Salena Frances Bergant
PITTSBURG — Salena Frances Bergant, 99 of Pittsburg, KS died at 6:07pm, Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Sunset Manor in Frontenac, KS. Salena was born April 24, 1910 in Capaldo, KS to Pete and Nancy DeVore Bickel. She attended area schools graduating from Frontenac High School. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, known today as PSU and later taught. On June 17, 1935, in Ft. Scott, KS, she married Frank Bergant. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1979. Salena was a long time member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church in Frontenac, KS. She belonged to the SNPJ Lodge #9 for many years, Baker Grange, the Gingham Gals and the AARP. Survivors include her son Dr. James A. “Jim” Bergant of Lenexa, KS and daughter Carole Haggard of Olathe, KS; along with 5 grandchildren Kelly Haggard, Jon Haggard, Jimmy Bergant and Allison Crowe and Jessica Bergant, numerous nieces and nephews, along with 6 great-grandchildren. Salena was preceded in death by her parents, sister Leah Smith, brother Joe Bickel and grandson Mike Haggard. Funeral services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Frontenac United Methodist Church in Frontenac, KS with Rev. Dennis Paschke officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac, KS. The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time at the church. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Frontenac United Methodist Church and/or Sunset Manor Activity Fund. Memorials may be left at the church or mailed to Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay St, Frontenac, KS 66763.

Ann T. Grilz
Ann T. Grilz, 87 of Frontenac died Friday August 7, 2009 at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg following a sudden illness. She was born March 25, 1922 in Frontenac, KS the daughter of Louis E. and Catherine (Galliti) Baima. She lived in Frontenac her entire life, attended Frontenac Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Frontenac High School. Ann married Benjamin (Ben) Franklyn Grilz on April 5, 1947 in Girard, KS; he preceded her in death on December 11, 2008. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary Post #43. Survivors include a daughter Linda Grilz of Frontenac; a son Michael Grilz and wife Mary Lou of Plano, TX; 2 grandchildren Ryan and Ashley Grilz both of Plano, TX. Ann also loved her new home-Oakview Estates and considered the staff and residents her new family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son Jeffrey Grilz. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday August 12th at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Dennis Paschke officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Frontenac where friends may call after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. William H. “Bever” Shock
William H. “Bever” Shock, 88 of Frontenac died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday April 19, 2009 at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was born November 21, 1920 in Frontenac, KS the son of H. W. and Nellie (Mycroft) Shock. He was a 1946 graduate of Frontenac High School. William served his country during WWII in the Battle of Iwo Jima serving from 1943 until 1946. He married Ruth Oehme Hebert in 1956, they were married for 53 wonderful years; she survives at the home. William was a construction worker, working for Oehme Brothers Construction for 30 years. He was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, the Frontenac American Legion for 42 years where he served as past commander, Pittsburg Lodge #87 AF & AM York Rite, Scottish rite, Mirza Temple, past patron of Rob Morris Chapter #74, past president of the Noble Nobles & Funsters and a member of the Association of Survivors of Iwo Jima. Survivors include his wife Ruth of the home; 2 Granddaughters Holli and Shala Larsen; two Great-grandchildren Ellie and Samuel; a niece Nellie Kozjek and husband Albert. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 stepsons Jack and Michael Hebert; a stepdaughter Mary Elizabeth Hebert; two sisters Mildred Figel and Mabel Silva and a brother Merle (Bud) Shock. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday April 23, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Pastor Dennis Paschke officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City cemetery where the United States Marine Corps will provide military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where friends may call after noon on Wednesday. The Frontenac American Legion and the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary will do there walk through at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the visitation. The Pittsburg Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mirza Temple Transportation Fund. Memorials may be brought by or mailed to the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS 66763.

Shirley Ann Mangile
PITTSBURG — Shirley Ann Mangile, 73 of Pittsburg, died at 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at her home following a long illness. She was born October 4, 1935 in Asbury, MO the daughter of George and Betty (Burns) Vanderpool. She grew up in Weir, KS and graduated from the Weir High School. She was united in marriage to Eugene Mangile on October 31, 1953 in Girard, KS. They were Life long residents of Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2008. Mrs. Mangile was a homemaker and an avid shopper. She enjoyed getting out and shopping for her grandkids. She also loved cleaning houses. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed attending meetings and functions until her illnesses prevented her from going. Survivors include a son Randy Mangile wife Laura and their children Amy and husband Drew Corbell, Todd and Tyler of Owasso, OK; Carmella Robinson and husband Nathan and their children Jessica, Kimberly, Jordan and Destiny of Wentworth, MO (Carmella was raised as a daughter); a grandson Chase Miller and his children Damion and Alexander of Asbury, MO; three brothers: George and wife June, Larry Vanderpool and Terry and wife Debbie along with several other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Ronald and Steven Mangile. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday. The Order of the Eastern Star Rob Morris Chapter No. 74 will provide rites at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be left to Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) or The American Hearing Foundation. These may be left at or mailed to the Friskel Funeral Home.

