Fred Clark
ARKANSAS CITY - Fred P. Clark Sr., 79, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 27, 2000, at Riverview Manor in Oxford.
Recitation of the Rosary was at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Hawks Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery
in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with Riverview Manor. Contributions may be made through Hawks Funeral Home.
Clark was born July 8, 1921, at Dalton, Sumner County, to Johanna (Holscher) and Francis "Frank" Clark. He was raised and educated in Arkansas City and Winfield.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
On Nov. 15, 1944, he married Mary Maurita McCorgary in Arkansas City. They farmed for over 50 years west of Arkansas City. After leaving the farm, he worked for 13 years as a Pinkerton guard in Arkansas City and Winfield before retiring in 1999.
His wife died Oct. 30, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Davis, Friendswood, Texas; a sister, Louise Erker, Wellington; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Tony Dow
ARKANSAS CITY - Tony Dow, 41, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 26, 2000, at his home.
Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.
Dow was born Jan. 14, 1959, in Okeen, Okla., to Delilia Faye (Fortune) and Fay Allen Dow. The family moved to Arkansas City from Fairview, Okla., in 1965.
Dow attended schools in Arkansas City and worked for Skyline Motor Homes and Mauer Neuer Rodeo Meats before being disabled in an automobile accident in 1982.
Survivors include his stepfather and mother, Earl and Dee Dow-Wampler, his father and stepmother, Fay and Frances Dow, and two half-brothers, Dave Dow and Brian Hand, all of Arkansas City; a stepbrother, Jeff Wampler, Winfield; and two stepsisters, Tina Randall, Winfield, and Michelle Wampler, Arkansas City.
Roger Holman
Roger Holman, 55, of 1010 E. Seventh, Winfield, died of lung cancer Oct. 28, 2000, at his home.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the large pavilion in Island Park. The Rev. Ron Keith will officiate. A private inurnment will take place later.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and Winfield American Legion Post 10.
Holman was born May 1, 1945, in Winfield, to Lucinda (Eudaly) and Emery E. "Bud" Holman. He attended Winfield schools and served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He had lived and worked in Wyoming, Phoenix and Ponca City before returning to Winfield two years ago. He was a part-time handyman.
Holman was a member of American Legion Post 10 and the National Rifle Association. He had been active in the Hunter Safety Program and the Boy Scouts of America and had been a rodeo clown.
Survivors include his mother, Lucinda Johnson, Winfield; and two sisters, Pat Davis, Winfield, and Sheri Crawford, Edmond, Okla.
Lenora Mounts
DEXTER - Lenora Lillian Kratky Mounts, 85, homemaker, of Dexter, died Oct. 27, 2000, in Mount Hope.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, Okla. Burial will be in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with Mount Hope Nursing Center, 407 E. Main, Mount Hope, KS 67108.
Kratky was born Dec. 17, 1914, in Britton, Okla., to Christine (Kung) and Frank Kratky.
On June 1, 1938, she married Alvin Mounts in Britton. He died in 1973.
An artist and seamstress, she was a member of the Dexter Order of Eastern Star, Dexter Civic Club, Kansas Cowbells and an extension homemakers unit.
Survivors include a daughter, Verlane Phillips, Conway, Mo.; a son, Milam Mounts, Andale; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Donald Collier
MOLINE - Donald Lee Collier, 69, of Moline and Wichita, died Oct. 28, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moline Christian Church. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate. The McConnell Air Force Base honor guard will conduct military graveside services at Moline Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter in Sedan. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Collier was born March 25, 1931, in Mason, Ky., to Ida Beatrice (Lockhart) and Elmer Lee Collier. He graduated from high school and grew to manhood in the Mason community.
In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps which later became the United States Air Force. While stationed overseas, he married Sylvia Powiss in Wales, United Kingdom. The marriage later ended.
He served 20 years in the Air Force, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. On Sept. 1, 1969, he retired from military service.
On July 2, 1971, he married Eda Carlene (Burst) Coleman in Maize and they made their home in Wichita.
Collier was employed as a parts and equipment buyer for Sherwood Construction Co. in Wichita and retired from that position in 1981. In 1993 he and his wife purchased a home in Moline and continued to maintain their home in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Eda Collier, Moline and Wichita; two sons, Richard Collier, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Gary Collier, Statesboro, Ga.; two daughters, Gail DuRant, Newport News, Va., and Donna Creasy, Brooklet, Ga.; a sister, Doris Ann Collier, Frankfort, Ky.; and six grandchildren.
Ronald Flock
Services for Ronald J. Flock were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 27, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Marty Taliaferro and Dave Hammond officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Danice Sweet presented "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Morning Has Broken." Kathy Waite presented "Amazing Grace." The congregation sang "Paradise Valley" and "I'll Fly Away." Cliff Goggans was the song leader.
American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military graveside services.
Honorary casket bearers were Ken Chestnut, Gene Curless, Don Harper, Ben Holman, Allen Koch, Rex Lawman, Justin McMenamy, Carmel Olive and K.D. Zerbye.
Casket bearers were Jake Clover, Causie Crane, Eddie Karnes, Jason McClanahan, Dana Taliaferro, Marty Taliaferro and Scott Taliaferro.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and Flint Hills Christian Camp.
Mary Jones
BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Mary M. Flattery Jones, 69, of Belleville, Ill., died Oct. 18, 2000, in Memorial Convalescent Center in Belleville.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 23 at St. Peter Cathedral Catholic Church in Belleville.
Memorials may be made to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville or in the form of Masses.
Kassly Mortuary of Fairview Heights Ill., was in charge of arrangements.
Jones was born Dec. 9, 1930, in El Dorado, to Hanna (McEniry) and James J. Flattery. She grew up in Winfield where she graduated from high school.
When her family moved to Belleville, she worked as a unit secretary at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, volunteered as a pink lady and was part-time unit secretary in Amarillo, Texas, retiring after 21 years of service.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Russell E. Jones, Belleville; a daughter, Susan K. Jones, Austin, Texas; four sons, Reginald E. Jones, Amarillo, Texas, Terrance A. Jones, St. Charles, Mo., Kent B. Jones, Tacoma, Wash., and Stephen J. Jones, Katy, Texas; a sister, JoAnn Leman, Wichita; two brothers, John Flattery, Wichita, and Bill Flattery, Chicago; and eight grandchildren.
Kenneth Utt
BELLE PLAINE - Kenneth Utt, 70, of Belle Plaine, died Oct. 30, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Belle Plaine First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Belle Plaine Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hatfield-Smith Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Belle Plaine High School Alumni Association.
Utt was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Silverdale, to Effie M. (Harp) and Clarence A. Utt. He attended school in Foraker, Okla., and Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1948.
He went to work at Boeing following high school. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army. Following service he returned to Boeing where he worked for 40 years until his retirement in 1988 as a supervisor of the dispatch department.
On Dec. 20, 1951, he married Marjorie Hunt at the Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Belle Plaine First United Methodist Church, the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class and the Belle Plaine Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Utt, Belle Plaine; his son, Kendal Utt, Pratt; two daughters, Kenna Utt, Denver, and Susan Gonzales, Haysville; a sister, Dora Howard, Ponca City; four brothers, Wayne Utt, Mulvane, Wendell Utt, Silverdale, Wade Utt, Hemit, Calif., and Doyle Utt, Belle Plaine; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
