Irl Wall
UDALL - Irl E. Wall Jr., 76, of Udall, died Aug. 13, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church in Udall. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery
in El Dorado.
Memorials have been established with the American Lung Association and the Udall United Methodist Church. Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado has charge of arrangements.
Wall was born April 4, 1922, in El Dorado, to Irl E. and Lillian (Hiedeman) Wall.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
On April 15, 1946, he married Myrtle Pauline "Polly" Davis in El Dorado. She died May 24, 1989.
For 30 years he served as city manager in Yale, Okla.; Tonkawa, Okla.; and Henryetta, Okla. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church, the Arkansas City Masonic Lodge and Midian Shrine of Wichita.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Grant, Udall; a brother, Jerry Wall, Billings, Mont.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
David Alberding
Services for David Charles Alberding, 59, who died Aug. 11, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 14, 1998, at Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Ted Brown officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, south of Winfield.
Chris Muret sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." June Vasey was the organist.
Honorary casket bearers were Mr. Alberding's co-workers from Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
Casket bearers were Curtis Dick, Ron Heffron, Joe Muret, Max Rhodd, Randy Wagner and Homer Williams.
Memorials have been established with the Respiratory Services Department at William Newton Memorial Hospital and for Pulmonary Medical Association, Crow-Tretbar, in Wichita.
Herman Dahlstrom
Herman Paul Dahlstrom, 82, of 2720 E. 12th, Winfield, died Aug. 15, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Resthaven Cemetery
in Wichita. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with the Alzheimer's Association and the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral service.
Dahlstrom was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Caldwell, to August and Pauline Kathryn (Setzer) Dahlstrom. He was raised and educated in Wichita.
He was employed for several years as a machinist for the Cardwell Co. and began work as a machinist for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. He retired from Boeing in 1983 following 35 years of employment.
On March 20, 1938, he married Opal Audine Bailey in Lyons County. They resided in Wichita during most of their marriage. His wife died in 1984.
Dahlstrom moved to Arkansas City in 1989 and had lived in Winfield since 1995.
A member of Central Community Church in Wichita and formerly of the First Church of God, Dahlstrom was also affiliated with the Aero Lodge of the Machinists Union. He was formerly active with Peach Valley Square Dance Club.
Survivors include a son, Steven P. Dahlstrom, Wichita; three daughters, Virginia Headley, Fort St. Lucie, Fla., Jackie Newkirk, Aurora, Colo., and Paula Campbell, Olathe; his guardian, Maxine Collins, Winfield; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jack Edmonson
Jack E. Edmonson, 71, of 517 Davis, Winfield, died Aug. 15, 1998, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society.
Edmonson was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Shidler, Okla., to Samuel and Zola (Riddle) Edmonson. He was raised and educated in the Harrison, Ark., area.
In 1946 he married Jewell Mae Flippo. They later divorced. In 1958 he married Beth Alexander, and they, too, divorced.
Edmonson was manager and later owner of Hammersmith Lumber Co. in Harrison and Yellville, Ark.
He attended the Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Yellville Chamber of Commerce and Yellville City Council.
Survivors include two sons, Mitcheal Edmonson, Winfield, and Tom Edmonson, Headley, Texas; three daughters, Carolyn Beale and Lucy Adams, both of Winfield, and Jackie Beth Schlicher, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Samuel Edmonson and Fred Edmonson, and three sisters, Barbara Harness, Martha Smith and Beatrice Powers, all of Harrison, Ark.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Virginia Edgington
WICHITA - Virginia B. Edgington, 82, retired elementary school teacher, of Wichita, died Aug. 14, 1998.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Altoona Cemetery. Downing & Lahey Mortuary, East Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church in Altoona.
Survivors include a sister, Hazelle Barnhill, Winfield, and a grandnephew, Stuart L. Brown, Wichita.
Martha Schooling
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - Martha L. (Staton) Schooling, 67, formerly of Winfield, died Aug. 16, 1998.
Services and burial will be private. Family Funeral Care of Bolingbrook is in charge of arrangements.
Schooling was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Pawnee, Okla.
She and her husband, Frank, lived in Winfield for almost 20 years. They divorced, and she moved to Illinois to live with her son and his family. She had worked as a waitress in Winfield.
Survivors include a son, David Hansen; a brother, Bill Staton; two sisters, Lethea Dixon and Nadine Glaze; and eight grandchildren.
Cloa Wilson
Services for Cloa Juanita Wilson, 100, who died Aug. 13, 1998, were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 15 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Thornton officiated.
Memorials have been established with the van fund at Cumbernauld Village and the First United Methodist Church, both of Winfield.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Lewis
Mary Jeanne Lewis, 83, of Winfield, died Aug. 12, 1998, at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City until 8 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Lewis was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Winfield, to Harry William and Mildred Burnett (Muret) King. She was raised in the Winfield community and graduated from Winfield High School in 1933.
During World War II, she worked at Strother Field and for Boeing in Wichita. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for Kerr's in Winfield.
On May 16, 1959, she married Melvin Lewis in Winfield. He died Feb. 3, 1993.
Lewis was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Marjorie Mead, Houston, Harriet Wright, Dallas, and Barbara Myer, McGehee, Ark.
Hugh Mawdsley
Services for Hugh Barton Mawdsley, 92, who died Aug. 12, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Jim Taylor and Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Nolte gave the eulogy written by Robert Mawdsley.
Vocal music selections were "Jesus Is All the World to Me," "In the Garden" and "For God So Loved the World," performed by Jerry Patterson. Marge Taylor was the organist. The congregation sang "Nearer My God to Thee."
Casket bearers were Ted Biby, Jerry Blomgren, Don Brewer, Alan Rush, Floyd Thomas and Delbert Waldorf.
Memorials have been established with Grace United Methodist Church and Hospice Inc.
Jack Edmonson
Services for Jack E. Edmonson, 71, who died Aug. 15, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Gailard Hopkins officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Music included "In the Garden" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?"
Casket bearers were Brad Adams, David, Chris and Matt Babcock, Sean Beale and Zlatko Djurovic.
