Vada Lacy
ARKANSAS CITY - Vada "Charlene" Lacy, 82, of Arkansas City, formerly of Winfield, died July 14, 2000, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Chapel.
A memorial has been established with the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Lacy was born June 3, 1918, in Winfield, to Bessie Irene (Riggs) and Earl Azariah King. She worked as a dental assistant at Strother Field during World War II.
On May 14, 1944, she married Francis Edmond Lacy in Colorado Springs, Colo. They lived in Manitou, Colo., before returning to Winfield after the war. Mrs. Lacy moved to Arkansas City later in life.
A homemaker, she was also an artist for many years in the Winfield area. She assisted Sue Jean Covacevich-Boys when she painted the mural at the First National Bank building in Winfield. Her artwork has been shown all over the world.
She was a member of the Winfield Art Association and the Calvary Chapel and taught art at Calvary Christian School for several years.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Boatman and Ann Fry, both of Arkansas City; a brother, Don King, and a sister, Betty Dobson, both of Winfield; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband and four daughters, Maxine King, Dorothy Howard, Louise West and Viola Curtis, preceded her in death.
Ivan McNown
MOLINE - Ivan Adelbert McNown, 83, of Moline, died July 14, 2000, at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery
in Grenola.
A memorial has been established with the Moline Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
McNown was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Belknap, to Edna Mae (McAlister) and Glen Adelbert McNown. He attended school and grew to manhood in the Belknap community.
On Nov. 7, 1936, he married Thelma E. Jellison in Howard.
In 1940 he began trucking and continued hauling livestock until he became ill this year. He also operated a farm for several years and remained a resident of the Moline area throughout his life. His wife died Oct. 28, 1978, after 42 years of marriage. A son, David, also preceded him in death.
On Jan. 8, 1985, he married Dorothy Esther (Corle) Hey in Miami, Okla. She died, after 13 years of marriage, on July 28, 1997.
He took part in the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers programs in the Elk and Chautauqua county area.
Survivors include three daughters, Loma McClure, Arkansas City; Faye McNown, Moline, and Mary Cobb, Oklahoma city; eight stepchildren; two brothers, Dale McNown, Moline, and Bud McNown, El Dorado; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Merle Creed
ATLANTA - Merle L. Creed, 68, of Atlanta, died July 14, 2000, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in South Haven Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Creed was born Oct. 3, 1931, near Clearwater, to Helen Lucille (Clum) and Elmer Emmet Creed. He was educated in Latham and South Haven and graduated from South Haven High School in 1950.
In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army and served a short time in the Korean War before receiving a medical discharge. He then worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita as a fuselage mechanic and assembly worker. Creed retired from Boeing in 1994 after 40 years of service.
On Sept. 3, 1993, he married June B. Baumgartel in Douglass. They made their home in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, June Creed, Mulvane; a son, Mike Creed, address not given; two daughters, Michelle Ann Ibrahim, Texas, and Melinda Kay Creed, address not given; two stepdaughters, Donna Nelson, Mulvane, and Peggy Williamson, Lyons; a stepson, Herby House, Douglass; four brothers, Willis "Bill" Creed, Windom, Don Creed, Deaver, Wyo., Farris Creed, Olathe, and Darrell Creed, Irvine, Calif.; a twin sister, Mildred Calkins, Escondido, Calif.; two grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson.
Duane Chrisler
Duane C. Chrisler, 71, of 12 Renfrew Road, Winfield, died July 18, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Tisdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Chrisler was born Jan. 29, 1929, at Natoma, to Hettie Belle (McConnell) and George Oren Chrisler. He graduated from Codell High School in 1946 and from Kansas State University in 1950.
He served with the U.S. Army's 40th Division in Japan and Korea and was an operations sergeant when discharged in 1953.
On March 1, 1953, he married Patricia Lawrence in Winfield. They farmed in the Tisdale area from 1954 until ill health forced his retirement. They moved to Winfield in 1998.
