Walter O'Neal
ARKANSAS CITY - Walter Jim O'Neal, 78, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 1, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 this evening.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
O'Neal was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Stilwell, Okla., to Ida V. (Clinton) and Jesse J. O'Neal.
On March 14, 1942, he married Marcella Edith Hopkins in Stilwell where they made their first home. In 1952 they moved to Arkansas City where he worked for the New Era Flour Mill (ADM Milling Co.) until retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service.
His wife died in 1986.
O'Neal was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the Arkansas City Men's Bowling Association. He bowled in several leagues for 38 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Jordan and Patsy O'Neal, both of Arkansas City, and Peggy Pool, Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Walter Jim O'Neal Jr., Fort Worth, and Bobby Joe O'Neal, Ardmore, Okla.; four sisters, Ruby Deason, Della Mae Deason, Florene Gass and Maxine Blackman, all of Stilwell; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Myrl Stark
HUTCHINSON - Myrl M. Stark, 82, of Hutchinson, died Oct. 1, 2000, at Dillon Living Center in Hutchinson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Kim Biery will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Turon Cemetery
with an honor guard from Fort Riley conducting military services.
Friends may call at the mortuary from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial has been established with the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
Stark was born May 10, 1918, in Turon, to Edna R. (Allison) and Clifford W. Stark. He graduated from Turon High School and Hutchinson Junior College. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
On Nov. 28, 1942, he married Betty Baxter in Wichita. She died June 22, 1988.
A Hutchinson resident since 1964, he was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Hutchinson.
Stark was a member of the Turon Community Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of the National Association of Federal Employees.
Survivors include four daughters, Christina Bontrager and Kelly Kreutzer, both of Hutchinson, Pamela Troy, Atlanta, Ga., and Allyson Moon, Winfield; a brother, Erwin Stark, Columbia, Md.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Dean Strother
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Retired Gen. Dean Coldwell Strother, 92, died Sept. 24, 2000, in Colorado Springs.
Services were held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Air Force Cadet Chapel. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
Strother was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Winfield.
He retired as commander-in-chief of the North American Air Defense Command after serving in the Air Force for 35 years.
On Dec. 29, 1964, he married Elsie Warmoth.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Strother, Colorado Springs; a daughter, Julia Ann; and a brother, Kenneth C. Strother, Los Angeles.
Keith Bush
DOUGLASS - Keith G. Bush, 78, of Douglass, retired farmer and rancher, died Oct. 2, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Douglass United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. of Butler County and the First Christian Church of Douglass. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bush was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Wichita, to Mildred (Giddens) and Morgan Bush.
On Aug. 28, 1943, he married Joan Olmstead in Lubbock, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Bush, Douglass; two sons, Terry Bush, Flower Mound, Texas, and Bill Bush, Derby; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Delt Greenelsh
DOUGLASS - Delt E. Greenelsh, 88, of Douglass, died Oct. 3, 2000, in Douglass.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Greenelsh was born June 18, 1912, in King City, Mo., to Carrie (Copeland) and Delta Greenelsh.
On Sept. 30, 1945, he married Helen W. Zarndt in Wichita.
He was a retired Beech Aircraft mechanic, Federal Aviation Administration inspector and private pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Greenelsh, Douglass; a son, Stephen Earl West, Wichita; a daughter, Leann Hartman, Chicago; a sister, Carolyn Green, Waubay, S.D., and four grandchildren.
Jim Harding
HOWARD - Jimmie Lee "Jim" Harding, 60, of Howard, died Oct. 2, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Rev. Robin Haines will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in McConnell Cemetery

Harding was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Galloway, Mo., to Mildred L. (Brewer) and James Ophare Harding. He grew up in Nixa and graduated from Nixa High School.
On Sept. 12, 1958, he married Patsy Ann Wilson in Nixa. They made their home in Nixa and Springfield, Mo., before moving to the Howard community. Harding was a professional truck driver.
He was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church in Missouri.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Harding, Howard; a son, Rick Harding, Fort Worth, Texas; his mother, Mildred Harding, Nixa, Mo.; and three granddaughters.
Marie McGlasson
OKLAHOMA CITY - Twila Marie McGlasson, 77, of Oklahoma City, formerly of the Moline area, died Oct. 3, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Services will be at 2 p.m Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church of Moline. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
McGlasson was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Elk Falls, to Myrtle Ruth (Snyder) and Neil Shanks. She attended rural Elk County schools and graduated from Longton High School in 1942.
On April 5, 1943, she married John Freddrick "Fred" McGlasson in Sedan. A homemaker, she was also employed for several years as a retail sales clerk for Woolworth and Kress and also worked as a grocery store clerk.
She made a home for her family in Burden, Winfield and Arkansas City as well as various locations in Oklahoma, including Blackwell, Nelogany and Putnam. The McGlassons moved to Seiling, Okla., in 1973. Her husband died Aug. 5, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Bill McGlasson and Allen McGlasson, both of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Wayne Shanks, Moline, Richard Shanks, Longton, and Larry Shanks, Pittsburg; five sisters, Edwina Mason, Atwood, Doris Bonner, Atchison, Jean McCroskey, Tucson, Ariz., Sharon McGinnis, Brunswick, Mo., and Wanda Banning, Johnson; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Suzanne Taylor
Suzanne Martin Taylor, 79, of 1321 E. Ninth, Winfield, died Oct. 3, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church. Cremation has been effected by Miles Funeral Service.
Memorials have been established with the outreach program at Grace Episcopal Church and the Cowley County Humane Society, P.O. Box 14, Arkansas City, KS 67005.
Suzanne Taylor was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Ethel Alexander and Victor H. Martin. The family moved to Winfield in 1923.
She graduated from Winfield High School in 1938; attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., and Southwestern College and completed a secretarial course at St. John's College.
On April 22, 1944, she married William A. Taylor Jr. at Grace Episcopal Church.
She was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church where she was active in the Altar Guild and had served as a vestry member, junior warden and senior warden.
Mrs. Taylor served one term as a member of the Winfield board of education and later was a member of the city park board. She was a longtime member of the Cowley County Humane Society and a member and recording treasurer of Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Taylor Jr., Winfield; two daughters, Alexandra "Lexy" Pfeifley, Denver, and Zelia McDowell, Jenkintown, Pa.; two sons, William A. Taylor III, Winfield, and Martin G. Taylor, Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brother, Victor H. Martin Jr., Winfield; and six grandchildren.
Billy Hamilton
Services for Billy W. Hamilton were held at 7 p.m. Oct. 4, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated.
Chip Morton performed "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "I'll Fly Away."
A memorial has been established with the Hope Fund at Cumbernauld Village.
