MELVA ELIZABETH HENDERSON
HARVEYVILLE -- Melva Elizabeth Price Henderson, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Overbrook. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Harveyville United Methodist Church. She was born Oct. 1, 1914, at Bushong to George and Nellie Price. She married Chester D. Henderson, March 29, 1934, at Alma. He preceded in her death. Survivors include sons, Donald, Robert and James Henderson, all of Topeka; daughters, Marilyn Slade, Harveyville, and Betty Barrett, Ottawa; a brother George Price, Wichita; 15 grandchildren, 19 great granchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery, south of Harveyville. Friends may pay their respects from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carey Funeral Home, Burlingame. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Harveyville Fire Department, the Harveyville United Methodist Church or the Heart of America Hospice and sent to the funeral home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.

JACK CROMWELL
Willard "Jack" Cromwell Sr., 96, Ottawa, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. He was born July 25, 1910, at Williamsburg to William Oliver and Annie (Morris) Cromwell. He grew up in Franklin County. He lived in Osage and Franklin counties and moved to Ottawa in the mid- to late-1960s. He attended school in Williamsburg. He was a lifelong farmer and a caretaker of Mt. Hope cemetery in Williamsburg. He married Elsie May Arnett Nov. 7, 1933, at Garnett. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 1998. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William M. Cromwell Jr.; two brothers, Leo Cromwell and Perry Cromwell; and three sisters, Minnie Kime, Myrtle Johnson and Effie Gault. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Lois Cromwell, Weatherford, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Melanie Cromwell, Lawrence; a son-and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Joyce Cromwell, Lawrence; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger D. and Patty Cromwell, Ottawa; grandchildren Christa Hoesch, Mike Cromwell, Lorrain Cromwell, Brandon Cromwell, Travis Cromwell, Kim Norris, Angie Gettler, Jackie Ellington and Greg Dujmovic; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg. Friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Wellsville Manor Nursing Home and sent in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.

MICHAEL HOLLER
RANTOUL -- Michael W. Hller, 37, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, Leavenworth. He was born, May 1, 1969, at Coffeyville to Bil J. and Kay (Hill) Holler. He graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School in 1987. He coached his sons wrestling and baseball teams and enjoyed camping and horseback riding. He also loved sports and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Ruanna; sons Gage and Gavin Holler; parents, Roger and Kay Michaud; brothers, Bill J. Holler Jr., Chris Michaud, Nathan Michaud, all of Leavenworth, and Brian J. Holler, Coffeyville; sisters, Alexius Baesl, Leavenworth, and Gerri Holler, Coffeyville; seven nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill J. Holler Sr., and grandfathers Charles Rayburn Hill Sr. and Charles H. Holler. Burial will follow the service and will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth. Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be to Gage and Gavin Holler in care of the funeral home, 707 S. 6th St., Leavenworth, KS 66048.

PAUL H. BENNETT
GARNETT -- Paul Homer Bennett, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church, Kincaid. He was born Feb. 8, 1929, at Garnett to Homer and Florence Bennett. He attended Kansas State University for two years. He served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Bennett Construction. He married Wilma (Mathews) Bennett May 8, 1955, at Garnett. She survives. Survivors also include a son, Jerry Bennett, Garnett; daughters, Paula Jo Walter, Manhattan, and Diana Bennett, Loveland, Colo.; brothers, Dr. Howard Bennett, Petersburg, Ill., Jim Bennett, Ripon, Wisc., and George Bennett, Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Rebecca Price, Wichita, and Martha McDysan, Fredricksburg, Va. and 14 grandchildren. Burial will be at Springield Cemetery, Garnett. Friends may pay their respects from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ferris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church.

FRANK JUNIOR CAMPBELL
Frank Junior Campbell, 82, of Pomona, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. following the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Valley United Methodist Church or Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S, Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.

DENNIS ALLEN GREENE
GARNETT -- Dennis Allen Greene, 70, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, in LaCygne. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 13, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Wellsville. He was born Aug. 7, 1936, in St. Louis, Mo. to Chester and Wilma Greene. He graduated from Everton High School in Everton, Mo. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He retired from Smith & Loveless, Lenexa, in 1996 and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. He married Barbara Jean Tillery March 8, 1957, in Kansas City, Kan. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. She survives. Survivors also include a son and his wife, Robert and Mary Greene, Port St. Johns, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Rosa Greene, Wellsville; sisters, Rosemary Cusintz and Cynthia Kelley, Kansas; brothers, Kenneth Greene, Arkansas; and Kevin Greene, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Fred Tillery, Indiana; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tim Greene Sr. Burial will be at Wellsville Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Dennis Greene Memorial Fund in care of Wilson's, P.O. Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092

