Cleo Bowser
ARKANSAS CITY - Cleo Frederick Bowser, 87, retired Santa Fe Railway foreman and switchman, of Arkansas City, died April 11, 1999, at Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Boxman will officiate. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Bowser was born Feb. 12, 1912, southeast of Winfield, to Bert R. and Goldie (Crabtree) Bowser. When he was 12, the family moved to Arkansas City where he attended school.
On Feb. 8, 1929, he married Gertrude Augustus Akers in Arkansas City. They lived there until moving to Newkirk in 1990. She died July 17, 1994.
Bowser married Nellie T. Jeffrey Matoy on March 29, 1995, in Newkirk. They moved to Arkansas City in the fall of 1998.
Bowser was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years and helped in the church's construction in 1941. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Newkirk and was also a member of NARVE.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Bowser, Arkansas City; a son, Duane R. Bowser, Newkirk; three daughters, Betty Greenhagen, Newkirk, Virginia Cleaver, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Ramona Wilde, Collinsville, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Virgil Kennedy
Services for Virgil Oswald Kennedy, 99, who died April 6, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. April 9 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
June Vasey was the organist. Wilma Anglemyer sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Casket bearers were Mike Conley, Jim Morrison, Mike McIlroy, David Roberts Jr., Jim Roberts, Dan Ochs, Robert Kennedy Jr. and Bradley Bradford.
William Langenwalter
WICHITA - William R. Langenwalter, 34, of Wichita, died April 9, 1999.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Downing & Lahey Mortuary East Chapel.
Memorials have been established with Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Road, Wichita, KS 67206, and Cowley County Mental Health Association, First National Bank Building, Winfield, KS 67156.
Langenwalter was born Sept. 27, 1964, in Wichita, to Robert G. and Dorothy (Hodgson) Langenwalter.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Carolyn Langenwalter of Winfield and Dorothy Langenwalter of Wichita; a brother, Peter Langenwalter, Winfield; and three sisters, Nancy Lynch, Beauford, N.C., Betsy McCroskey, Overland Park, and Wendy Thompson, Wichita.
Maude McCray
WICHITA - Maude Louise McCray, 83, retired music teacher, of Wichita, died April 10, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus.
Cremation has taken place. Private services will be held later. Graves-Baird Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.
McCray was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Moline, to Herbert Ellsworth and Georgia Pearl (Havenar) McCray.
She was a member of the Sedan Epiphany Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a nephew, George Elwin McCray Jr., Las Vegas; two nieces, Sue Barr and Paula Barr, both of Aurora, Colo.; and two cousins, Ramona Sue Perkins, Howard, and Hoyt Hull, Tulsa, Okla.
Patricia Ward
WICHITA - Patricia A. Ward, 53, cosmetologist, died April 10, 1999.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church. Broadway Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Ward, a son, Scott Ward, and a daughter, Denise Ward, all of Wichita; a brother, Thomas Ozbun, Winfield; a sister, Bonita Hizar, Dodge City; and five grandchildren.
Wanda Mills
OKMULGEE, Okla. - Wanda I. Mills, 74, of Okmulgee, formerly of Winfield, died April 6, 1999, at Rebold Manor.
Services were held at 3 p.m. April 9 in Okmulgee Cemetery. Dr. Bob Burch officiated. McClendon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mills was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Winfield, to Walter and Evalena (Graham) Grant.
She married Ernest Linwood "Jim" Mills Jr. He preceded her in death.
Mills had worked at Pomona Tile at Strother Field for several years. She retired from East Central Electric in January 1992.
She attended Second Baptist Church in Okmulgee.
Survivors include a son, Greg Mills, Okmulgee; a daughter, Jan C. Mills, Beggs, Okla.; two brothers, Wayne Grant and Jack Grant, both of Winfield; and nine grandchildren.
A son, Ernest "Gene" Mills preceded her in death.
