Kenneth Buzzi
ARKANSAS CITY - Kenneth T. Buzzi, 84, of Arkansas City, died March 10, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at 2 p.m March 11 at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Boyer officiated. Burial was in Newkirk City Cemetery.
Contributions can be made for the Kenneth T. Buzzi Memorial Gardens which will be created in Arkansas City.
Buzzi was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Arkansas City, to June (Tilton) and Edward Buzzi. He was raised in Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1935.
On Jan. 13, 1936, he married Ada Katherine Boyer in Guthrie, Okla. They made their home in Arkansas City.
Buzzi worked for the Kan-O-Tex, APCO and Total refineries, all in Arkansas City. He began working for the plant in the 1930s as a pipefitter's helper and retired as a supervisor in the 1980s.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Buzzi, Arkansas City; a son, Lloyd Buzzi, Las Vegas; a sister, Isabelle Allen, Cleveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Vita Crain
ARKANSAS CITY - Vita Hannah Crain, 98, of Arkansas City, died March 11, 2000, at Medicalodge East Health Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Sherman Beasterfeld, the Rev. Emory Day and Elder Sam O. Crain will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church Bell Choir and the First Baptist Church Funeral Dinner Committee. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Crain was born Oct. 24, 1901, in Aurora, Ill., to Elizabeth Hannah "Annie" (Williamson) and Matthew William Naden. She attended Rose Valley Rural School and Arkansas City High School.
On Feb. 26, 1921, she married Owen Crain in Arkansas City. The couple moved to a farm east of Arkansas City in 1928 and stayed there all their married lives. Her husband died in 1980.
Crain was a homemaker, cook and pianist. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and Gleaners Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Gustafson, Gary, Ind., and Darlene Brown, Arkansas City; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A son, Sam L. Crain, preceded her in death.
Olive Kappler
MAPLE CITY - Services for Olive Elaine Kappler were held at 10:30 a.m. March 11, 2000, in Maple City Cemetery. The Rev. Norman Reeves officiated. Randy and Linda Norris sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were James and Steve Pettigrew, Tag Batdorf, Jay Banister Jr., Bill Marker and Joe McFall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Olive Kappler Memorial Scholarship for Cedar Vale and Dexter students attending Cowley County Community College.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Leo Eastman
Leo J. Eastman, 88, of Route 2, Winfield, died March 11, 2000, at Cumbernauld Village.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 9 tonight.
Memorials have been established with Central Baptist Church and Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made at the church or funeral home.
Eastman was born Aug. 26, 1911, on a farm near Wilmot, to Belle (Bowen) and Henry Eastman. He attended Wilmot rural schools and at the age of 17 began his career with the Frisco Railroad.
On Aug. 31, 1933, he married Thelma F. Floyd in Newkirk. They lived in Wilmot before moving to Beaumont. They later lived in various locations in Oklahoma before returning to Winfield in 1946. He retired from Frisco on June 28, 1974, following 47 years' service as a section foreman and engine mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Eastman, Winfield; his sons, Jack Eastman, Onettia, and Ronald Eastman and Donald Eastman, both of Winfield; a daughter, Patricia Ann Smith, Winfield; a brother, Cecil Eastman, Winfield; two sisters, Ruby Wagner, Desoto, Texas, and Hilda Stewart, Wichita; 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Gray.
Joseph Graham
AUGUSTA - Joseph L. Graham, 73, of Augusta, died March 11, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Augusta United Methodist Church. The Rev. Vern Bowers will officiate, and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Dunford Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with the endowment fund of Horizon United Methodist Center near Arkansas City and the United Methodist Church in Augusta.
Graham was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Oilton, Okla., to Altha Mildred (McVay) and Burrell Graham.
A veteran of World War II, he married Dorothy Lenz in Augusta on June 25, 1949.
Graham worked at the Mobil refinery before his retirement. He later served as manager of Horizon United Methodist Center.
He was a member of the Augusta United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Graham, Augusta; two daughters, Teresa Bressler, Happy, Texas, and Peggy Schmidt, Newton; a brother, Donald Graham, Beatrice, Neb.; two sisters, Rhea Graham, Hutchinson, and Nola Blinn, Topeka; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Louesa Lauppe
Louesa May Lauppe, 95, of Good Samaritan Village, Winfield, died March 10, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery
in Ellinwood.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 tonight at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established with Trinity Lutheran Church.
Lauppe was born May 10, 1904, to Julia May (Lindenman) and James Watkins. She was raised and educated in Chanute, Ellinwood and other Kansas towns.
On Feb. 25, 1925, she married George Adolph Seiker. He died March 3, 1958.
On June 23, 1967, she married Harold Lauppe. He also preceded her in death.
A member of Trinity Lutheran church, she had lived at Good Samaritan Village for 10 years.
Survivors include two stepsons, Dwain Lauppe, Winfield, and George M. Lauppe, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Darlene Hunt, Lawrence; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Jo Ann Erickson, died Sept. 23, 1993.
Ruth Bridges
ARKANSAS CITY - Ruth Bridges, 81, of Arkansas City, died March 12, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight and until the service Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with the Arkansas City Senior Center. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Bridges was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Bartlesville, Okla., to Amelia Ann (Hall) and Willis Jerome Keithly. She was raised in the Bartlesville area.
On Nov. 6, 1937, she married John Will Bridges in Bartlesville. They lived in Bartlesville until moving to the Houston-Galveston, Texas, area during World War II. They moved to Arkansas City in 1945. Her husband died July 14, 1993.
Survivors include a son, John R. Bridges, and a daughter, Norma Jean Sexton, both of Arkansas City; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Keith Sedam
Keith Timothy Sedam, 32, of Winfield, died March 12, 2000, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Ponca City.
The family will host a memorial service later. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.
Sedam was born June 30, 1967, in Wichita, to Marion Marvin Sedam and Martha Ellen Hankins Goatley. He attended school in both Wichita and Ponca City.
On June 30, 1992, he married Mindy Lynn Reeves in Arkansas City. He had been employed as a certified nurse's assistant and had also worked in construction.
Sedam was a member of the First United Pentecostal Holiness Church, the National Rifle Association, the National Wildlife Society and REACT.
Survivors include his wife, Mindy Lynn Sedam, and three daughters, Katereena Renea Sedam, Jewell Ellen Sedam and Kimberly Lynn Sedam, all of Winfield; his mother and stepfather, Martha Ellen and Bob Goatley, Ponca City; his father, Marion Marvin Sedam Sr., Wichita; two brothers, Eugene Earl Sedam Sr. and Curtis Lewayne Sedam Sr., both of Ponca City; and a sister, Carol Sue Sedam, Winfield.
