Ernest Golightley
Ernest "Bill" Golightley, 87, of Winfield, died Oct. 29, 1999, in Wichita.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. The Revs. Richard Rogers and Ernie Bishop officiated. Burial was in Belle Plaine Cemetery
under the direction of Hatfield-Smith Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established with the Belle Plaine Church of Christ.
Golightley was born Feb. 6, 1912, in Belle Plaine, to George and Frances (Carrier) Golightley.
He farmed for many years and was employed by the Sumner County Highway Department for 25 years.
On June 30, 1990, he married Louise Kimsey Sturm in Winfield.
A member of the Belle Plaine Church of Christ, he was also a 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Golightley, Winfield; a son, Kenneth Golightley, a daughter, Ernestine Bishop, and a stepson, Frank Sturm, all of Belle Plaine; two stepdaughters, Helen Buck, Winfield, and Pamela Sturm, Kansas City; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Eugene Walker
ARKANSAS CITY - Eugene D. Walker, 73, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 29, 1999, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Walker was born June 25, 1926, in Winfield, to Doc and Bessie (Irvin) Walker. He attended Winfield schools.
In September 1945 he married Flora Mae Lewis in Winfield.
Walker moved to Denver where he was employed as a sheet metal fabricator in a foundry. He also worked for Carl Medlin Trucking Service in Denver. In 1994 he retired due to illness and returned to Winfield.
He was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Winfield.
Survivors include his former wife, Flora Mae; six sons, Doug Walker, Dodge City, Harold Walker and Henry Walker, both of Winfield, Gerald Walker and Roy Walker, both of Arkansas City, and Leslie Walker, Andover; three sons from a previous marriage to Norma Carter, Joseph Walker and Kevin Walker, both of Arkansas City, and Christopher Walker, Denver; five daughters, Mary Brooks, Israel, Mae Jackson, Kansas City, Mo., Kay Cain and Karen Berry, both of Arkansas City, and Lisa Hall, China, Texas; a sister, Jane Bowen, Santa Cruz, Calif.; 34 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Junior Nettrouer
DEXTER - Services for Junior E. Nettrouer were held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 30, 1999, at Dexter Baptist Church. The Rev. Babe Standerfer officiated. Cremation has taken place
Keith Anglemyer was the organist. Arlan and Wilma Anglemyer sang "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were Roy Barger, Bob Bilyeu, Bill Marker, Bud Nitschke, Mutt Redford, Skip Redford, Don Roberts and Larry Womacks.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the American Cancer Society.
MIles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Leland Brier
ARKANSAS CITY - Leland C. Brier, 83, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 31, 1999, at his home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Caldwell City Cemetery. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate.
Memorials have been established with Redeemer Lutheran Church and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be left at Hawks Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening until 9.
Brier was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Wichita, to Solon C. and Margaret Jane (Nixon) Brier. He was raised in Wichita and graduated from East High School.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 until 1945 in the South Pacific.
On Oct. 19, 1952, he married L. Margaret Larsen in Wichita.
He worked as a machinist for Product Manufacturing of Wichita before he retired.
The Briers moved to Arkansas City in 1978. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans of America.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Brier, and two daughters, Margaret Kendrick and Thelma Carlson, all of Arkansas City; two grandchildren he helped raise, Marla K. Sparks, Arkansas City, and Jack Dull, Wichita; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and nine stepgrandchildren.
Kenneth Green
BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Retired United States Air Force Col. Kenneth E. Green, 63, of Belleville, died Oct. 29, 1999, in Belleville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline. The Rev. Edward Steinberger will officiate. Burial will be later in Mount Olivet Cemetery
at Moline.
Visitation will be held until 8 tonight at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. A Rosary service will be held at 8 tonight at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established with Holy Child School of Mascautah, Ill. Contributions may be left with the funeral home.
Green was born May 2, 1936, at St. Paul, N.C., to Thomas and Sallie (Edge) Green. He graduated from high school and had five years of higher education. He served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam and in the World Wide Evacuation Corps.