Chrisler built a seed-cleaning facility on his farm and was a wheat seed grower, seed conditioner and seed salesman.
He had done custom harvesting in Texas and Oklahoma.
Chrisler had served as a board member and president of the Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative, Cowley County Farm Bureau and USD 465. He was on the board when Country View Elementary School was organized and was a board member of the USD 465 Foundation.
Chrisler had been a 4-H livestock project leader and county fair beef superintendent.. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Chrisler, and a son, Randy Chrisler, both of Winfield; a daughter, Karen Baker, Burden; a brother, Dale Chrisler, Oakley; and three grandchildren.
Randy Conn
Randy Nelson Conn, 45, of 502 W. 14th, Winfield, died July 16, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jumping Jukebox, 1017 Main. Cremation has been effected. Private inurnment will take place later. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Contributions to the Randy Nelson Conn Monument Fund can be sent to the Jumping Jukebox.
Conn was born May 8, 1955, in Long Beach, Calif., to Joyce Eldadean (Estridge) and Charles Luther "Chuck" Conn. He attended school in Derby and lived in the Wichita area for 20 years before moving to Winfield in 1990.
Conn worked in construction and as a sign painter before moving to Winfield. He worked for Hawks Interstate Exterminators for five years.
Survivors include three daughters, Samantha Overbey, Grenola, Rhonda Thomas, Clarksville, Tenn., and April Berry, Winfield; a son, Chuck Shaw, Winfield; his mother, Joyce Conn, Wichita; three brothers, Bob Conn, Tulsa, Fred Conn, Phoenix, and Chuck Conn, address not given; and nine grandchildren.
Wanda Lampson
CEDAR VALE - Wanda Lampson, 62, of Cedar Vale, died July 16, 2000, at Cedar Vale Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Wheeler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
Lampson was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Grenola, to Ruby (Bohannon) and John Wagner. She had lived around Cedar Vale most of her life but moved to El Dorado five years ago.
On June 21, 1953, she married William Lampson.
She was a certified nurse's assistant at Cedar Vale Community Hospital and Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, William Lampson, Cedar Vale; two daughters, Pam Walker, Ponca City, and Connie Lampson, El Dorado; four sons, Rex Lampson and Ty Lampson, both of El Dorado, Dwayne Lampson, Cedar Vale, and David Lampson, Arkansas City; her mother, Ruby Bohannon, Wichita; a sister, Betty Hunt, Clifton, Colo.; a half-sister, Viola Bohannon, and two half-brothers, Gene Ray Bohannon and Dean Bohannon, all of Wichita; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A son, Roger Lampson, preceded her in death.
Judith Massey
CEDAR VALE - Judith Marie Massey, 60, of Cedar Vale, died July 17, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Massey was born Dec. 14, 1939, in Winfield, to Ruth Marie (Corder) and Ralph Aaron Marker. She was educated in Dexter schools and graduated from Dexter High School in 1957.
On April 18, 1958, she married Joe Massey in Winfield. They made their home on a farm near Cedar Vale. A homemaker, she also farmed and ranched with her husband.
She was a member of the Dexter Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Massey, and a son, Joseph Todd Massey, both of Cedar Vale; three daughters, Beth Annette Wolfe, Clay Center, Sherri Lea Edmundson, Colby, and Vivian Sue Thompson, Cedar Vale; a sister, Anne Heep, Houston; a brother, Bill Marker, Dexter; and 11 grandchildren.
A.D. Berry
ARKANSAS CITY - A.D. Berry, 67, of Arkansas City, died July 16, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Berry was born Feb. 17, 1933, in Bridgeton, Okla., to Sallie (Dickie) and Dewey Berry Sr. He later moved to Oklahoma City. During the 1950s he served in the U.S. Army.
After moving to Arkansas City, he worked for Powers Roofing Co.
Survivors include two brothers, Dewey Berry Jr., Oklahoma City, and William Berry, Wichita; and a sister, Vernabelle Pratt, Oklahoma City.
