Caleb Boyer
NEODESHA - Caleb Dillon Boyer, 10, of Neodesha, died Feb. 3, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita due to complications of influenza.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha. The Rev. Carl Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Neodesha City Cemetery.
The family has suggested contributions to the Caleb Boyer Memorial Art Garden Fund, c/o North Lawn Elementary School. Contributions may be made through Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.
Caleb was born April 25, 1990, in Arkansas City, to Rita (Shook) and Brad Boyer. In 1997 the family moved to Neodesha where Caleb attended North Lawn Elementary School. He played piano and trombone in the school band and belonged to the United Methodist Church where he tutored in the reading program.
Survivors include his parents, Brad and Rita Boyer, and a brother, Seth Boyer, all of Neodesha; his grandparents, Dwain Shook and Wendell and Helen Boyer, all of Arkansas City; and his great-grandmother, Beulah Hull, Independence.
Pearl Lungren
CALDWELL - Pearl (Hess) Lungren, 86, of Caldwell, retired teacher and homemaker, died Feb. 3, 2001, at Sumner County Hospital District 1 in Caldwell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Corbin United Methodist Church. The Rev. Diana Hill will officiate. Burial will be in Corzine Cemetery
at Corbin. Elliott-Schaeffer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Corbin United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association.
Lungren was born Sept. 25, 1914, in Corbin, to Ada (Irwin) and Larnie A. Hess. On May 4, 1938, she married Ted Lungren at Corbin.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Lungren, Caldwell; two sons, Roger Lungren, Winfield, and David Lungren, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Marilyn Houlden, Caldwell, Linda Lungren, San Diego, and Virginia Vanek, Greeley, Colo.; a brother Richard Hess, Dewey, Okla., a sister, Verna Evans, Winfield; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jessie Walker
MOLINE - Jessie Louise Walker, 98, of Moline, died Feb. 4, 2001, at Elk Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Gracelawn Cemetery
in Howard. The Rev. Ted Smith will officiate. Graves-Baird Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.
Walker was born Aug. 12, 1902, in Eureka, to Amanda Alice (Norris) and Wyman Leslie Walker.
On May 9, 1930, she married Harold Victor Brown in El Dorado. They divorced in 1936.
A retired teacher and secretary, she was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Wichita Choral Club and Wichita Rambo Club.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Julianna Ware
SEVERY - Julianna Marie Ware, daughter of Terrsheia Le "Terra" Wood and Randy Joe Ware of Severy, was born Jan. 4, 2001, and died Feb. 2 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Severy Baptist Church. Pastor Tony Pameticky will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Ronald McDonald House in Wichita. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Survivors include her parents, Terrsheia Wood and Randy Joe Ware, and a half-sister, Skylar Ware, all of Severy; her grandparents, Deana and William Gaines and Doc Bumgardner, all of Eureka, and Cindy Ware and Jack Chandler, both of Severy; her great-grandparents, Carol Edwards, Toronto, Frank and Mary Ann Bumgardner, Eureka, and Bernita Knight, Severy; and her great-great-grandmother, Elsie Scheck, Eureka.
Kenneth Davis
Kenneth F. Davis, 95, of Winfield, died Feb. 5, 2001, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center.
Services were at 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church.
Davis was born March 7, 1905, in Winfield, to Sylvia (Greenwalt) and Noah F. Davis. He was raised and educated in Winfield.
Davis spent time at sea as a radio operator for a shipping line. He returned to Winfield to work for Dietrick Water Softener Co. in sales, installation and service until his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Groene, Winfield; and nephews and nieces, including Ed Groene and Barbara Blizard, both of Winfield.
