Murrel Snyder
Services for Murrel K. Snyder were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 6, 2000, at Grace United Methodist Church. Dr. Wallace Gray officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Peggy Miller Snyder was the organist. Connie Nicholson performed the bell solos "The Lord's Prayer" and "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us." The congregation sang "In the Garden," and David Foster sang "Amazing Grace."
David Snyder and Eldon Snyder shared memories.
Honorary casket bearers were Henry Bernard, June Snyder Frager, Richard Frager, Vivian Lawrence, Vern Livengood, C. Orville Strohl and Martha Wakefield.
Casket bearers were Allison Snyder Daily, Wendy and David Foster, Tracy and Steve Huff, Robin and Dennis Murray, Susan and David Newman, Connie Nicholson and Damon, Darrel, Darren, Doug and Tara Snyder.

Hap Wilson
LAFERIA, Texas - Harold L. "Hap" Wilson, 79, of LaFeria, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 2, 2000, at his residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Winfield's Highland Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with the Al Amin Temple, Corpus Christi, Texas, and the Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, Harlingen, Texas.
Wilson was born July 20, 1921, in Winfield.
He worked for Boeing Aircraft during World War II, then joined the Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific.
For 34 years he worked for the Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages. After retiring in 1981, he moved to the Rio Grande Valley from Houston.
Wilson was a 50-year member of the Order of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the York Rite Bodies. He was a member of the Winfield and LaFeria Masonic lodges.
He joined the Shriner Hella Temple in Dallas in 1953. He was a member of the Arabia Temple in Houston and held numerous staff positions, including membership on the board of directors. A life member of Al Amin Temple in Corpus Christi, Texas, he served as potentate in 1990.
Wilson was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Presbyterian Church, all of LaFeria.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eileen Wilson, LaFeria; two daughters, Cynthia Brzycki, San Antonio, Texas, and Marcilee Bierlein, Wilmington, Del.; a son, Harold Wilson Jr., Dallas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Neoma Murphy
EL DORADO - Neoma R. Murphy, 88, homemaker, of El Dorado, died Sept. 6, 2000, in El Dorado.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Neal Alford will officiate.
Friends may call at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Douglass Public Library.
Murphy was born March 29, 1912, in Cleo Springs, Okla., to Pearl (Heavlin) and Thomas Edgar Goatley. She had been an area resident since 1923.
On March 8, 1945, she married Willis E. "Pony" Murphy in Winfield. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert J. Long, El Dorado, two great-nephews, a great-great-niece and a great-great-nephew.
Orena Zimmerman
CEDAR VALE - Services for Orena Vea Zimmerman were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7, 2000, in North Cedar Cemetery
at Cedar Vale. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated. Music was "The Old Rugged Cross."
Honorary casket bearers were Dub Munday, Don Call, Carl Steward, Gene Kennedy, Eldon Munday and Royal Kennedy.
A memorial has been established with Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale was in charge of arrangements.
Joe Bussard
OXFORD - Services for Joe Thilbern Bussard were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8, 2000, in Oxford Cemetery. Clint Brown officiated. Vocal music was "Amazing Grace."
Military ceremonies were performed by the Wellington American Legion post.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Foundation for the Blind.

Maxine Brown
CAMBRIDGE - Maxine E. Brown, 85, of Cambridge, died Sept. 7, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cambridge Presbyterian Church.
A service was held at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita. The Rev. Fran Broadhurst officiated. Burial was in Lakeview Mausoleum in Wichita.
A memorial has been established with Cambridge Presbyterian Church.
Brown was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Peck, to Edith (Gray) and Merble Vincent Simpson. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Kaye Rice, Cambridge; a son, Barry Brown, Tye, Texas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert Todd
SEVERY - Robert Wendell Todd, 80, of Severy, died Sept. 9, 2000, at his son's home near Augusta.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Dale R. Burnett will officiate. Burial will be in Elk Falls Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Elk Falls Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Todd was born April 13, 1920, in Altamont, to Lulu Naomi (Cockeral) and Jesse Andrew Todd. When he was a child, the family moved to Coffeyville where he attended school. He worked two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps and serving during World War II.
On Sept. 20, 1944, he married Wanda Joy Halverson in Bemidji, Minn. They made their home in Wichita where he was employed for many years at Boeing Aircraft Co. They moved to their farm at Severy in 1971.
Todd was a member of the Elk Falls Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Todd, Severy; three sons, William Todd and Roger Todd, both of Wichita, and Robert Todd, Augusta; two daughters, Barbara Falconburg, Wichita, and Carolyn Stinnett, Alabama; a sister, Ruby Lockmoler, St. Louis; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mildred Bradshaw
OVERBROOK - Mildred Bessie Bradshaw, 97, formerly of Winfield and Arkansas City, died Sept. 8, 2000, at Brookside Manor in Overbrook.
A memorial service will be scheduled later. Cremation has been effected. Hawks Funeral Home of Arkansas City was in charge of arrangements.
Bradshaw was born Oct. 22, 1902, in Bethel, to Gertrude "Ertie" (Castell) and Charles Aden Lynch. After her parents died, she helped raise her two younger sisters.
On Feb. 1, 1918, she married Charles Franklin Laughery Sr.
She later married Lyle Vinson and lived in Seattle. As he worked on oil rigs, they eventually moved to Minnesota.
Later she moved to Arkansas City where she married Thomas Bradshaw and worked in a cafe. They moved to Fort Smith, Ark., where they operated the Wooten Hotel. They later purchased and managed the Van Buren Motel and Mildred's Cafe in Van Buren, Ark.
The couple retired in 1966 and moved to Eufala, Okla., Muskogee, Okla., and then Wagner, Okla. After her husband's death June 29, 1980, Bradshaw returned to Arkansas City for four years. She then lived in Winfield for five years until moving recently to Overbrook to be closer to her great-granddaughter, Tammy Yates.
Survivors besides Yates include five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Charles Franklin Laughery Jr., and a daughter, Mildred Louise Lancaster, preceded her in death.
Minnie Brown
Minnie Bea Brown, 88, of Winfield Rest Haven, died there Sept. 11, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with Winfield Rest Haven.
Brown was born May 21, 1912, at Rock, to Lottie (Kelso) and Fred Pickering. She was raised and educated in the Rock area.
In 1928 she married Lloyd H. Johnson. He died Jan. 1, 1966.
In November 1968 she married Emmitt H. Brown. He died in 1984.
Brown had worked for many years as a dietitian, both at William Newton Memorial Hospital and the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Louise Fox and Norma Faye Morris, both of Winfield, and Donna Fortier, Wichita; 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Alvin Johnson, preceded her in death.
