman until May 1996 when she moved to Winfield Rest Haven.
She was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ and the Jolly Housewives Club.
Survivors include a son, Milo Day, Braman; a daughter, Elvena Forbeck, Geuda Springs; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
