Margaret Henderson
ARKANSAS CITY - Margaret E. Henderson, 77, of Arkansas City, died April 16, 1998, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. Billy Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Henderson was born April 6, 1921, in Derby, to G.W. and Gertrude (Taylor) Dyer. She lived in Hackney and attended Winfield schools. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1939.
On Aug. 31, 1940, she married Frank M. Henderson in Pleasant Valley. They made their home in Arkansas City.
She worked for Stanley Home Products, J.C. Penney and Hillcrest Lanes and retired from Peterson's Drug.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Henderson, Arkansas City; a son, Francis "Butch" Henderson, Kearney, Mo.; two stepbrothers, Moses Cales, Winfield, and Elmer Cales, Bolivar, Mo.; a stepsister, Alma Leavel, Winfield; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Anderson Beall
ARKANSAS CITY - Anderson P. "Andy" Beall, 84, of Arkansas City, died April 17, 1998, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God-Holiness. Pastor Gary Brewer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Beall was born March 9, 1914, in Covington, Okla., to Levi Daniel and Margaret Emily (Bowman) Beall. The family moved to Kansas when he was a child.
On Nov. 21, 1939, he married Florence M. Bell in Winfield. In 1946 they moved from Winfield to Arkansas City.
Beall had been a cook at King's Restaurant in Winfield and Diebel's Restaurant in Arkansas City. He also worked at Dixie-Portland Flour Mill and later at the Smith-Moon Steel Fabrication Plant at Strother Field before he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Beall, Arkansas City; a son, Jim Beall, Blackwell, Okla.; a daughter, Andrea Dickson, Arkansas City; a stepbrother, Jack Metzger, Eldon, Mo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ethel Kelley
WICHITA - Ethel Kelley, 79, of Wichita, homemaker, died April 17, 1918.
Services were held at 11 a.m. April 20 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary, Wichita. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc., P.O. Box 3267, Wichita, KS 67201-3267.
Kelley was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Winfield, to Leroy Martin and Ethel Leach.
Survivors include her husband, Anderson Kelley, Wichita; two daughters, Sharolyn Kay Ramsey, Mulvane, and Carol Ann Snow, Norman, Okla.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lillian Ditmore
Lillian E. Ditmore, 76, of Winfield, died April 18, 1998, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Steve Souther will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with First Presbyterian Church.
Ditmore was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Hill City, to Ruben and Flossie (Stucky) Benedict. She was raised in the Winfield area and attended Winfield schools. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1939 and received her cosmetologist's license from St. John's College.
She taught at the Centennial grade school near Strother Field and substituted at R-9 grade school.
On July 28, 1943, she married Howard E. Ditmore in Winfield.
Ditmore worked as a beauty operator at Kerr's and was co-owner of Ditmore Glass, 709 Main, for 11 years.
She was a den mother in the Hackney community and served as youth advisor at First Presbyterian Church for four years.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Ditmore, Winfield; a brother, Joe Hall, Pierce, Ariz.; and a sister, Ellen Dawson, Bella Vista, Ark.
A son, Gale Lee, preceded her in death.
Theodore Neises
BELLE PLAINE - Theodore A. Neises, 70, of Belle Plaine, died April 14, 1998, at his home.
The Rosary was said at 7 p.m. April 16, and a Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. April 17, both at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. The Revs. Michael Nolan, Steven Tahpwa, Francis Cox and David Linnebur concelebrated the Mass. Burial was in Oxford Cemetery.
Dorothy Groene was the organist, and Sharon Short was the song leader.
Casket bearers were Michael, Alfred, Albert, Lawrence and John Neises and John Ellenz.
A memorial was established with Harbor House in Wichita. Contributions can be made through Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home of Oxford.
Neises was born April 25, 1927, in Wichita, to John M. and Ernestine (Schwenker) Neises. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1951 to 1953.
On Aug. 25, 1954, he married Bernice Freund in Colwich.
A retired farmer, Neises lived in the Oxford and Belle Plaine area for many years. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Dan C. Matson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Wellington.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Neises, Belle Plaine; five sons, Michael Neises, Belle Plaine, Alfred, Albert and Lawrence Neises, all of Oxford, and John Neises, Wellington; six daughters, Margaret Rippe, Arkansas City, Janice Cartwright and Elaine Ellenz, both of Olathe, Kathleen Widener, Wichita, Lois Linnebur, Conway Springs, and Annette Maurer, Udall; his mother, Ernestine Neises, Belle Plaine; three brothers, John Neises Jr., Geuda Springs, Jim Neises, Belle Plaine, and Ed Neises, Wellington; seven sisters, Louise Hoffman, Hope, Clara Zimmerman, Wellington, Helen Conklin, Argonia, Betty Smith, Scranton, Patricia Neises and Beverly Scobee, both of Belle Plaine, and Vivian Ward, Topeka; 31 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
George Haywood
Services for George Haywood Jr., 72, who died April 14, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. April 21 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. James Hough and Brother William E. Drew officiated.
Winfield American Legion Post 10 conducted military ceremonies.
Casket bearers were Douglass Benton, William Brooks, Oliver Duru, Shawn Harper, Uko Tyrawn Okon and Santiago Suazo.
A memorial has been established with Bethel AME Church.

Lillian Ditmore
Services for Lillian Ditmore, 76, who died April 18, 1998, were held at 10:30 a.m. April 21 in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Steve Souther officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Organist was June Vasey, and vocalist was Sandra Nace.
Honorary casket bearers were Ivan Montandon, Robert Duncan and Don Nance.
Casket bearers were Myron Schwartz, Leon Howell, Marvin Roady, Leland Tredway, John Baker and Jim McDowell.
Eulah Beightol
DOUGLASS - Services for Eulah Wanda Beightol, 96, who died April 15, 1998, were held at 2 p.m. April 20 in Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated.
The vocal selection was "Peace in the Valley."
A memorial has been established with the Atlanta United Methodist Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Williams
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - Mary Kathryn (Glantz) Williams, 76, professional seamstress, of Wheat Ridge, died April 19, 1998, in Wheat Ridge.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. April 23 in Olinger's Wadsworth Chapel in Denver. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, also in Denver.
Williams was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Marshalltown, Iowa.
In 1945 she married Loren Green. In 1958 she married Reuben Glantz. In 1982 she married Jean Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Jean A. Williams, Wheat Ridge; a son, Richard Green, Canton, Texas; a daughter, Lorna (Green) Stephens, Burden; a sister, Martha Vajgrt, Marshalltown, Iowa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cassie Towles
ARKANSAS CITY - Cassie L. Towles, 60, of Arkansas City, died April 21, 1998, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
Towles was born March 24, 1938, in Pawnee, Okla., a daughter of Willie and Octa Lee (Hanson) Hall. In 1944 the family moved to Arkansas City where she attended local schools.
On Sept. 8, 1958, she married Harold Hardy Towles in Arkansas City. He died April 10, 1969.
Towles had worked at the Arkansas City Country Club and Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
Survivors include four sons, Alan Ray Towles, Harold Towles Jr., David Eugene Towles and Brian D. Towles, all of Arkansas City; two daughters, Kathy Louise Cox, Wichita, and Selena Michelle Towles, Arkansas City; her mother and stepfather, Octa and Odell Bumpas, Arkansas City; three brothers, Willie Hall, Dwayne Hall and John Virgil Hall, all of Arkansas City; two sisters, Elvee Hall, Winfield, and Georgia Redd, Wichita; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Cheryl Towles, preceded her in death.
