Vera Flowers
Vera M. Flowers, 87, of Winfield, died May 20, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 5 this evening.
Flowers was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Dodge City, to Zula Lee (Eyman) and William Earl Youst. She attended schools in St. John and graduated from high school in Kansas City, Mo. Then she moved to El Dorado and went to work for Graves Drug Store.
On Aug. 2, 1933, she married Roy Denzil Flowers, and they lived in El Dorado. In 1941 they moved to Houston. She was employed at Sakowitz Bros. and Foley's department stores as a sales associate.
Following retirement in 1978, the couple moved to Winfield. Her husband died May 7, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Leigh Craig Flowers, and a daughter, Ro-Jean Smith, both of Houston; a brother, Bernard Youst, Pahrump, Nev.; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
A daughter, Karen Kay Flowers, preceded her in death.
David Triplett
LEAVENWORTH - David E. Triplett, 49, of Leavenworth, former longtime resident of Winfield, died May 19, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Center in Leavenworth.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
Triplett was born Nov. 3, 1951, at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., to Betty Joanna (Hamon) and Donald Dean Triplett. He was raised in Winfield, Arkansas City, Ponca City, Manitou Springs, Colo., and Mountain View, Calif., and graduated from Winfield High School. He later attended Cowley County Community College, Southwestern College and Kaw Valley Vocational-Technical School.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Triplett served with the U.S. Navy and earned the rank of E-3.
He was employed in farming and worked for many Winfield area businesses before moving to the Veterans Administration Center due to declining health.
Affiliated with the Tisdale United Methodist Church, he was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation and had been a member of the Walnut Valley Association.
Survivors include his mother, Joan Andes, and a sister, Belinda J. Turner, both of Winfield.
Louise Sanders
LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Louise Sanders, 83, of Lynnwood, formerly of Akron, died May 20, 2001, at Riverside Health Systems in Wichita.
A memorial service will be held Friday in Lynnwood. Broadway Mortuary in Wichita was in charge of local arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Sanders was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Akron, to Annie and William DeWitt. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1936. In 1942 she married Adrian Sanders of Winfield. He died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Mark Sanders, Mill Creek, Wash.; three sisters, Evelyn McMillen, Manhattan, Clara Taton, Arkansas City, and Marie McDaniel, Rock; and two grandchildren.
Her twin sister, Lucille Donham, died in 1978.
Helen Mattingly
LEROY - Helen E. Mattingly, 91, of LeRoy, the oldest active funeral director in Kansas, died May 22, 2001, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mattingly Funeral Home in LeRoy. Burial will be in Logue Cemetery
east of LeRoy.
Memorials have been established with the Shriners Children's Hospitals and St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
Mattingly was born Jan. 2, 1910, in Kirksville, Mo., to Goldina (Haas) and Dr. Thomas E. Hastings. She was raised and educated in Monett, Mo., and graduated from high school in 1928. She attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield for a year, then moved with her family to Osawatomie.
On Dec. 29, 1935, she married Don E. Mattingly. They moved to LeRoy in 1939 and operated a funeral home there. She continued to operate the funeral home following his death in 1990.
Mattingly was a member of the LeRoy United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of many other civic organizations.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. L.L. Mattingly, Orange Park, Fla., and Ned Mattingly, Winfield; a daughter, Karen Nichols, and a sister, Betty Vohs, both of Denver; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mildred Giger
ARKANSAS CITY - Mildred Irene Giger, 81, of Arkansas City, died May 24, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Horsley will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the church and the National Parkinson Foundation. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Giger was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Morrison, Okla., to Sara Myrtle (Jones) and Albert Pierce Clark. She graduated from high school in Morrison in 1937.
On March 3, 1938, she married O.P. "Joby" Giger in Shawnee, Okla.
Giger worked for Woolworth's and later for Southwestern Bell, both in Stillwater, Okla. She transferred to Pampa, Texas, and finally to Amarillo, Texas, where she retired in 1979.
She and her husband moved to Arkansas City in 1980.
Giger was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church and Southwestern Bell Pioneers.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Joby Giger, in 1989, and a son, Ronald J. Giger, in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Merylene Wentworth, Geuda Springs; a sister, Elnora Sappington, Morrison, Okla.; a brother, Edgar Jack Clark, Ponca City; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Paul Bazil
Paul Ellis Bazil, 2-month-old son of Nickie Cheslic and Derek Bazil of Winfield, died May 24, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Foundation.
Paul was born March 15, 2001, in Winfield.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Jim and Louise Cheslic, Burlington, and Brett and Ann Bazil, Winfield; and great-grandparents, George and Betty Bazil, Winfield, and Aida Cheslic, Alva, Okla.
Hazel Mickey
WICHITA - Hazel Edna Mickey, 98, of Wichita, retired Veterans Administration Medical Center seamstress, died May 24, 2001.
Services were set for 3 p.m. today in Kechi Cemetery
and 9 a.m. Saturday at Cochran Mortuary.
A memorial has been established with Woodland United Methodist Church, 1100 W. 15th, Wichita, KS 67203.
Mickey's parents were Jessie and John Marshall.
Her husband, Thomas E. Mickey, two sons, Lawrence Mickey and Truman Mickey, and two daughters, Lila Jones and Darlene Gillette, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Mickey, Wichita; two daughters, Esther Hull, Winfield, and Winona Rogers, Fayetteville, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
Jerry Trullinger
OXFORD - Jerry Don Trullinger, 48, of Oxford, assistant director of buildings and grounds at Wellington High School, died May 23, 2001, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Oxford. The Rev. David Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Day Funeral Home, Wellington, from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
A memorial has been established with the City of Oxford Recreation Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Trullinger was born June 20, 1952, in Hawthorne, Calif., to Ruby (Ledford) and Richard Trullinger.
On Aug. 31, 1979, he and Lona Marie Holman were married in Las Vegas.
He was a member of Slate Valley Baptist Church and served as Sunday school superintendent there.
For 40 of his 48 years, Trullinger either played or coached baseball. He coached teams from T-Ball to semiprofessional baseball and soccer.
Survivors include his wife, Lona Marie Trullinger, Oxford; four sons, Kevin Evers, Israel, Douglas Evers, Lawrence, and Jeffrey Todd Trullinger and Mark Ryan Trullinger, both of Oxford; a daughter, Tracy Banning, Brea, Calif.; three brothers, Terry Trullinger, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., S.L. Trullinger, Springdale, Ark., and Gary Trullinger, Iowa; a sister, Jackie Fagan, Omaha, Neb.; and one granddaughter.

Services for Vera M. Flowers were at 1 p.m. May 24, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Handle officiated.
Special music included "Wind Beneath My Wings," "Amazing Grace" and "Remember Me," performed by Rick Schiff on the keyboard.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