Herbert Dwyer
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Herbert Harold Dwyer, 89, of Las Cruces, died Jan. 31, 2001.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Feb. 3 in Las Cruces. Graham Mortuary and Mesilla Valley Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
Dwyer was born in Kansas to Tilda (Tinsley) and John C. Dwyer. He was a test pilot for Lockheed prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Dwyer, Las Cruces; five sons, Eldon Dwyer, Columbus, N.M., Gale Herbert Dwyer, Downey, Calif., John C. Dwyer, Whittier, Calif., Douglas Dwyer, Fallbrook, Calif., and Richard Dwyer, Chino, Calif.; a brother, Emery Dwyer, La Puente, Calif.; a sister, Viola Graham, Derby; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy Ross
ARKANSAS CITY - Nancy Ross, 50, homemaker, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 6, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Cremation has been effected. Private services will be held. Hawks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ross was born Feb. 20, 1950, in Salina, to Esther Marie (Miracle) and Matthew Peter Thielen. In 1959 the family moved to Arkansas City where she graduated from high school in 1968.
Ross served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Paul E. Ross, Arkansas City; a daughter, Tamara Lynn Ross, Columbia, Tenn.; her mother, Esther Thielen, Arkansas City; five brothers, David Lynn Thielen, Hamilton Louis Thielen, Stuart Laurence Thielen and Joseph Leonard Thielen, all of Arkansas City, and Robert Leon Thielen, Winfield; and two sisters, Carmen Louise Shrope, Spencer, Ind., and Laura Lee Stevenson, Arkansas City.
Frank Morgan
ARKANSAS CITY - Frank E. Morgan, 85, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 7, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Bible Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Morgan was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Dexter, to Blanche (Pettigrew) and James Perry Morgan. As a youngster he attended Dexter schools.
On April 17, 1937, he married Emma D. Hoyle in Perry, Okla. She died in 1998.
Morgan farmed in the Maple City area and drove a truck before World War II. During the war he left the farm and began construction work on defense plants across the U.S. After the war, he and his wife resettled in Cowley County and farmed. In 1949 they moved to Arkansas City where Morgan began work as a pipe fitter. He traveled the Midwest with the local pipe fitters union.
He was a member of Bible Christian Church and a 50-year member of Wichita Local 171 of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
Survivors include his daughters, Alice Miles, Wichita, Patricia McCutcheon, Winfield, and Shirley Blankenship, Udall; a brother, Lawrence Morgan, Washington; a sister, Pauline Snyder, Wichita; three grandchildren and three grandchildren.
A son, Lloyd Morgan, preceded him in death.
Jerry Hayden
SHELL KNOB, Mo. - Jerry Ann Hayden, 77, of Shell Knob, Mo., died Feb. 6, 2001, at her daughter's home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Denzel Nonhof will officiate. Burial will be in Painter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight in Williamson Funeral Home.
Memorials are requested for the Trinity Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Carroll Regional Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Hayden was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Wichita, to Gladys M. (Hoag) and Clarence M. "Jim" Morrison. She attended Wichita East High School and graduated from Topeka High School.
On Aug. 6, 1942, in Galveston, Texas, she married Sam B. Hayden. In 1976 they moved to Shell Knob where they started Hayden Real Estate four years later. He died July 9, 1986.
She was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and a member of SOLOs and the Shell Knob Bridge Club.
Survivors include a son, Dan Hayden, Mukilteo, Wash.; a daughter, Dana Bennington, Shell Knob; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Alvin Batt
Alvin Batt, 83, of Winfield, formerly of Florence, died Feb. 7, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Florence United Methodist Church. The Revs. Bill Dyar and Kenneth Haskell will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Zeiner Funeral Home of Florence is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
A memorial has been established with the church.
Batt was born March 19, 1917, in Marion County, to Anna (Schlotthauer) and Emanuel Batt.
On July 22, 1942, he married Nellie Crabb in Weir. She died June 21, 1999.
Batt farmed for 50 years before retiring. He served on the Florence board of education and was a longtime community volunteer. He was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and taught Sunday school. He was also a former 4-H leader.
Survivors include two daughters, Candy Pettey and Cindy Goertz, both of Winfield; a sister, Frances Hanschu, Ramona; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
