Margie Smith
SEDAN - Gladys Marguerite "Margie" Smith, 91, of Sedan, died April 10, 2001, at Medicalodge of Wichita.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. The Rev. Richard Kinson will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Medicalodge of Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Smith was born Sept. 25, 1909, in London, England, to Catherine Amelia (Kiff) and Frederick William Barwell. She graduated from high school and attended college in London.
On Sept. 25, 1945, she married Walter Elias Smith in Brighton, England, and they moved to Nova Scotia, Canada. In 1962 they moved to Wichita. For several years she was employed at Mutual of Omaha in Wichita.
In 1975 she and her husband moved to Fredonia where they lived until moving to Sedan early this year.
Smith was a member of the Coyville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wally Smith, Sedan; three sons, Colin Smith, Nova Scotia, Elroy Smith, Sedan, and Michael Smith, Wichita; three daughters, Diane Smith and Jacqueline Corbin, both of Nova Scotia, and Belinda Preskorn, Wichita; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Violet Kunkle
ARKANSAS CITY - Violet L. Kunkle, 80, of Arkansas City, died April 9, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Christian Women Fellowship of Central Christian Church and the Arkansas City Baseball Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Kunkle was born April 4, 1921, in Chetopa, to Corine V. (Linthicum) and Alfred M. Craft. She was raised and educated in Cambridge.
She and Maurice Dean "Mike" Kunkle married in Bentonville, Ark., and made their first home in Rock. They moved to Arkansas City in 1959. Her husband died June 15, 1991.
Kunkle was a member of Central Christian Church and had been a member of the Christian Women Fellowship. She was also a member of the Social Order of Beauceant.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Kay Mason, South Haven, and Lee Ann Wood, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Marjorie Fox, Winfield; two grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Delbert Newton
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Delbert B. Newton, 75, of Fort Collins, formerly of Cedar Vale, died April 10, 2001, in Fort Collins.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Allnutt Funeral Service's Drake Road Chapel. The Rev. William Craighead will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Jewish Hospital for Pulmonary Fibrosis Research, c/o the funeral service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
Newton was born May 12, 1925, in Cedar Vale, to Grace (Barnes) and George Wiley Newton.
On Dec. 2, 1943, he married Betty J. Hines in Cedar Vale. She died June 1, 1998.
Newton worked at Forney Industries from 1958 to 1960 and for Hewlett-Packard in Loveland, Colo., from 1960 until his retirement.
A Fort Collins resident since 1991, Newton was a member of the Red Feather Bowman's Archery Club.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Ron Newton, Kenmare, N.D.; a daughter, Nancy J. Drieth, Fort Collins; a brother, Floyd Newton, Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Nancy Morgan and Jeanne Delk, both of Fort Collins; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Judy Tally
Judyth M. "Judy" Goldwater Tally, 56, of Winfield, died April 11, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church. Inurnment will be later in Oxford Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Lung Association, American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
Tally was born April 1, 1945, in Wellington, to Beulah J. (Wooldridge) and Clarence V. Goldwater. She was raised and educated in Oxford until her senior year in high school when she transferred to Burden High School and graduated in 1963.
She worked at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for several years until her health failed.
On Jan. 21, 1967, she married Jerry Leroy Tally in Winfield.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Tally, Winfield; four brothers, Vern Goldwater, Arkansas City, Robert L. Goldwater and Rolland E. Goldwater, both of Wichita, and Max B. Goldwater, Haysville; and two sisters, Clarulah "Claire" Utt, Winfield, and Vonda Gae Epling, Henderson, Nev.
Edward Kieffer
ARKANSAS CITY - Edward Matthias Kieffer, 64, of Arkansas City, died April 11, 2001, at his residence.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery
in Winfield.

Kieffer was born Oct. 26, 1936, in Clyde, to Sophia (Mathony) and Charles Kieffer. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1955.
In 1959 he entered the U.S. Army and served until 1963.
A sheet metal mechanic at Boeing, he retired in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Kieffer and Bradley Kieffer, both of Arkansas City; two daughters, Jean Kieffer, Wichita, and Joan Sparks, Arkansas City; his special friend, Elizabeth Schaar, Cassville, Mo.; four brothers, Lawrence Kieffer, Marysville, Wally Kieffer, Wichita, Albert Kieffer, Concordia, and Herb Kieffer, Denver; two sisters, Rosemary Madden, Kemp, Texas, and Margie Caldwell, Clifton; and numerous grandchildren.
Clara Murphy
Clara B. Murphy, 85, longtime resident of Cowley County, died April 10, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.

Murphy was born March 14, 1916, in Dexter, to Lena A. (Taylor) and Bert W. Sutton. The family moved to Haverhill where she attended rural schools.
On Oct. 27, 1934, she married Charles Richard Murphy in Augusta. The couple moved to Winfield in 1935.
A homemaker, Murphy was also employed by Winfield Laundry in the 1940s and in the late 1940s worked for Seymour Packing Co.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary, Queen City Chapter 138 Order of Eastern Star and White Star of Jerusalem, part of Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Murphy, and a son, David C. Murphy, both of Winfield; two brothers, Harold W. Sutton, Davis, Okla., and Harley R. Sutton, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Hazel Chapman, Higginsville, Mo.; one grandchild and two stepgrandchildren.
Eula Bohannan
ELKHART - Eula Evelyn Bohannan, 74, former longtime resident of Chase, died April 9, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. The Rev. Larry Weatherman will officiate. Burial will be in Chase Springdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 7 tonight.
Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association may be made through the funeral home.
Bohannan was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Nogo, Ark., to Minnie (Walker) and William Boyd.
On Dec. 25, 1947, she married Howard Edward Bohannan in Pinesville, Mo. He died Jan. 14, 1988.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Lyons.
She had lived in Elkhart for three months.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Bohannan and Travis Hardcastle, both of Ellinwood, and Joe Bohannan, Hutchinson; four daughters, Connie Shadduck, Elkhart, Debbie Mazur, Chase, Brenda Suppes, Winfield, and Cindy Shadduck, Ellinwood; a brother, Bill Boyd, Santa Paula, Calif.; a sister, Euna Mayben, Woodlake, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
John Cansino
A Mass of Christian Burial for Getrudes "John" Cansino was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. April 11, 2001, at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Bernard Gorges officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
A vigil and Rosary service was held at 8:30 p.m. April 10 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel.
Pam Montenegro was the organist, and Connie Bales was the vocalist. Petra Ramirez was the lector.
Casket bearers were Tony Ramirez, Lloyd and Pete Negrete, Salvador Jaramillo, Pablo Mendoza and Vincent Macias.
Memorials have been established with Holy Name Catholic Church and the Kansas Dialysis Unit at William Newton Hospital.
