LELA WIGGINS
TOPEKA - Lela Wiggins, 94, formerly of Wellsville, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Plaza West Nursing Home, Topeka. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilson and Son Chapel, Wellsville. She was born Sept. 16, 1906, in Wellsville to Jacob M. and Della J. (Pruitt) Sleppy. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1924. She attended a business college in Kansas City and later worked as a bookkeeper for Sunflower Ordinance and American Polled Herford. She was also a housemother at Baker University. On Sept. 23, 1925, she married
Raymond L. Wiggins in Independence, Mo. He died in 1965. Lela was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Topeka. She is survived by her daughter, Naomi Lambert, Topeka; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two sons, Larry Wiggins, who died in 1990, and Donald Wiggins who died in 1989; two brothers; one stepgrandson; a great-grandson, and a stepgreat-grandson. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Wednesday before services. Burial will be at the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation in care of Wilson and Son Funeral Home.
GARY W. DAVIS
Gary W. Davis, 48, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in rural Ottawa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Highland cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Maldonado officiating. He was born Jan. 5, 1953, in Ottawa to Robert Lee "Bo" and Wilma Irene (Bryan) Davis. He attended Williamsburg High School. He was a life-long Ottawa and Franklin County resident. He married
Melissa Lee Jones and was later divorced. For 15 years he was self-employed in construction. He was co-owner/operator of D & D Siding, Ottawa. He is survived by three sons, Chad Davis, Texas, Brandon Davis and Dustin Davis, both of the home; a daughter Sadie Davis, of the home; two brothers, Bobby Davis, Williamsburg, and Tony Davis, Gardner; five sisters, Penny Ledom, Gardner, Peggy Kelly, Wellsville, Connie Wood, Princeton, Cyndi Bettage, Gardner, and Trudy Bowne, Emporia; and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father who died Dec. 4, 1994; his mother who died Feb. 13, 2000, and a sister Mary Jo Green, June 14, 1980. His body will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 6 p.m. Thursday, with family meeting friends 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Gary Davis Memorial Fund.

PAUL L. AUTENRIETH
GLADSTONE, Mo. - Paul L. Autenrieth, 81, Gladstone, Mo., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at North Kansas City, Mo., Hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Northland Cathedral Assembly of God Church. He was born Feb. 2, 1920, at Princeton to Otis and Bertha (Groves) Autenrieth. He grew up in Ottawa. He worked for Woods Industries for 30 years. He was Kansas State Truck Driver of the Year in 1969 after 2.5 million accident-free miles. After retirement, he was chief engineer at the Carriage Club and Westin Crown Center Hotel, both Kansas City. He was a member of the Clay County, Mo., Optimist Club and the Northland Cathedral. He also served as mayor of Oakwood Park, Mo. Survivors include his wife Glenna (Seright) Autenrieth, of the home; two daughters, Paula Woolard, Lees Summit, Mo., and Vicki Wessler, Kansas City; brother John Autenrieth, Sweeney, Texas; and sister Thelma Strahan, Phoenix; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. DONALD 'SLIM' AVERILL
WELLSVILLE - Donald "Slim" Averill, 91, Wellsville, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Baldwin Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Wilson and Son Chapel, Wellsville. He was born Sept. 28, 1909, to Louis Albert and Anna Ruth (Harrison) Averill in Wellsville, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1926. He took an agricultural short course at Kansas State University and spent most of his life farming in the Wellsville area. On Sept. 20, 1933, he married
Vona Correen Broers in Kansas City. She died in 1973. On Sept. 25, 1982, he married
Gladys Berniece Childs in Wellsville. She died in 1995. He was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church, the Fit-N-Fun Club, Wellsville Senior Center, and in previous years was a 4-H leader, a school board member for the Wellsville schools, a township board member, and was also a Franklin County commissioner in the early 1960s. He is survived by a son, Larry Averill, Wellsville; a daughter, Belva Hick, Lawrence; a stepson, Darrell Child, Wellsville: four grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Friends may call 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be at the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wellsville United Methodist Church.
