Alan Mikel
Alan Jacob Mikel, infant son of Brad and Amanda (Smith) Mikel of Edwardsburg, Mich., died Nov. 22, 2000, in Winfield.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29 at Coulter's Chapel Church of God in Niles, Mich. Halbritter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Miles Funeral Service was in charge of local arrangements.
Alan was born May 19, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, Ind. The family has resided in Michigan since his birth.
Survivors include his parents, Brad and Amanda Mikel, and his brother, Kevin Mikel, all of Edwardsburg, Mich.; his grandparents, Lindell and Katheryn Kennedy, Duane and Cathy Sherrard, Gerald and Kathy Mikel and Steve and Cindy Smith; his great-grandparents, Don and Mildred Sherrard, Gus and Virginia Karaus, Hubert Cecil and Billy Maxine Smith, and Norma and Gene Mikel; and his great-great-grandmother, Geneva Evans.
Freda Reutter
LAWRENCE - Freda Ludlow Reutter, 70, of Lawrence, formerly of Winfield, died Nov. 28, 2000, at her home.
Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Vinland Cemetery
at Vinland.
Memorials have been established with the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association and the Audubon Society. Contributions may be sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th, Lawrence, KS 66044.
Reutter was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Winfield, to Vera Juanita (Pearce) and Lonnie Paul Ludlow. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1948 and from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1951.
On Sept. 14, 1957, she married Ivan Reutter in Farmington, N.M.
Reutter worked as a registered nurse in Farmington, Ponca City and Winfield and at Watkins Hospital at the University of Kansas. She retired from nursing in 1970 after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
She was a member of the former Lawrence Gem and Mineral Club.
Survivors include her husband, Ivan Reutter, Lawrence; a daughter, Janet Dawes, Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Ina Waltner, Newton.
Jessie Jacobs
WELLINGTON - Jessie Suzann Jacobs, 20, of Wellington, formerly of Burden, died Nov. 28, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.
Cremation has been effected. The family will receive friends at the Hagar residence, 2004 North A, Wellington, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in lieu of memorial services. Frank Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church in Wellington.
Jacobs graduated from Central High School in May. She was employed by the Oak Tree Inn housekeeping department.
Survivors include her parents, Darrell and Loretta Jacobs, Burden; four sisters, Kimberly Hagar, Wellington, and Tina Marie Jacobs, Krystal Mae Jacobs and Jolene Jacobs, all of Burden; her grandparents, Ruby Howland, Kimberling City, Mo., and Paul and Glennis Jacobs, Milan; and her great-grandmother, Ada Welsh, Harrison, Mo.
Thelma Strong
WELLINGTON - Thelma E. Strong, 87, of Wellington, formerly of Mount Hope, died Nov. 28, 2000, in Wellington.
Services were at 1 p.m. Nov. 30 in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mary A. Marrow officiated. Wulf-Ast Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Strong was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Rock, to Ada (Leach) and George Porter. She married Clyde E. Strong, who preceded her in death.
She was employed by Beech Aircraft Co. before her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Pham and Lynn Woods, both of Wichita, and Mary Dominick, Wellington; three sons, Barry Strong and John Strong, both of Wichita, and Howard Strong, Parsons; and four grandchildren.
Vivian Brumbaugh
ARKANSAS CITY - Vivian Viola Brumbaugh, 87, formerly of Portis, died Nov. 30, 2000, at Medicalodge East Health Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Brethren Church in Portis. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery
at Portis.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home tonight from 5 to 8 and Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Clark-Gashaw Mortuary in Osborne.
Brumbaugh was born April 11, 1913, on a farm near Harlan, to Emily (McClain) and John Anderson. She attended schools in Harlan and graduated from high school there.
She married Dean Brumbaugh, and they operated a dairy farm for a few years. Her husband died Sept. 14, 1994.
Brumbaugh was a nurse's aide for several years at the Osborne hospital and was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Osborne.
Several years ago she moved to Arkansas City and attended Mount Zion Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Brew, Arkansas City; a son, Deloy Brumbaugh, Oxford; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mina Horn
Services for Mina Lucile Horn were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Speakers were Ian Storrar, Julia Cole, Joanna Storrar and Janis Cole. Special music was a selection by Beethoven.
Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Historical Society.
Rosa Humbert
Services for Rosa Lorene Jones Humbert were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 29, 2000, at the First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Ken Davidson officiated. Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.
Nedra Musgrove and Bwana Drennan sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were Scott Humbert, Marvin Moore, Benny, Fred and Paul Swisher and Brian, Randy and Rick Waldorf.
A memorial has been established with the First Assembly of God Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Gregory McClurg
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Gregory W. McClurg at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Revs. Bernard Gorges, Mike Maybrier and Mike Nolan officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Vigil and Rosary services were held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at Holy Name Catholic Church.
Lectors were Tom Schnittker and Kay Schnittker.
Music was provided by the Holy Name String Choir, soloists Fran Parks and Richard Palsmeier and the Winfield High School A Cappella Choir.
Honorary casket bearers were Joe and Matt Deiter, Josh Winegarner, Brian Parsons, Mark Abraham, Joe Wood, Grant Groene, Scott Kent, Enno Sohst, Michael Long, Aubry Peters, Josh White and Casey Durbin.
Casket bearers were Dick, Michael and Jared Schmidtberger, Mike and Shaun Roth and Glenn Dinkel.
Memorials have been established with the Holy Name Catholic Youth Organization, Winfield High School and William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Sharon Huffstutter
DERBY - Sharon Joann Huffstutter, 51, of Derby, formerly of Arkansas City, died Nov. 30, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Huffstutter was born Aug. 23, 1949, in Arkansas City, to Maxine E. (Brooks) and James E. Huffstutter. She was raised in Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1967 and from Cowley County Community College in 1969. Beginning in 1973 she was employed by Trans World Airlines as a flight attendant. She was later promoted to in-flight service manager and was transferred to New York City, flying primarily international routes.
Huffstutter was a member of the Derby Presbyterian Church and a life member of Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her mother, Maxine Huffstutter, Derby; and two sisters, Dr. Sue E. Huffstutter, Ludington, Mich., and Sandra L. Merten, Roscoe, Ill.
Wilbert Peters
GEUDA SPRINGS - Wilbert Dewey Peters, 91, of Geuda Springs, died Dec. 2, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Geuda Springs Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.
Peters was born Jan. 6, 1909, in Faxon, Okla., to Ida (Cooper) and Earl Peters. He was raised and educated in Geuda Springs. He later attended Pittsburg State College and taught in country schools in the Geuda Springs area.
On April 22, 1935, he married Irene Jane Robinson in Independence. She died in 1996.
During World War II he served in the United States Army.
A rural postal carrier for 39 years, Peters retired in 1977. He was a member of the American Legion, Spring Hill Golf Club and Arkansas City Country Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilberta Kelly, Winfield; a sister, Maxine Riedlinger, Arkansas City; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
