Shirley Bradford
ROSE HILL - Shirley J. Bradford, 63, homemaker, of Rose Hill, formerly of Winfield, died May 16, 1999.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. May 19 at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Hillside Funeral Home East was in charge of arrangements.
Bradford was born in Winfield in 1935 to Virgil and Ethel (Butler) Kennedy.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Bradford, and a son, Bradley Bradford, both of Rose Hill; two daughters, Kathleen Conley, Rose Hill, and Patricia Ochs, Wichita; two brothers, David Kennedy, Conway, Ark., and Robert Kennedy, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Laura Bost, Goddard, and Linda Crabb, Hutchinson; and six grandchildren.
Cecil Clark
WICHITA - Cecil Robert Clark, 80, of Wichita, retired heavy equipment mechanic, died May 18, 1999, in Wichita.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Funeral Home West Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery
at Bentley at 12:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
After his retirement, Clark spent time in Winfield.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Clark, Wichita, and Gary Clark, Norman, Okla.; a daughter, Shirley J. Thomas, Stockton, Mo.; four brothers, Everett Clark, Clearwater, Merle Clark, Beaumont, Texas, Don Clark, Hereford, Texas, and Bob Clark, Bentley; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Sandra Wham
BURDEN - Sandra Kay Wham, 52, of Burden, died May 17, 1999, at Wichita Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Wham was born July 31, 1946, in Duncan, Okla., to Lyle Franklin Wham Jr. and Mary Ellen (Brown) Wham. She attended school in Duncan before moving to Kansas and graduating from Leon High School.
In 1965 she married Roger Rymer in Wichita. They later divorced.
She resided throughout most of her adult life in Wichita where she was employed by TG&Y Stores, A&W Restaurants, Humpty Dumpty Food Market and Aaronson's Dress Shop. She was employed as a draftswoman for Total Petroleum Co. before her recent retirement due to failing health. She had made her home in Burden for the past few months.
Affiliated with the Bible Baptist Church, Wham had been associated with the March of Dimes and the Brownie Scout program.
Survivors include a son, Ryan D. Rymer, Hays; a daughter, Debra Rymer Kiraly, Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada; her mother and stepfather, Mary Ellen and Ralph Bishop, and a brother, Kyle Wham, all of Burden; and a sister, Judy L. Squier, Wichita.
Leland Cranston
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Leland Woodrow Cranston, of Grand Junction, formerly of Winfield, died May 14, 1999, in Grand Junction.
Cremation has taken place. Cranston's ashes will be scattered over the San Juan Mountains in western Colorado.

Cranston was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Winfield, to Charles and Nettie Cranston. He grew up and continued to live on the family farm east of Winfield.
On May 8, 1949, he married Gladys Jones. He and his family were active in 4-H and the Tisdale Methodist Church. Through the church, he helped organize the first Little United Nations, which was attended by Eleanor Roosevelt. He also helped organize the Lord's Acre Sale at the church.
Cranston was the first president of the Angus Cattlemen's Association in Cowley County and a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
In 1971, he moved to Montrose, Colo., to be the National Motor Club's sales manager for the western slope of Colorado. He retired in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Cranston, Grand Junction; three sons, Gary Cranston, Chadron, Neb., Gregg Cranston, Grand Junction, and Bradd Cranston, Denver; a daughter, Janine Bromley, Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Mildred Safford, Wichita, and Marjorie Sanstrum, Atlanta, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
Cindy Marks
Services for Cindy Angie Marks, 26, who died May 13, 1999, were held at 2 p.m May 18 in the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center Cemetery. Vocal music was "Jesus Loves Me."
A memorial has been established with Southwind Residential Services.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Phillips
Ruth E. Phillips, 89, formerly of 1201 Menor, Winfield, died May 20, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Maple City Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Fire Department's Lifesaving Equipment Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Phillips was born Jan. 13, 1910, on a farm near Glencoe, Okla., to Emery and Lillian Taulbee Wells. She was educated in Oklahoma schools and graduated from Glencoe High School.
In 1926 she married Oliver Richardson. They lived in Oklahoma and Wichita before they divorced.
During the 1930s she married Simeon L. Phillips. They resided in Foraker, Okla., Dexter, Udall and Burden before making their home in Winfield.
Phillips was employed at Brannon Grocery, IGA Grocery, Bird's Rexall Drug Store and Manufacturers Shoe Outlet in Winfield. She served as a foster grandparent for USD 465 from 1991 until 1995.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Phillips had resided at Good Samaritan Village since 1996.