JACQUELYN 'Jackie' DRAKE
Jacquelyn "Jackie"Drake, 75, Ottawa, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. She was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Baird, Neb., to Ernest and Olive (Jackson) Andersen. She grew up and graduated from Eudora High School in 1943. During World War II she worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto. She married
Harvey M. Drake July 22, 1946, in Kansas City. He died July 28, 1978. They moved to Ottawa in 1956. She was a homemaker.She worked at the Ottawa Recreation Commission as a facilities supervisor, keeping score and announcing games for over 40 years. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Drake and Terry Drake, both of Ottawa; a brother, Vernon Anderson, Olathe; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Lynn Drake who died in 1957; a brother, Gordon Andersen, and two sisters, Maxine Busick and Marjorie Andersen. Family will receive friends at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ottawa Recreation Commission.
MARJORIE JONES
KINCAID - Marjorie Jones, 82, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Colony, with Lee Bahney officiating. She was born March 30, 1919, Hartford to Arthur J. and Daisy (Monypeny) Hetzel. She attended the University of Kansas, earning a bachelor degree in 1941 and later received a master's degree from Emporia State University. She married
Howard Jones Sept. 23, 1946. He preceded her in death. She taught business and science. She last taught at the Iola USD 257, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, National Education Association, National Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority of Iola. She is survived by a son, Richard Jones, Gas City; a daughter Cathie Feese, Kincaid; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hetzel. Her body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with visitation 7-8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at the Colony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital of St. Louis.
CLARENCE 'MAC'" D. J. McFADDEN
GOLDEN, Colo. - Clarence "Mac" D. J. McFadden, 74, Golden, Colo., died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Denver. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church of Golden. He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Pomona to Earl and Anna McFadden. He grew up in eastern Kansas. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII with the 769th Base Unit in Japan. He joined the Air Force Reserves when he returned to the United States and was a member of the 442nd Troop Carrier Wing at Richard-Gebaur Air Force Base. He married
M. Delores "Dee" Miller on Dec. 28, 1947, in Ottawa. She survives. He was an electrical contractor, owning his own business in Ottawa. He moved to Colorado and was employed by Bashor Electric in Boulder for many years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 30 years, and served as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #5901 in Ottawa, serving two terms as post commander, and after moving to Colorado served one term as post commander and 13 years as quartermaster at Post #4171, Golden. He was a member of the American Legion Post #21 in Golden. He is survived by a son, Bruce McFadden, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; a daughter, Lynda Mills, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two brothers, Leo McFadden, Golden, and Roy McFadden Rimrock, Ariz.; sister Louella Ray, of Golden, and two granddaughters. Burial will be at the Golden Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to Porter Hospice, 2379 S. DELANE DEE BULMER
TOPEKA - Delane Dee Bulmer, 38, Topeka, died Monday, April 30, 2001. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. He was born Dec. 5, 1962, in Gardner to Lee Milner and Peggy Ann (Porter) Bulmer. He grew up in the Michigan Valley area and attended Appanoose Grade School and graduated from Pomona High School in 1981. He He attended the Salina Area Vo-Tech School and served in the United States Marine Corps, and the Kansas Army National Guard 1984-1986. He then attended the Goodland Vo-Tech School. He married
Patricia Sharp on March 29, 1984. They later divorced. He had lived in Michigan Valley, Osage City and Goodland for several years and the last few months in Topeka. He was employed as a fiber optic technician for Qwest Communications Company, Topeka. He worked for several years for the Ohse Meat Company, Topeka, as a truck driver, and Nortel Communications for a year and a half. He is survived by two sons, Chance Adam Bulmer, and Thane Michael Bulmer of Colby; his parents, rural Michigan Valley; twin brother, Dana Lee Bulmer of Newcastle, Okla.; two sisters, Renea Kay Bulmer, Topeka, and Tammy Q. Phillips, Tribune; grandmother, Bernice Bulmer, Lawrence; four nieces, and two nephews. His body will lie in state 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Feltner Chapel, Lyndon, with family receiving friends, 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at the Valley Brook Cemetery, Overbrook.
