Marjorie Wilson
ARKANSAS CITY - Marjorie C. Wilson, 85, of Arkansas City, died April 19, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Guy Rendoff will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Wilson was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Liberty Township of Cowley County, to Ella (Devore) and Albert LeRoy Corn. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1930 at age 16 and obtained a teaching certificate and graduated from Cowley County Community College by age 19. She later completed a teaching degree from Southwestern College.
Wilson taught for 42 years in and around Cowley County and retired from Adams Elementary School in Arkansas City in 1975. She then tutored students for over 15 years in her home. Some of her country schools included Bland, Guthrie, Martha Washington, Oak Grove and IXL.
On July 5, 1940, she married William T. Wilson, and they resided in Wellington, Winfield and later Arkansas City. He died in 1978.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and later the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City where she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include two daughters, Madeline Alworth, Tyler, Texas, and Lorraine Fulton, Wichita; two grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Charles Oliver
CEDAR VALE - Charles R. Oliver, 65, of Cedar Vale, died April 23, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Cedar Vale. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the Maude Carpenter Children's Home in Wichita.
Oliver was born Feb. 20, 1935, near Cedar Vale, to Fanny and Woodrow Oliver. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1953. For two years he served in the U.S. Army.
In 1967 he married Betty L. Foster. He retired in 1996 from truck driving. Since then he spent a great deal of time in woodworking.
In 1944 he joined Cedar Vale Church of Christ. He taught a boys' Sunday school class and served as the church's treasurer for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Oliver, and his mother, Fanny Oliver, both of Cedar Vale; a brother, Jerry Oliver, Derby; and two sisters, Lois Rutter, Cedar Vale, and Marge Epperson, Phoenix.
William Sontag
DERBY - William M. "Bill" Sontag Sr., 93, of Derby, died April 22, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Derby. Smith Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church.
Sontag was born March 9, 1907, on a farm near Latham, to Theodosia M. (Thompson) and Louis S. Sontag. He attended a one-room school in Latham and graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of master sergeant. He served four years in China and India.
Sontag was a Midwestern Stainless Steel Cookware Co. franchise owner and a cattle rancher.
Survivors include two sons, David Sontag, Wichita, and William Sontag Jr., Derby; four daughters, Greta Sontag, Cripple Creek, Colo., Theresa Sontag and Stephanie Haney, both of Derby, and Charlotte Strouse, Dallas; and nine grandchildren.
Martha Brown
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. - Martha Elaine (Youle) Brown, 76, of Sun City West, died April 12, 2000, at Sun Health Hospice.
Services were held April 17 at Willowbrook United Methodist Church, 19390 N. 99th Ave., Sun City, AZ 85373.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the church or to Sun Health Hospice, 127740 N. Plaza del Rio Blvd., Peoria, AZ 85381.
Brown was born in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School and Southwestern College. A homemaker, she moved to Arizona in 1977 and was a member of Willowbrook United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Winton Brown, Sun City; a daughter, Marcia Monteith, Germany; a son, Ronald Brown, Colorado; a sister, Louise Wilson, Wichita; and eight grandchildren. Winfield relatives are a niece, Patty Martin, and two nephews, Robert Parsons and Dr. David Parsons.
Raymond Oldham
ARNOLD, Mo. - Raymond K. Oldham Sr., 73, of Arnold, died April 16, 2000.
Oldham was born in Winfield in 1926 to Yancie and Ollie Oldham. He graduated from Winfield High School where he was a member of the band.
Survivors include his wife, Donna J. Oldham, Arnold; two sons, Raymond K. Oldham Jr. and Donald Oldham; two daughters, Victoria Hollenbeck and Diana Barber; a sister, Vera Ingles; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Carondelet Corps., 3601 Weber Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.
Clifford McCoskey
ALTAMONT - Clifford Lee McCoskey, 64, of Altamont, formerly of Udall, died April 25, 2000, at Freeman West of Joplin, Mo., after a short illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Altamont Independent Baptist Church. Pastor Robert Pruitt will officiate, and F.L. Norris will give the eulogy. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at Bath Funeral Home at Altamont.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
McCoskey was born Sept. 25, 1935, to Pearl G. (Neese) and Louis H. McCoskey of rural Howard. He graduated from Altoona High School and received a drafting specialist diploma from the United States Air Force by correspondence and a piping and mapping diploma from Wichita Drafting College. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree in vocational-technical education from Pittsburg State University.
McCoskey worked for Boeing Aircraft and Watkins Steel, both in Wichita; was an engineering aide for the State of Kansas at McConnell Air Force Base and was project engineer for Campbell & Castle Engineers in Wichita. He retired from a 30-year career of teaching drafting at Labette County High School in May 1998.
He was a member of the Independent Baptist Church of Altamont and the Altamont Masonic Lodge and chairman of the Altamont City Planning Commission.
On Aug. 30, 1958, he married Anita Risdon in Wichita. They moved to Altamont in 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Anita McCoskey, and a son, Todd McCoskey, both of Altamont; a daughter, Rita Lawson, Miami, Okla.; two brothers, Robert McCoskey and Lynn McCoskey, and a sister, Blanche F. Brown, all of Wichita; and five grandchildren.
Harriet Hicks
WICHITA - Harriet C. Hicks, 72, of Wichita, died April 26, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ in Wichita. Jackson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Hicks was a retired nurse's assistant and had worked at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Hicks, Wichita; two brothers, Tray White and Sam White, both of Cincinnati; five sisters, Effie Blanding, Cleveland, Lottie Smith and Amy Jones, both of Detroit, Letha Upshaw, Cincinnati, and Gladys Elliott, Winfield; and one grandchild.
Bud Scott
HOWARD - Ajunior Larson "Bud" Scott, 76, of Howard, died April 29, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Rev. Tony Pameticky will officiate. Carter-Rader American Legion Post 149 will conduct military services in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Scott was born June 28, 1923, in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Mamie Louise (Kurtz) and Sophus Larsen Scott. He attended schools in Colorado and Idaho and graduated from high school in Englewood, Colo.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy.
On Dec. 4, 1946, he married Dorothy Evelyn Nickel in Englewood.
Scott worked as an automobile mechanic for most of his life and was employed by USD 282 in Howard for several years.
He attended the Baptist Church throughout his life.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Scott, and a daughter, Pat Harrod, both of Howard; a brother, Harry Scott, Pioche, Nev.; two sisters, Carrie Spencer, Las Vegas, and Lucy Mae Stoppel, North Glen, Colo.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
William Peters
AMARILLO, Texas - William "Bill" Rice Peters, 60, of Amarillo, died April 29, 2000.
Services were scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Arden Road Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Bigham officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery. Schooler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, District Office, 3915 Bell Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79109.
Peters was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Detroit. He served in the United States Navy. In 1963 he married Patricia Ann Harmon in Winfield.
Peters lived in Albuquerque, N.M., for 13 years before moving to Amarillo in 1974. He worked as an engineer for Sandia National Laboratories at Pantex.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Peters, and two sons, Matthew R. Peters and Michael J. Peters, all of Amarillo; a sister, Elizabeth Kinch, Derby; and one grandchild.
