Christine Nofsinger
OXFORD - Christine F. Nofsinger, 97, longtime resident of Oxford, died Feb. 15, 1999, at Riverview Manor.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Oxford Christian Church. The Rev. Danny Ginn will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Frank Funeral Home in Wellington from 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Nofsinger was born Nov. 7, 1901, in Tonkawa, Okla., to Winfred and Lula Del (Wassen) Morrill. On May 1, 1923, she married Jesse Nofsinger in Tonkawa.
A homemaker, she had lived in Oxford most of her life and was active in the Oxford Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Della June Dove, Oxford, and two grandchildren.
Her husband, a daughter and a son preceded her in death.
Gerald Mann
ANDOVER - William Gerald Mann, 89, formerly of Grenola, died Feb. 16, 1999, at the Andover Health Care Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Greenlawn Cemetery
at Grenola. Pastor Wallace Wartick and Thomas Kessinger will officiate. Judy Perrigo will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder."
A memorial has been established with the Grenola Christian Church. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Mann was born March 5, 1909, in Grenola, to John William and Mabel Frances (Hawkins) Mann. After his mother died when he was nine years old, his father married Sarah Alice Snair. He attended Wolf Creek and Canola rural schools near Grenola and graduated from Grenola High School.
On Dec. 26, 1929, he married Gladys Mae Thompson in Winfield. He lived in Wyoming for a brief time but lived most of his life in the Grenola area where he farmed. After the death of his wife on Nov. 23, 1981, he moved to Wichita to be near his family.
Mann was a longtime member of the Grenola Christian Church.
Survivors include his companion, Louise Cordell, Wichita; three daughters, Jacqueline Endicott, Greensburg, and Betty Linder and Sharon Sobba, both of Wichita; seven grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 17 stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Sheila Gould
Services for Sheila Gaye Gould, 57, who died Feb. 12, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 17 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Keith Cross and Lynn Blair officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Don McManamey was the music leader. The congregation sang "Earth Holds No Treasure," "Farther Along," "Paradise Valley" and "If We Never Meet Again."
Casket bearers were Brian Bell, Bob Hartung, Gerald Lawrence, Terry Lawrence, Warren Sickles and Chris Smith.
A memorial has been established with Winfield Rest Haven.
William Wood
Services for William Paul Wood, 71, who died Feb. 12, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Norman Reeves officiated. Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.
Vocal music was "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 of Winfield performed military graveside ceremonies.
Honorary casket bearer was Jerry Wood. Casket bearers were Vance Handlin, Joe Kent, Kenny Moore, Kevin Neighbors, Tony Tapia and Beau Bailey.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Julia Welch
PLACENTIA, Calif. - Julia Welch, 75, of Placentia, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., died Feb. 13, 1999, in Brea, Calif.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Church, 5200 Troost, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, Mo. McGilley Midtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with the St. Jude Medical Center Guild Department and the American Diabetes Association.
Welch was born May 16, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to John and Catherine (O'Donoghue) Welch, formerly of Moline.
She was an economic consultant for the U.S. Department of State for 30 years before her retirement.
Survivors include a brother, the Rev. John J. Welch, S.J., of St. Louis; six nieces and three nephews.
Ruby Topper
Services for Ruby Topper, 65, who died Feb. 9, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Steve Souther officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Solo music included "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were Randall, Neil and Jared Watt, Larry and Keith Bruce and Rusty McPherson.
A memorial has been established with the William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Margaret Yarbrough
BETHEL ISLAND, Calif. - Margaret Jones Yarbrough, 80, homemaker, formerly of Cambridge, died Feb. 16, 1999.
Burial was in Livermore, Calif.
Yarbrough was born March 23, 1919, to Catherine and Elmer Jones. She spent much of her youth in the Cambridge vicinity. For a while she lived with her mother and sister in Bluefield, W.Va., then returned to live with an uncle and aunt, Luther and Ethel Hawley, near Cambridge.
On Feb. 14, 1939, she married Wayne Yarbrough. They made their home in Petaluma, Calif.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce; a sister, Madeline Young; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband and a daughter, Elsie, preceded her in death.
Fern Defore
Services for M. Fern Defore, 83, who died Feb. 13, 1999, were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Organist was Laura Belle Haines. Ed Larsen sang "How Great Thou Art," "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden."
Casket bearers were Ronald Stevenson, George Storey, Larry Thiel, Coye Thompson, Jack Thompson and Mike Thompson.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
Charlotte VanLaningham
TOPEKA - Charlotte Love VanLaningham, 98, of Topeka, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 17, 1999, at Rolling Hills Health Center.
Services and inurnment will be held later in Highland Cemetery
in Winfield. Newcomer Family Funeral Home of Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
VanLaningham was born Oct. 27, 1900, in Stanburn, Scotland, to John Aitken and Bethea Love. She attended school in Novinger, Mo.
On Jan. 17, 1918, she married Edgar Leon VanLaningham in Kirksville, Mo. He died Nov. 17, 1961.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Winfield.
Survivors include a son, E.L. VanLaningham, Topeka; a daughter, Geraldine Thomas, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Ruth Lamb, Detroit, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Two children, John VanLaningham in 1996 and Leslie VanLaningham in infancy, preceded her in death.
F.G. and Donna Liebau
GRENOLA - F. G. "Buck" and Donna Joann Liebau, both 65, of rural Grenola, died in an airplane accident on Feb. 20, 1999.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Grenola Community Building.
A memorial fund has been established. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Buck Liebau was born in a farmhouse one mile north of Grenola on April 9, 1933, to Gilbert Leroy and Enah Aldina (Nelson) Liebau. He was educated in the Laramie, Wyo., public school system and graduated in 1951.
Donna Joann Liebau was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., on Aug. 28, 1933, to Walter D. and Elsie L. (Johnson) Robison. She received her primary education in Cheyenne schools and graduated from Laramie High School in 1951.
The Liebaus married on April 6, 1952, in Greeley, Colo., and moved to Grenola where they made their home for 47 years.
They were proprietors of Liebau Aerial Spray Service and members of the Kansas Agricultural Association, AOPA and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include two sons, Ken Liebau, Grenola, and Chuck Liebau, Cambridge; a daughter, Vickie Shore, Grenola; Buck Liebau's sister, Priscilla Rivers, Grenola, his aunt, Alberta Young, Howard; Joann Liebau's brother, Don "Robo" Robison, Kailua, Hawaii, and her sister, Doris Cochran, Laramie Wyo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
