Maxine Hittle
Maxine A. Hittle, 72, a lifelong Winfield resident, died May 9, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Private services will be held in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Brown will officiate.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the Leukemia Foundation. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Hittle was born March 15, 1927, in Winfield, to Elmer and Mary (Clarke) Taton. She graduated from Winfield High School.
On Oct. 20, 1946, she married Gerald Hittle at the First Christian Church.
Hittle was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Hittle, Winfield, two daughters, Jill Edwards, Winfield, and Mitzi Wells, Derby; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Thelma Brantley
Services for Thelma J. Brantley, 97, who died May 4, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. May 8 at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Warren Smith officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Marilyn Buffum was the organist. "The Lord's Prayer" and "To God Be the Glory" were sung by Rex Beeney. The congregation sang "Walking in Sunlight, All of My Journey."
Honorary casket bearers were Jon Boucher and Millard Kittelson. Casket bearers were Todd Brantley, John Judd, Marcus Land, Derrel Pearce, Don Robison and George Teachman.
Memorials have been established with the children's department of First Baptist Church and Hospice Inc.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Doyle Kemper
ARKANSAS CITY - Doyle Browning Kemper, 85, lifelong resident of Arkansas City, died May 10, 1999, at the home of his son in Topeka following a lengthy illness.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.
Contributions to a memorial fund can be made at the funeral home.
Kemper was born March 11, 1914, in Arkansas City, to Everett Emerson and Mary PauLina (Browning) Kemper. He graduated from Arkansas City High School.
Kemper worked as an operator at the APCO-Total refinery for 30 years before retiring in 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Larry G. Kemper, Topeka, and Robert A. Kemper, Bossier City, La.; a daughter, Janice C. Thornton, Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Louise Rahn, Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
An infant daughter, Lina Merlene Kemper, preceded him in death.
Maxine Foster
CEDAR VALE - E. Maxine Foster, 80, of Cedar Vale, died May 10, 1999, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Vale Church of Christ. The Rev. Chuck Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Grenola Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Maude Carpenter Children's Home and Cedar Vale Community Hospital. Contributions can be made through Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale.
Foster was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Wauneta, to Martin and Arah (Barton) Banning. She was educated in rural schools around Wauneta.
On July 3, 1938, she married Ollen Foster. He died Dec. 22, 1986.
Foster had worked in cafes and was the former owner-operator of the Cozy Corner Cafe in Cedar Vale.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Cedar Vale and the Cedar Vale Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Foster and Betty L. Oliver, and a sister, Wilma Emerson, all of Cedar Vale; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Robert Schooling
Services for Robert H. Schooling, 75, who died May 5, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. May 10 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Rites were conducted by American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 as well as Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.
Music selections were "America the Beautiful" and "Peace in the Valley."
A memorial has been established with American Legion Post 10.
Percy Littles
Services for Percy B. Littles, 52, who died May 4, 1999, were held at 10 a.m. May 10 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Earnest McClure officiated.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military committal ceremonies.
Special music included "I Will Get There" by Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, and "Amazing Grace" by Elder Harper.
Quiana Rowe and Vivian Tapia gave family tributes. Arvenia Hughes read the obituary.
Casket bearers were Paul Clay, Joey Lee, Mike Mosely, Curtis Rowe, Harry Walker and Roy Walker.
A memorial has been established with the Second Baptist Church.
Theresa Perez
CHICAGO - Theresa J. Perez, 55, of Chicago, formerly of Wellington, died May 10, 1999, in Chicago.
The Rosary will be said at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wellington at 7 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. The Rev. Andrew J. Seilor will officiate. Burial will be in Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington.
Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Frank Funeral Home.

Perez was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Borger, Texas, to Tobias and Tiburcia Ramirez. She graduated from Wellington High School.
For over 30 years she worked in the production department of Brach's Candy Co.
Survivors include her husband, Carlos Perez Sr., Chicago; two sons, Michael Perez, Chicago, and Carlos Ramirez, Justice, Ill.; two daughters, Liza Perez and Christina Perez, both of Chicago; her father, Tobias Ramirez, Wellington; 10 brothers, Joe Ramirez, Newton, Antonio Ramirez, Winfield, Manuel Ramirez, Paul Ramirez and Raymond Ramirez, all of Wellington, Larry Ramirez, Wichita, Sebastian Ramirez, Burbank, Calif., Victor Ramirez, Newkirk, John Ramirez, Shreveport, La., and Thomas Ramirez, Castaic, Calif.; a sister, Dolores Rodriguez, Wichita; and five grandchildren.
Lucile Guthrie
BELLE PLAINE - Lucile M. Guthrie, 80, of Belle Plaine, died May 10, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Belle Plaine. The Rev. Steve Souther will officiate. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Guthrie was born Aug. 5, 1918, near Dexter, to W.M. "Billy" and Anna Grace (Cochran) Radcliff. Raised in the Dexter area, she received her early education in the Star Valley rural school and graduated from Dexter High School in 1936.
On May 19, 1939, she married John J. Guthrie in Winfield. They lived in Leon and Burden, and Guthrie lived in Winfield while her husband served in World War II. While in Winfield, she worked at Safeway grocery store.
Following the war, the Guthries lived in Wellington before moving to Belle Plaine in 1948. Guthrie was first employed at Wenrich Appliance Store and later worked at the Family Food Center until her retirement in 1979.
The Guthries were preparing for their 60th wedding anniversary which would have been May 19.
Guthrie was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Plaine. She was a 60-year member of Chapter 125 of the Order of Eastern Star for which she was a past matron, past grand representative and past district aide. She had also served as president of the auxiliary of American Legion Post 211 of Belle Plaine.
Survivors include her husband, John Guthrie, Belle Plaine, and a sister, Helen Brazle, Winfield.
Marjorie Goode
Services for Marjorie Oma Goode, 81, who died May 6, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. May 11 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Mark Boxman officiated. Burial was in Round Mound Cemetery
near Cedar Vale.
Vocal music selections were "Amazing Grace," performed by Bela Fleck, "Angels," performed by Sarah McLachlan, "In the Garden," performed by Tennessee Ernie Ford, and "One Day at a Time," performed by Cristy Lane.
Casket bearers were Goode's grandchildren and other family members.
Memorials have been established with the Cedar Vale Baptist Church and the Wauneta Methodist Church.
Vance Hays
Services for Vance William Hays, 65, who died May 4, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. May 13 in Rose Valley Cemetery
southeast of Winfield. "Amazing Grace" was sung.
A memorial has been established with Southwind Residential Services in Winfield.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Jo Long
ASHEBORO, N.C. - Betty Jo Long, 60, of Asheboro, formerly of Winfield, died May 12, 1999, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Long was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Drakesboro, Ky., to Jack and Mildred Smith. She was raised and educated in Kentucky.
A homemaker, she resided in Winfield from 1982 to 1995 when she moved to North Carolina.
She was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Winfield and an active affiliate of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include three sons, Greg McGuire, Jamie McGuire and Mike Miller, all of Winfield; a daughter, Shirley Darwish, Asheboro, N.C.; a brother, David Wright, Tampa, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.
