Irene Jackson
Irene Lavada Jackson, 91, formerly of Picher, Okla., died March 28, 2001, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center in Winfield.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Miami, Okla., Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Jackson was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Clinton, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Carbah. The family later moved to Lyons and to Picher, Okla.
In November 1927 she married Charles "Chucky" Jackson in Miami, Okla., and they made their home in Picher. A homemaker, she raised her children until her husband's death in 1954. She then went to work as a cook, home health care provider and custodian for Bungraf Tires of Quapaw, Okla.
Until 2000 she had lived in the same house in Picher since 1927. She moved to Winfield to be close to her family.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Picher.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Vicki Dalton, Paula Hawkins, Cathy Karnes and Everett Livesay; five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Two daughters preceded her in death: Clara Lee Poor in 1983 and Josephine Livesay in August 2000.
Fuzz Hale
G.W. "Fuzz" Hale, 68, of Winfield, died March 27, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Rev. Buddy Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Hale was born June 16, 1932, in Arkansas City, to Alice (Phelps) and Henry O. Hale. He was raised and educated in Arkansas City.
On June 6, 1955, he married Phyllis Shelton in Winfield where they made their home.
Hale worked in the oil fields for many years until retiring in 1997. After retirement, he continued to help out at the B&S Well Service shop.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hale, and a son, Danny Hale, both of Winfield; three daughters, Terry Overall, Parsons, Annette Hale, Winfield, and Rebecca Stewart, Porter, Texas; a brother, Robert Hale, Arkansas City; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Sunsera Winchester
Sunsera Uezeal Winchester, infant daughter of Arvetta and Terry Winchester of Winfield, was stillborn March 27, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Sunsera's survivors includes her parents and a brother, Terry Dale Winchester II, all of Winfield; and a grandmother, Diane Morris, and a great-grandmother, Mildred Evans, both of Joplin, Mo.
Edith Yount
Services for Edith Catherine Yount were held at 2 p.m. March 28, 2001, at the First Christian Church. The Revs. Shawn Sturm and Linda Kemp and Martha Brandenburg officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Martha Brandenburg was the organist. The Rev. Georg Kemp sang "The Lord's Prayer," and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were Bill Davis, Jim Day, Bill Drennan, Harry Evans Jr., Bill Mueller and Merle Snider.
Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church, the American Heart Association, Hospice Inc. and Winfield Rest Haven.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Ireta Williams
WILMOT - Services for Ireta Mae Williams were held at 2 p.m. March 29, 2001, in Wilmot Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Davis officiated.
Music was "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "On the Wings of a Dove."
Casket bearers were Charles, David, Frank, Jerry and Joe Williams and Carolyn Wright.
Memorials have been established with the Kansas Dialysis Center at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita and Hospice Inc.
Russell Briggs
Services for Russell Floyd Briggs were held at 10 a.m. March 29, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Scott Shaffer officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Irma Scholfield was the organist. Sue Simmons sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."
Honorary casket bearers were Mathew Finley and Jared Peters. Casket bearers were David Finley, David Herlocker, Steve McArtor, Robert A. Finley, Mark McArtor and Wayne Peters.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation.
Roy McNown
CEDAR VALE - Roy Harvey McNown, 81, of Cedar Vale, died March 30, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Graves-Baird Chapel in Sedan. Burial will be in Round Mound Cemetery
in Cedar Vale. The Revs. Larry Bowyer and Ron Keith will officiate.
McNown was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Belknap, to Florence (McAlister) and William Harvey McNown.
On April 25, 1947, he married Elizabeth Lee Patteson in Augusta.
McNown was a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McNown, Cedar Vale; two daughters, Mary L. Bland, Plano, Texas, and Virginia R. Voncannon, Cedar Vale; two brothers, Alfred McNown, Belknap, and Harrison McNown, Winfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Hazel Dean
Hazel Dean, 96, formerly of Grenola, died March 29, 2001, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Corzine Cemetery
in Corbin.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with the Grenola Senior Center and the Grenola Public Library. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Dean was born May 1, 1904, in Falls Township in Sumner County, to Mary Adella (Garlits) and Seth Rowan. She was raised on a farm in Sumner County until she and her family moved to Colorado to find gold. They later returned to the Sumner County farm.
On Sept. 10, 1924, she married John Leon Dean in Wellington. They farmed and ran grocery stores in different towns throughout southern Kansas. In 1966 they moved to Grenola, and Mrs. Dean remained there 36 years, until February 2001. She was a seamstress.
Survivors include her sons, Walter L. Dean and Paul Dean, both of Grenola; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Glenn Dean, died in 1950.
Sunsera Winchester
Services for Sunsera Uereal Winchester were held at 3 p.m. March 30 at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Brown officiated.
Special music included "Hole in the Floor of Heaven" performed by Steve Wariner.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Gregory Chamberland
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Gregory J. Chamberland March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Bernard Gorges officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
A Rosary was said at 7 p.m. March 28 in the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel.
Dorothy Groene was the organist for the Mass and Kathy Chamberland was the vocalist. Dawn Dreiling was the lector.
Honorary casket bearers were Dale Falk, Linus Brungardt, Ralph Weninger, Jerry Aistrup, Louis Martin, Jeff Higdon and Dean Sorrell.
Casket bearers were Levi Butler, Ryan Chamberland, Jeremy Frazier, Kyle Chamberland, Clayton Chamberland and Derek Bowman.