Edna V. Mog
FRONTENAC — Edna V. Mog, 90 of Frontenac, KS died at 6:50 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at her home. Edna was born August 23, 1918 in Fairgrove, MO to Roscoe and Ola (Blunt) Tracy. As a small child she moved with her parents to Parsons, KS, where she attended schools, graduating from High School in 1937. In 1937, she married Chester Maupin. He preceded her in death. On April 23, 1959, she married Sinnie Mog. They moved to La Harpe, KS where she lived for the next 30 years, before moving to Frontenac in 1991 to be near her daughter and family. Sinnie preceded her in death October 5, 1992. Edna was a seamstress and worked for Brodericks in Parsons for many years. Edna belonged to the Golden Gate Chapter O.E.S. in La Harpe. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, two brothers and two sisters. Edna is survived by her daughter Anna Wiseman and husband Richard of Frontenac, KS; grandsons Joe Wiseman and wife Janette of Pittsburg and Scott Wiseman and wife Judy of Frontenac, KS; along with three great-grandsons Jeff Wiseman of Arizona, Shannon Wiseman and Zack Wiseman both of Frontenac, KS. Graveside services will be 1:00pm, Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Frontenac City cemetery in Frontenac, KS with Bud Cooper officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay St., Frontenac, by 12:45 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 3 p.m. on Friday.

John R. Sheets
PITTSBURG — John R. Sheets 68, of Pittsburg, KS died 12:30 a.m. Friday May 15, 2009 at his home following a long illness. John was born April 24, 1941 in Nevada, Missouri to William and Minnie (Cooper) Sheets. He lived in the Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri area most all his life. He attended area schools in Pittsburg, KS. On February 14, 1959 he married Nancy Phillips in Pittsburg, KS; she survives at the home. John was a Production Superintendent for Missouri American Water Works for 30 years before retiring in 1996. John was a member of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church and was of the Christian Faith. He held positions on the City Council and the Good Neighbors Day Committee in Carterville, Missouri. In his free time he enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles, hunting and fishing, casinos and most of all his children, grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife “Edge”, daughters Joann Bauer “Bo” of Oronogo, Missouri, Johna Danner “Fats” and husband Marty of Joplin, Missouri, Jeanna Southard “Toe” and husband Chad of Atlanta, Georgia; mother Minnie Cooper “Turtle”; sister Nancy Mussat “Blubber” and husband Bob of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren Tiffany Smith, Tara Addington and husband Jared, Travis Bauer and wife Chandra, Christina Southard, Vanessa Southard, Dakota Bauer and Keysha Danner; great-grandchildren McKayla Smith, Cameron Addington, Cayle Addington and Kaliegh Bauer; and his loving dog Nikki. He was preceded in death by his daughter Joleen B. Sheets, father William Sheets, stepfather Lester Cooper, and his grandparents. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday May 18, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS with Rev. James Fryer officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Sunday May 17, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS 66763. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Friskel Funeral Home of Frontenac, KS.

Clara Etta Upton
PITTSBURG — Clara Etta Upton, 85 of Pittsburg died at 6:53 am Wednesday June 17, 2009 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center following a short illness. She was born March 5, 1924 in Mammoth Springs, AR the daughter of Alonzo F. and Lilly F. (Shupp) Woten. On March 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charles Edward Upton in W. Plains, MO; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1987. Clara was a homemaker and also worked as a clerk in a drug store in Thayer, AR. She was a member of the Wesley House Methodist Church in Pittsburg. Survivors include 2 sons Carl Dean Upton of Galena, KS and Howard Wayne Upton of Wappapello, MO; a daughter: Joyce Marie Rader of Fallun, KS; brother Lloyd Ray Woten of Indianapolis, IN; sister Dolly Bishop of Mammoth Springs, AR and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step daughter Shirley Jean Upton and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1 pm before service time. Memorials may be left to the Wesley House; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS.

Roberta Lee Cicero
PITTSBURG — Roberta Lee Cicero, 68 of Pittsburg, passed away, Tuesday, June 30, 2008 at her home. She had been in failing health since 2004. She was born March 31, 1941 in Eureka, KS the daughter of Ottie and Virginia (Pennington) Smith. She attended area schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School with the Class of 1959; she then went on to the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing where she graduated in 1962. On August 22, 1964 she was united in marriage to Richard Cicero at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac; he survives her of the home. Roberta was raised by her grandparents Walter and Clara Pennington and an aunt Ruby Dyke, they all precede her in death. After graduating from nursing school she started her surgical nursing career at Mt. Carmel Hospital, known today as Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center. She dearly loved taking care of her patients, which she did for nearly thirty years. Survivors include a son Rick Cicero of Frontenac, and a daughter Renee Pittsburg, Angel, Amanda and Anna Cicero of Frontenac and a great grandson Gabe of Pittsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Spencer as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where the family will receive friends after the rosary. Friends may also call at their convenience after 3 p.m. at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; these may be left at or mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.
