Kathleen Stout
Services for Kathleen E. Stout, 78, who died Sept. 2, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Dennis King officiated. Burial was in Wilmot Cemetery.
Music selections included "Peace in the Valley," "Angels Among Us" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Casket bearers were Rod Campbell, Steve Davenport, Michael Shklar and Dwaine, Jonathon and Rick Stout.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Louise Eddie
ARKANSAS CITY - Louise Eddie, 89, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 8, 1999, at Presbyterian Manor Health Care Center.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A memorial has been established with the Friends Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Eddie was born May 10, 1910, in Alex, Okla., to Joseph William and Anna Dyer. After graduating from high school in Lehigh, Okla., she moved to Arkansas City.
Her first husband, Max Clark, died a few months after their marriage.
On Sept. 3, 1942, she married Gilbert E. Eddie in Medford, Okla. They farmed for many years and lived near Lake Louise. He died May 21, 1990.
Eddie was a member of the Friends Church, the Order of Eastern Star and the ladies' auxiliaries of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include a stepson, Kenneth Eddie, Mabank, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Gerald Godsey
Services for Gerald D. "Jerry" Godsey, 71, who died Sept. 6, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Rick Thornton, Fred Houston and Ron Keith officiated.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Masonic Lodge 172 performed graveside services.
Carolyn Eastman was the organist and pianist. Martin Rude was the soloist, and the United Methodist Men's Chorus also sang. The music included "Spirit Song," "Here I Am, Lord" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Casket bearers were Gene Sawyer, Melvin Current, Ken Legleiter, Bob Dawson, Dan Defore Sr. and Curtis Dick.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church Organ Fund and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the church or Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Lonna Hill
GREELEY - Lonna L. Hill, 59, of Greeley, died Sept. 5, 1999, at her residence.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Robert Pool officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery.
Sharon Mader was the organist, and Ann Lutz was the soloist. Selections included "The Rose," "My Heart Will Go On" and "You'll Never Walk Alone," recorded by Shirley Hill, "Songs of the Angels" and "How Great Thou Art."
Casket bearers were Carl Guilfoyle, Joe Mader, Nick Kratzberg, Pat Rockers, Gary Spencer and Marlin McGowin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lonna Hill Memorial Fund or to Anderson County St. Luke's Shawnee Mission Hospice.
Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels Inc., Garnett, was in charge of arrangements.
Hill was born July 16, 1940, in Winfield, to Charles D. and Dorothy L. (May) Moore. She graduated from high school in Burden.
On Dec. 1, 1962, she married Herman Hill in Westphalia. They moved to Greeley in 1965. A medical transcriptionist, she most recently drove a school bus.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Hill, Greeley; three daughters, Linda Hill, Greeley, Shirley Hill, Edgerton, and Sue Page, Parker; two brothers, Charles D. Moore and J. Wesley Moore, both of Winfield; and three grandchildren.
Lynel DeLano
Lynel E. "Mike" DeLano, 69, of 315 Houston, Winfield, died Sept. 10, 1999, at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and Hospice Inc.
Born Nov. 26, 1929, in El Dorado, DeLano was a son of James Albert and Rilda M. (Patterson) DeLano. He attended El Dorado schools and was employed in apple orchards in Chelan, Wash.
On May 7, 1950, he married Joy Bartlett in Winfield. The couple moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.
The couple then returned to Winfield, and DeLano began his career as a sheet metal assembler at Beech Aircraft Co. in Wichita. He retired in 1991.
After retirement the couple enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Texas.
DeLano is survived by his wife, Joy DeLano, Winfield; his son, Steve DeLano, Houston; two daughters, Tammy McCleave and Cindy Taylor, both of Wichita; a brother, James Albert DeLano Jr., Alma, Ark.; a sister, Mereim Lulu Broadway, Susanville, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
Rosemary Kaul
DERBY - Rosemary Kaul, 82, of Derby, died Sept. 9, 1999, in Derby.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Revs. Shawn McKnight, Jeffery Fasching and Mike Maybrier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery
in Winfield.
Friends may call at Smith Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Kaul was born July 5, 1917, in Wichita, to Herbert and Louise (Nugent) Purnell.
She was a nurse at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center before her retirement.
Her husband, Merle Frank Kaul, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Kaul, Derby, and Michael J. Kaul, St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Gene Purnell, Lincoln, Ore.; a sister, Phyllis Strong, San Francisco; and four grandchildren.
Fannie Stone
ARKANSAS CITY - Fannie Stone, 84, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 10, 1999, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Central Christian Church. The Revs. Steve R. Chambers and Harry Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with Central Christian Church.
Stone was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Houston, Mo., to Ora "Pidge" and Eva (May) Clark. She was raised and educated in the Otto and Dexter areas. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1934 and attended beauty college in Wichita.
On June 27, 1936, she married Oliver F. Stone in Wichita. The couple made their home in Wichita and Hutchinson before moving to Arkansas City in 1948.
A homemaker, she was a longtime member of the Central Christian Church and the Helpmates Class. She was also a former Girl Scout leader and former Arkansas City Memorial Hospital Gray Lady, past president of the Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Home National Bank Heritage Club.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver Stone, and a daughter, Judith Ann Wampler, both of Arkansas City; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A son, Steven Dale Stone, preceded her in death.
Bessie Smith
ARKANSAS CITY - Bessie F. Smith, 96, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 9, 1999, at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Dexter Christian Church. Pastor Norman Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Smith was born Aug. 24, 1903, in Burden, to John W. and Melinda A. (Williams) Lower. She was raised and educated in the Burden area.
On Feb. 19, 1925, she married Benjamin P. Booher in Winfield. They made their home in the Dexter area. Mr. Booher died on May 25, 1961.
In 1963 she moved to Arkansas City. She married Scotty F. Smith on Sept. 29, 1971, in Reno, Nev. He died in December 1982.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City but had been attending the Dexter Christian Church for some time. She was also a member of the Dexter Card Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Maggard, Dexter; four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Martha Faye Musson, preceded her in death.
Merle Pearce
WICHITA - Merle V. Pearce, 77, retired J.L. Case Corp. experimental testing supervisor, died Sept. 10, 1999.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at University Friends Church.
Friends may call at Hillside Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the University Friends Church, Quaker Acres Camp.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pearce, Wichita; two sons, Alan Pearce, Wichita, and Kent Pearce, Fairbanks, Alaska; four brothers, Denzel Pearce, Wichita, Derrel Pearce, Winfield, David Pearce, San Marcos, Calif., and Dean Pearce, Irvington, Ill.; three sisters, Alice Phillippi, Argonia, Doris Kuykendall, Iola, and Joy Kosydar, Siletz, Ore; and one grandchild.
