Mable Corle
MOLINE - Mable Marie Corle, 76, of Moline, died April 20, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services were at 2 p.m. April 23 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery
in Grenola.
Memorials have been established with Elk Manor Nursing Home and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Corle was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Grenola to Mary Eva (Vickery) and Samuel Sweet. She graduated from Grenola High School in 1943.
On Nov. 14, 1945, she married Billy Van Corle.
Corle was employed by Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher in Oklahoma and Kansas. In 1956 she was transferred to Burden where she worked as an agent. She was transferred to Moline in 1974 and worked until becoming disabled in an accident. She retired from the company after 31 years of service.
Corle was a member of the Moline Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Corle, Winfield; three daughters, Dorothy Whiterock, Winfield, Barbara VanRoyen, Moline, and Billie Jo Amirifar, Yazd, Iran; a brother, Raymond Sweet, Topeka; two sisters, Evelyn Futhey, Grenola, and Shirley Gillespie, Moline; seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Lawrence Doughty
DOUGLASS - Lawrence Edward Doughty, 46, of Douglass, died April 19, 2001.
The Rosary will be said at 7 tonight at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Derby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at St. Mary's. DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Derby, 1410 N. Woodlawn, Derby, KS 67037.
Doughty was an environmental chemist for Western Resources Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Doughty, Douglass; a son, Jeremy Doughty, Wichita; and two brothers, Dale Doughty, Mulvane, and Gene Doughty, Fairview, Mo.
George Kreidler
UDALL - George A. Kreidler Sr., 94, of Udall, died April 20, 2001.
The Rosary will be said tonight at 7 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mulvane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at St. Michael's. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery
with full military honors provided by an honor guard from Fort Riley.
Friends may call at Senter-Smith Mortuary , 501 S.E. Louis Boulevard, Mulvane, until 5 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the St. Michael's building fund.
Kreidler was born Sept. 9, 1906, in Stuttgart, Ark., to Anna (Glossen) and Andrew Kreidler.
At the age of 37, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and attained the rank of sergeant while serving as an air frame and power plant mechanic during World War II.
On April 17, 1943, he married Elva Hudson.
A retired farmer, Kreidler was a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was active in the Legion of Mary, a 77-year member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard of the Bishop Mark K. Carroll Assembly. He was also a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elva Kreidler, Udall; five sons, George A. Kreidler Jr., Colwich, Stephen Kreidler, Sarasota, Fla., Phillip Kreidler, Geuda Springs, Christopher Kreidler, Arkansas City, and Matthew Kreidler, Udall; four daughters, Beverly Steiner, Augusta, Mary Fleming, Oxford, Cecelia Kreidler, Kansas City, Mo., and Margaret Hanley, Moscow, Idaho; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Muriella Stacy
VERA, Okla. - Muriella Joann Stacy, 67, of Vera, died April 20, 2001, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Stacy was born May 26, 1933, in Winfield, to Pearl (Marshall) and Meryl Layton. She was raised and educated in the Grainola area and graduated from high school in 1941.
She married Charles H. Stacy. He preceded her in death.
A homemaker, she was also the owner and operator of the Hilltop Cafe in Cedar Vale from 1970 to 1980. She moved to Vera in 1985.
Survivors include four sons, James Filtingberger, Adrian, Mo., Steve Filtingberger, Sedan, and Charles Filtingberger and Joseph Filtingberger, both of Cedar Vale; two daughters, Teresa A. Stout, Winfield, and Kathy Sue Stacy, Vera; her companion, Kenneth Clifton, Vera; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Marvin Mills
ALTADENA, Calif. - Marvin Mills, 72, of Altadena, formerly of Arkansas City, died April 17, 2001.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held April 20 in Altadena.
Mills was born July 12, 1928, in Arkansas City, to Daisy (Palmer) and L.W. Mills.
In July 1948 he married Doris Franklin. They spent most of their married lives in Pasadena, Calif., where he worked as a mechanic. His wife died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Wesley Mills, and two daughters, Cynthia Hathaway and Cheryl Mills, all of Altadena; and a sister, Joyce Barkus, Winfield.
Joseph Swartz
EMPORIA - Joseph B. Swartz, 97, of Emporia, formerly of Winfield, died April 22, 2001.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and inurnment will be held later in Concord Cemetery, Meno, Okla.

Swartz was born Nov. 20, 1903, near Meno, in Oklahoma Territory, to Mary Elizabeth (Bitner) and William L. Swartz.
On Nov. 2, 1930, he married Ethelyn Beswick in Winfield.
Swartz, who was involved in education and insurance sales in Kansas from 1928 until the late 1950s, held degrees from Southwestern College and the University of Denver. He served as a school administrator at Bushong, Allen, Old Strawn, Burdette and Elkhart before moving to Topeka where he was in the insurance business.
Swartz moved to Phoenix in 1960, then to Fruita, Colo., where he was in the real estate business. In 1976 he retired and returned to the Midwest, living in Newkirk, Winfield and Wichita before moving to Emporia in 1996.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Presbyterian Church.
His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Katrina Douthit, Emporia; a son, Charles J. Swartz, Ponca City; a brother, George Swartz, Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Vena Dudeck
ATLANTA - Vena E. Dudeck, 85, longtime resident of Atlanta, died April 24, 2001, at Augusta Regional Medical Center Long-Term Care Facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery. Smith Mortuary of Derby is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the church.
Dudeck was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Leon, to Mary (Easley) and Oscar Spivey.
On Nov. 11, 1933, she married Forrest Dudeck in Atlanta. He died June 23, 1994.
She married Ed Travis, and they later divorced.
Dudeck was a physical therapist at St. Mary's Hospital in Winfield.
Survivors include a son, Keith Dudeck, Wichita; two brothers, Max Spivey, Rogers, Ark., and Kenneth Spivey, Leon; a sister, Faye Dutton, El Dorado; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Doris Mayo, died in 1983.
Sherri Clift
Sherri A. Clift, 38, lifelong resident of Winfield, died of a sudden illness April 24, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 tonight. The casket will be closed, but a register book will be available to sign from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Clift was born Nov. 25, 1962, in Winfield, to Rosemary (Huntington) and Roy E. "Gene" Thurber. She was raised in Winfield and received her high school diploma here.
She worked for Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and later for Creative Community Living for three years. At the time of her death, she was employed by Southwind Community Alternatives.
Survivors include a son, Nathan Clift, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Anna Clift, Winfield; her father, Gene Thurber, Winfield; and a brother, Kevin Thurber, Arkansas City.