In December 1956, he married Grace M. Welch in Frankfort, Germany. They made their home in places throughout the world before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Green, Belleville; two sons, Kenneth Green Jr., Atlanta, Ga., and Kelly Green, Belleville; two brothers, Thomas Green Jr., Solon, Maine, and Henry Green, Broadway, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Hudgins, Raleigh, N.C., and Hazel Green, Mebane, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
Richard Porterfield
ARKANSAS CITY - Richard David Porterfield Sr., 63, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 31, 1999, in Arkansas City.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Hope Cemetery
at Independence. Hawks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests contributions be made for expenses.
Porterfield was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Independence, to Harvey Elbert and Emilie (Ross) Porterfield. He was raised in Independence and later moved to Georgia where he attended school.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He then worked in Oklahoma oil fields and later drove a truck for 25 years.
Porterfield lived in the Plainview, Ark., area and Glendale, Ariz., before moving to Arkansas City last summer.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Richard David Porterfield Jr., Arkansas City; a daughter, Kathleen Porterfield, Independence; an adopted son, Gary Porterfield, Balko, Okla.; his mother, Emilie Cowan, Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Shirley Wells, Jonesboro, Ga., and Virginia Meserve, Phoenix; and two granddaughters.
Addie McCartney
BLACKWELL, Okla. - Addie L. McCartney, 81, of Blackwell, died Oct. 29, 1999, at Blackwell Regional Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell. The Rev. Joe Burger will officiate. Burial will be in Blackwell Cemetery. Casket bearers will be David Kelley, Mark Short and Ty Short.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

McCartney was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Portales, N.M., to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leonard. During the Depression, she moved with her family to various states, including New Mexico, Utah and Oklahoma.
She married John L. McCartney in Roswell, N.M., and they settled in New Mexico before moving to Texas for a short time. On Dec. 25, 1941, they moved to Winfield where she worked at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center until retiring in 1982. Her husband died in 1974.
McCartney moved to Blackwell in 1993 to be near her daughter. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell.
Survivors include two sons, Steve McCartney, Helena, Mont., and James McCartney, Billings, Okla.; two daughters, Terri Short, Blackwell, and Mary Gabbard, Alma, Ark.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dena Heeren
Dena Heeren, 101, of Good Samaritan Village in Winfield, died Nov. 1, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Lakewood Cemetery
in Waubay, S.D., under the guidance of Fiksdal Funeral Service.
Visitation will be until 7:30 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Association and can be sent in care of the local funeral home.
Heeren was born Feb. 10, 1898, in German Valley, Ill., to Louis and Julia (Bokker) Rave.
On Dec. 10, 1919, she married Harry Heeren in Dell Rapids, S.D. He died on March 12, 1967.
A homemaker, Mrs. Heeren moved to Winfield in 1987 and to Good Samaritan Village in 1992.
She had been a member of the United Church of Christ in Waubay since 1926 and was recently honored for having had the longest membership in the Waubay American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Harriet Easterling, Castro Valley, Calif., Lucille Stoll, Piedmont, S.D., and Margaret Piel, Winfield; a sister, Maggie Nelson, Flandreau, S.D.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bernice Coker
WELLINGTON - Bernice Mildred Coker, 90, of Wellington, died Nov. 1, 1999, at her home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Day Funeral Home. Pastor Bobby Clontz will officiate. Burial will be in Corzine Cemetery
in Corbin.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday.

Coker was born May 14, 1909, in Clarinda, Iowa, to George and Olive (Alt) Sargent.
On March 24, 1933, she married Delmar Coker in Anthony. They farmed for many years until their retirement in 1988. Mr. Coker died on April 13, 1989.
The Cokers moved to Wellington 13 years ago after having lived in Corbin and Caldwell.
Mrs. Coker was a member of the Corbin United Methodist Church where she had cooked for the annual turkey dinners for many years and the Oxford Maple Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Gilbert Coker, Wichita, and Ronald Coker and Donald Coker, both of Wellington; two sisters, Clara Hess, Caldwell, and Fern Duncan, Winfield; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