George Lentz
George Cecil Lentz, 98, of 716 N. Tweed, Winfield, died April 11, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery
in Wichita.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until noon Thursday.

Lentz was born Nov. 17, 1900, on a farm near Garber, Okla., to John James and Elizabeth Ann (Bostian) Lentz. He attended rural schools in Oklahoma and entered apprentice training with Santa Fe railroad when he was 17.
On Dec. 23, 1926, he married Helen Mae Utz in Newton. They resided in Wichita until March 1994 when they moved to Winfield. His wife died April 2, 1994.
Lentz was employed as a welder for Santa Fe Railway in Wichita and Newton for 47 years before retiring in 1964.
A longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Wichita, he helped build the church's present sanctuary in 1950-51. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church in Winfield since 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeannine Foster, Winfield; two granddaughters, Carol Foster, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Cynthia Zollars, San Antonio, Texas; and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth McLeod
ARKANSAS CITY - Ruth Arlee McLeod, 78, of Arkansas City, died April 11, 1999, at her residence.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Guy E. Rendoff and John Decker will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant View Cemetery
in Oskaloosa.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
McLeod was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Oskaloosa, to Enoch Earl and Ruth Monica (Decker) Fish. She was raised in Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1939. In 1942 she graduated from the University of Kansas where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
On Dec. 14, 1942, she married Dr. Stewart N. McLeod in Oskaloosa. After World War II, they made their home in Texas and Oklahoma. In 1955 they moved to Arkansas City where they operated McLeod Animal Hospital and raised registered quarter horses.
McLeod was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas McLeod, Shawnee; a daughter, Jill Cooksey, Lucas, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Boyd Robinson
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Boyd E. "Gene" Robinson, 53, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Winfield, died April 12, 1999, at his home following an illness.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. The Revs. James Terrell and Gary Gilmore will officiate. Burial will be in the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery
at Mount Vernon.
Friends may call at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home from 7 to 8 tonight.
Memorials have been established with the Freistatt Lions Club and the Kingsway Christian Church.
Robinson was born Aug. 27, 1945, in Winfield, to Alfred Boyd and Lela Marie (Hippensteel) Robinson. He attended school in Mount Vernon and moved to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1960.
On Oct. 9, 1965, he married Paula Stephens at Cape Fair, Mo.
In 1995 he retired as transportation manager for the Nestle Co. and returned to Mount Vernon.
Robinson was a member of the Freistatt Lions Club and the Kingsway Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Robinson, Mount Vernon; three sons, Steven Robinson, Kansas City, Mo., Scott Robinson, Mount Vernon, and PFC Shane Robinson, Fort Drum, N.Y.; two brothers, Cecil Robinson, Phoenix, and Larry Robinson, McCurtain, Okla.; a sister, Cathy Robinson, Winfield; and twin granddaughters.
Alta Ryan
Alta M. Ryan, 87, longtime Winfield resident, died April 12, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Riverview Cemetery
in Arkansas City.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and until noon Friday.

Ryan was born May 5, 1911, on a farm near Atlanta, to Robert A. and Jesse F. (Herrin) Wright. She was raised and educated first in Atlanta and then in Arkansas City where she attended high school.
In 1930 she married John W. Ryan. They made their first home in Arkansas City and then lived in Latham. They later moved to Norton where her husband was a patient at the Norton Tuberculosis Sanatorium for 12 years. During that time, she worked at the sanatorium. Her husband died in October 1960.
Norton moved to Winfield in 1961. She was employed as a psychiatric aide at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for 16 years until her retirement in 1977. She had also been employed at the Whitehall Nursing Home.
A resident of Winfield for nearly 38 years, she lived with her daughter for several months before moving to Good Samaritan in December 1997.
She was affiliated with the former United Brethren Church in Arkansas City.
Survivors include her daughter, Gene Peacock, Winfield; a brother, Winton "Bud" Stickel, Ponca City; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A son, J.D. Ryan, preceded her in death.
