Grace Morgan
Services for Grace Morgan were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 8, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Don McCormick and Bradley Fisher officiated. Burial was in Wilmot Cemetery.
Vocal music included "One Day at a Time," performed by Cristy Lane, and "Peace in the Valley."
Casket bearers were Jesse and Mark Kent, Todd Morgan and Bill, Derek, Jamie and Tony Wilson.
Memorials have been established with Prairie View United Methodist Church and Medicalodge of Douglass.
Webster Rausch
SABETHA - Webster Kirk Rausch, 37, of Sabetha, was killed Jan. 4, 2001, in a construction accident in Auburn, Neb.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at the First Congregational Church in Sabetha.
Contributions may be made to the Webster Rausch Memorial Fund and sent in care of Morrill State Bank, 21 Main, Sabetha, KS 66534, or in care of Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
Rausch was born Dec. 4, 1963, in Kansas City, Mo., to Vernice (Delp) and Dean Rausch, formerly of Winfield. He was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Park Hill High School in 1981.
On April 7, 1984, he married Janet Harrell in Grandview, Mo. They moved to Sabetha about five years ago.
Rausch worked for Clarkson Plowerflow for 12 years and then in construction in the Kansas City area for about 18 months. He was employed by AHRS Construction Co. in Bern at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Rausch, and five sons, Jacob, Jonathan, Scott, Steve and Eric Rausch, all of Sabetha; his father, Dean Rausch, Kansas City, Mo.; six brothers, Terry, Greg, Brad, Kent, Wes and Chris Rausch, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and many relatives in the Winfield area, including cousins Jim Gropper, Mary Brewer and Cindy Huckvale.
Carla Walker
UDALL - Carla J. Walker, 38, of Udall, died Jan. 8, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be at 5 p.m. today at New Life in Jesus Chapel. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Walker was born March 22, 1962, in Wichita, to Ada Juanita (Heard) and Clifford A. Podschun. She was raised in Wichita and married Jimmy Walker.
Walker attended the Nazarene Church in Udall.
Survivors include her daughters, Jody Flower, Udall, and Lacey Reinking, Wichita; her mother, Juanita Brooker, Udall; four brothers, Robert L. Brooker, Roy W. Brooker, Marshall E. Brooker and Donald D. Brooker; two sisters, Pamela G. Jacobs and Jessica A. Lutes; and two grandchildren.
Gelston Groom
Services for Gelston Swain "Bus" Groom were held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 9, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated.
Honorary casket bearers were Sandy Stuber, Clyde Long, Bill Newman, Jack Butters and Loren Wade.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Willis Andes
Services for Willis F. Andes were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 8, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Norman Reeves officiated.
Burial was in Rose Valley Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military services.
Vocal music included "Amazing Grace" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain," performed by Trudy Andes; "Daddy's Hands," performed by Holly Dunn; and "Ghost Riders in the Sky," performed by the Sons of the Pioneers.
Honorary casket bearers were Jack Archer, Cleo Bainter, Bob Biddle, John Brazle, Kenny Gerletts, Larry Hoover, Charles Rising, Bill Rowe, Jim Van Winkle, Kip Warren, Richard Warren and Jerry Weigle.
Casket bearers were Kevin Bailey, Chris Cooley, David Dimit, Frankie Doolittle, Greg Feaster, Jim Feaster, Clay Hart and Darfus Stewart.
Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association and to assist with funeral expenses.
Neva Barnhart
Neva L. (Groom) Barnhart, 87, a Winfield resident for over 65 years, died Jan. 9, 2001, at Lakepoint Nursing Center in Rose Hill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.
A memorial has been established with the Children's Library Fund at the First Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Barnhart was born May 2, 1913, in Wilmot, to Julia Melinda (Jones) and Francis F. Groom. She attended grade school in Wilmot and graduated from Winfield High School in 1931.
On March 20, 1934, she married Johnnie W. Barnhart in Sedan. The couple made their home in Winfield.
For 30 years she worked as a saleswoman for the C.R. Anthony department store before her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Her husband died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald H. Barnhart, Andover, and James R. Barnhart, Grand Junction, Colo.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Kurtlan Hahs
SEVERY - Kurtlan Karell Hahs, 45, of Severy, died Jan. 9, 2001, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Severy Baptist Church. Pastor Tony Pameticky will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Valley Memorial Park in Novato, Calif.
A memorial has been established with the Severy Baptist Church. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Hahs was born Nov. 22, 1955, in St. Louis, to Wanda Lee (Kuhnert) and Robert Caroll Hahs. He graduated from high school in the St. Louis area.
Hahs moved to California and attended Marin County Junior College in San Rafael. For several years he was employed as an assistant trust officer at the West America Bank in Novato.
On Sept. 22, 1984, he married Ellen Marie (Patterson) Wahl in Novato. They lived in Novato until moving to Severy in 1990.
Hahs was recently employed by the ALCO store in Eureka.
He was a member of the Severy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Hahs, Severy; a stepdaughter, Tami Digman, Woodward, Okla.; a brother, Eric Hahs, Novato; and a stepgranddaughter.
Gelston Groom
Gelston Swain "Bus" Groom, 88, of Winfield, died Jan. 6, 2001, at the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Winfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military honors, including taps and a gun salute. Music included "In the Garden" and "Peace in the Valley."
Honorary casket bearers were Sandy Stuber, Clyde Long, Bill Newman, Jack Butters and Loren Wade.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home.
Groom was born June 1, 1912, in Wilmot, to Mabel (Swain) and Arthur Groom. He attended rural schools and Wichita Commercial Business College.
Before World War II Groom served in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley. He was recalled to serve in the 9th mechanized armor division until 1945, including 13 months in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany.
On Dec. 3, 1942, he married Marjorie F. Logan in Wellington.
Groom worked for 16 years as a mechanic for Stuber Brothers Ford before starting Groom's Auto Service which he and his wife owned and operated until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Groom, Winfield; a daughter, Gelestene Kay Miller, Ponca City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
John Martin
KILGORE, Texas - John Martin, 86, of Kilgore, died Jan. 13, 2001, in Kilgore.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Dr. William J. Ingersoll and Walter Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Danville, Texas. Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3613 S. Broadway, Suite, 401, Tyler, TX 75701-8732.
Martin was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Douglass, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He earned a bachelor's degree from Emporia State College.
He moved to Alaska before serving in the Army during World War II.
After the war Martin became a custom jeweler at Elliott's Jewelry Store in El Dorado, Ark., where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the El Dorado First Presbyterian Church where he was a choir member and a deacon. He sang in a barbershop quartet and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Thomas Martin, and a son, Richard Martin, both of Kilgore, Texas; two sisters, Helen Olmstead and Mildred Jenkins, both of Douglass; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
