Flora Booth
Services for Flora J. (Hankins) Booth were held at 2 p.m. April 12, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Diane Massey and Fran Broadhurst officiated. Burial was in Cambridge Cemetery.
Special music included "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Honorary casket bearers were Stanley Asbury, Richard Schooley, Floyd Smith and Carl Hawley.
Casket bearers were Herbert Brunton, Mike Ensley, Armand Hillier, Barney Lundy, Neil Watt and Randall Watt.
Memorials have been established with the Cambridge Senior Citizens Center and the Cambridge Presbyterian Church.
Fern Brougher
HOWARD - Fern Walter Brougher, 98, of Howard, died April 12, 2001, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Grace Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate.
A memorial has been established with Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Brougher was born May 7, 1902, at Whiting, to Fanny Esther (Stewart) and Harve S. Brougher. His family moved to Greenwood County when he was four years old and later to a farm near Howard where he attended school.
On Dec. 22, 1927, he married Thelma Louise Hon in Greenwood County. They made their home on a farm northwest of Howard until moving to a farm northeast of Moline in 1953. They moved into Moline in 1975 and later moved to Howard where they resided for 10 years. They lived at Cottonwood Point Retirement Home in Augusta before moving to Howard Twilight Manor in April 2000. His wife died in December 2000.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Brougher, Eureka; two daughters, Betty Bolt, El Dorado, and Barbara Gaffney, Augusta; two sisters, Maxine Ronsick, Wichita, and Helen Braden, Eureka; and three grandchildren.
Fuzz Hale
ARKANSAS CITY - Services for G.W. "Fuzz" Hale were held at 10:30 a.m. March 30, 2001, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Buddy Cook officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.
Cheryl Shelton was the pianist, and Kimberly Hale was the vocalist. Music included "Amazing Grace," "Because You Loved Me," "He Walked on Water" and "The Dance."
Hale's four grandsons, Jimmy, Chris and Jeremy Overall and Nathan Hale, said a special good-bye.
Honorary casket bearers were Howard Dennett, Dale Smith and Dave Bellew. Casket bearers were Richard Wilson, Jake Stockton, Bill Wilson, Bobby Suttles, Kevin Potts and Don Sefers.
Georgia Haskins
Georgia Pearl Haskins, 82, of 601 E. 14th, Winfield, died April 12, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery
west of Winfield.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Haskins was born March 24, 1919, near Udall, to Jennie (Buckles) and George Fruits. She was raised and educated in the Udall area. The family moved to Winfield in 1936. After her father died in 1937, she lived with her sisters, Esta Wise and Ethel Randall, and helped with their families.
On Jan. 31, 1939, she married Clyde Henry Haskins in Newkirk. They made their home in Wichita. After World War II they moved to Oregon for a short time, then returned to Wichita. She was employed at McDonald's department store and Fred Ablah, a dry goods store.
After her husband died in 1984, she moved to Winfield.
Survivors include a son, Richard Haskins, Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Jack Fruits, Winfield, and Benjamin Marshall, New Port Richey, Fla.; and two grandsons.
Clara Murphy
Services for Clara B. Sutton Murphy were held at 2:30 p.m. April 13 in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Special music was "Ave Maria" and "Whispering Hope."
Casket bearers were Gary Butler, Bill Davis, Harry Evans, Ernest Hensley, Lee Roy Russell and Keith Wood.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
Harold Krug
Services for Harold A. Krug were held at 10 a.m. April 13 at Burden United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sheila Ratzlaff officiated. Burial was in Atlanta Cemetery.
Barbara Shively was the organist. Sue Simmons sang "One Day at a Time" and "He Lives."
Honorary casket bearers were John Brewer, Warren Hahn, Carty Hopper, Jim Lundy, Leroy Osborn, Ed Schauf and Larry Yarbrough.
Casket bearers were Frank Alsip, Aaron Krug, Heni Krug, Jamie Krug, J.W. "Jon" Krug, Tim Krug, Tom Krug, Ty Krug and Daniel Schnurr.
A memorial has been established with Burden United Methodist Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Estelle Gottlob
ARKANSAS CITY - Estelle H. Gottlob, 87, of Arkansas City, died April 13, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Tannehill Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Salesian Missions and the Red Cloud Indian School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Gottlob was born Jan. 29, 1914, to Millie (Talley) and Walter Hamilton in Beaudry, Ark., near Hot Springs. At an early age, she moved with her family to the Kaw City area. The family later moved to Arkansas City where she graduated from high school as salutatorian. She continued her education at Emporia State University and eventually received her master's degree from Southwestern College in Winfield.
On Oct. 26, 1935, she married Clyde Gottlob in Newton, and they made their home in the Hackney area.
She taught school in rural Arkansas City and Winfield schools before moving into Arkansas City in 1958. She taught at the junior high and then 10th grade at the high school beginning in 1960. After retirement, she substituted in the school system and tutored Vietnamese children in Arkansas City.
She was affiliated with the First Church of Christ Scientist and the Human Resources Board and was a former sponsor for the high school usherettes.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Gottlob, Arkansas City; three sons, Cliff Gottlob, Arkansas City, and Tony Gottlob and Kirke Gottlob, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Jeri Hinkle, Wichita, and Janet Riebold, Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Rose Blakey, Wichita; and two grandsons.
An infant son, David L. Gottlob, and an infant daughter, Mary C. Gottlob, preceded her in death.
Grace Smith
BURDEN - Grace Manly Smith, 91, of Burden, died April 14, 2001, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Burden United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight until 7 at Wheeler Funeral Home of Burden.
A memorial is established with Burden United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Smith was born June 1, 1909, near Ashton, to Oliver (Farran) and Alonzo Manly. In the 1920s the family moved to Atlanta where she attended Omnia School and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1929.
On Feb. 26, 1930, she married Roy D. Smith in Winfield. They lived on a farm southwest of Atlanta for 14 years, then moved near Burden in 1944. Mr. Smith died June 12, 1971.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Burden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and a farm unit.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Watt, Cambridge, and Marjorie Bryan, Hennessey, Okla; six grandchildren and 13 great -grandchildren.
Margaret Smith
DERBY - Margaret Louise Smith, 90, of Derby, formerly of Douglass, Rose Hill and Mulvane, died April 14, 2001, in Wichita.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Richland Cemetery
near Douglass. The Rev. Keith Cross will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through Smith Mortuary.
Smith was born May 17, 1910, in Richland Township, Butler County, to Grace (Snellbaker) and Samuel Shaffer.
On Feb. 19, 1937, she married Charles Austin Smith in Douglass. He died in 1996.
A farm wife and homemaker, she worked as a cook's helper at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Mulvane for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. Smith, Golden, Colo., and Charles Steven Smith, Wichita; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