Her husband died in 1967. Three sons, Neal Eugene Phillips, Lester Phillips and Arlen Lee Phillips, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Richardson, Prague, Okla., and Darrell Phillips, Arkansas City; four daughters, Helen Brake, Nadine Edwards and Sharon Bowman, all of Winfield, and Janet Hughes, Frederick, Md.; 27 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Sandra Wham
Services for Sandra Kay Wham were held at 10 a.m. May 21, 1999, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Pastors Gene Gilmore and Marjorie Zook-Reynolds officiated.
Vocal music included "One Day at a Time" and "Peace in the Valley."
Family members served as casket bearers. Interment was in Burden Cemetery.
Lawrence Wilson
MOLINE - Charles Lawrence Wilson, 81, of Moline, died May 21, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Moline United Methodist Church. Kelley Zellner will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Moline United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Wilson was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Moline, to Charles Hayes and Susie (Falkenrich) Wilson. He attended Elk County schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1936. He farmed until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II.
On Sept. 6, 1947, he married O. Estel Hedde in Wichita. They made their home on the family farm two and a half miles west of Moline. In 1981 they moved into Moline.
Survivors include his wife, Estel Wilson, Moline; two sons, Charles Wilson, Wichita, and Frank Wilson, Richmond, Texas; a daughter, Margaret Phillips, Hutchinson; a sister, Greta Barnhart, Wichita; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Phyllis Duff
GRENOLA - Phyllis Ann Duff, 70, longtime resident of Grenola, died May 10, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Grenola.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Jim Sweet will officiate. The remains have been transferred to the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City, Kan.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Oddfellows Eye Bank. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Duff was born May 13, 1928, in Grenola, to Clyde Ishmael and Opal Margaret (Elsheimer) Thompson. She attended Elk County schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1946.
On May 13, 1946, she married John Walter Duff in Moline. A homemaker, she lived with her family in several southeast Kansas communities until retiring in 1981 and returning to Grenola. Mr. Duff died on June 27, 1995.
Mrs. Duff was a member of the Friends of Nature Volksport Club in Grenola, the Grenola Senior Citizens, the Rebekah Lodge in Moline and the Royal Neighbors. During most of her life she was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janis Sinclair, Howard, and Judy Lundy, Grenola; a brother, John Thompson, Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
James Halverstadt
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - James Willard Halverstadt, 84, of Bartlesville, formerly of Oxford and Winfield, died May 21, 1999, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Services were held at 10 a.m. May 24, 1999, at the East Cross United Methodist Church. The Rev. John R. Price and Dr. Dwight Darrah officiated. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. May 24, 1999, in Oxford Cemetery. Stumpff Funeral Home of Bartlesville had charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with East Cross United Methodist Church, 820 SE Madison Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Halverstadt was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Oxford, to Clinton F. and Mayverette (Zering) Halverstadt. He was raised and educated in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School in 1932.
On Oct. 14, 1938, he married Maud Vera Stewart in Halstead. They made their home in Oxford and Winfield until Mr. Halverstadt joined the Santa Fe Railroad at Winslow, Ariz., as a locomotive engineer. The Halverstadts later lived in Winfield and Chanute before moving to Bartlesville in 1967. Mr. Halverstadt retired from the railroad in 1978.
He was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Dewey, Okla., the woodcarving group at the Dewey Adult Center and East Cross United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Upper Room Sunday school class and the church retirees group.
Survivors include his wife, Maud V. Halverstadt, Bartlesville; two sons, Roy Halverstadt, Lawrence, and Don Halverstadt, Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Doris Kourt, Bartlesville; a brother, Lewis Halverstadt, Derby; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Eugene Shaffer
UDALL - Eugene Richard Shaffer, 91, of Udall, died May 20, 1999, in Wellington.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Rose Hill Church of Christ. Jim BaumGardner and Forrest Shaffer officiated. Burial was in Star Valley Cemetery
in Udall.
Senter-Smith Mortuary of Mulvane had charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been suggested to the Church of Christ, Hope, N.M. 88250, and the Maude Carpenter Children's Center.
Shaffer was born May 19, 1908, in Milan, to Charles and Carrie Lura (Sayrs) Shaffer.
On Jan. 8, 1929, he married Beulah Estas Vandervoort. She died Jan. 23, 1991.
A Udall resident since 1950, Mr. Shaffer was a farmer.
Survivors include a son, Neil Shaffer, Udall; a granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