Ella Mae Hetherington
RAYTOWN, Mo. — Ella Mae Hetherington, 81, Raytown, Mo., passed away September 21, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital. Memorial graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 in the Frontenac City cemetery with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Inurnment will follow. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. Graveside services are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS.

John R. Faucett
FRONTENAC — John R. Faucett, 72 of Frontenac, KS died at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at the Freeman Hospital. He was born July 19, 1937 in rural Pittsburg the son of Otto W. and Alma V. (Seely) Faucett. On May 4, 1979 he was united in marriage to Susan Vesci in Miami, OK; she survives him of the home. John was a self-employed mechanic for many years; he also was the owner and operator of Eastside Tours and Eastside Automotive. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the Pittsburg Shriners. Additional survivors include 3 sons Michael and wife Mona Faucett of Pittsburg, Steven Faucett and Janet of Weir and Rick and wife Tracy Faucett of Frontenac; two sisters: Patsy Faucett and Debra Faucett both of Frontenac, one brother Everett Eugene Faucett of Milford Center, OH; five grandsons and 4 granddaughters, four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be 10 am, Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday. Pete Mangile
Pete Mangile, 85 of Capaldo, KS died at 4:40 am, Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Cornerstone Village in Pittsburg. He was born September 12, 1924 in Capaldo the son of Ignazio and Carmella (Redente) Mangile. He attended Capaldo and Frontenac schools. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Jason nicknamed the “Jolly J”. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he worked for the Spencer Chemical Company. Later he worked for KAAP Ammunition plant in Parsons and then the City of Pittsburg Street Dept. until his retirement. He was a long time member of the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 and the V.W.F. of Pittsburg. Survivors include 2 brothers: Ron Mangile of Frontenac and Albert Mangile of Pittsburg; 3 sisters: Lucille Arduino of Pittsburg, Josephine Modica of Chicago, IL and Helen Daniel of Hamilton, OH; a nephew Robert Mangile of Pittsburg who was raised in the family home; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers: Camille, Sam, John, Frank and Eugene “Geno” Mangile. Graveside services will be 10 am, Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Garden of Memories cemetery with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow. Friends and family are requested to meet at the Friskel Funeral Home to follow in the procession to the cemetery. The procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 am Saturday morning. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Friday evening.
Memorials may be left to the PSU Veterans Memorial or Pittsburg Avenue of Flags; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Military honors will be given by the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64 of Pittsburg. Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay P.O. Wilma Jean Meacham
FRONTENAC — Wilma Jean Meacham, 77, died at 3:20 a.m. Friday November 13, 2009 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Facility in Frontenac, KS. She was born December 6, 1931 in Sedan, KS where she grew up and attended elementary and high school. Wilma later devoted her life to working in the medical industry as she loved caring for and helping people. She earned her degree at Pittsburg State University. She cared for the residents of Sunset Manor for 15 years before retiring. She later became a resident and received the same wonderful, loving care. She was preceded in death by her mother Leola Willoughby. She is survived by her brother Bill Meacham of Burrton, KS. 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 7 great, great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where friends may call after 4 p.m. There will be a private graveside services at Greenwood cemetery in Sedan, KS later in the week. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sunset Manor Nursing Home, memorials can be brought by or mailed to Friskel Funeral Home P.O. Box 907 Frontenac, KS 66763.

John (Johnnie) Kotzman
John (Johnnie) Kotzman, 92, of Frontenac, KS died 9:30pm Saturday November 14, 2009 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS following a long illness. Johnnie was born August 7, 1917 in Frontenac, KS to Anton Peter and Mary Ann (Schramm) Kotzman. He attended area schools in Frontenac; graduating from Frontenac High School in 1935. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant with the 13th Airborne Division with the 36th Glider Infantry serving time in Europe from 1942-1945. He received the Good Conduct Metal, European African Theatre Ribbon, the Bronze Battle Star and the Service Stripe. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 43 Frontenac, Kansas. He was of the Catholic Faith. He retired in 1980 with 21 years of service to the Shakeproof Tool Works in Elgin, Illinois. He later moved back to Frontenac to retire and be close to family. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son John Joseph II, five sisters Marie Dabrowski, Barbara Bell, Christine Berteau, Helen Plouvier and Katherine Squillace; brothers Anton Jr., Leonard and Joseph Kotzman. Survivors include his wife Evelyn (Kelly) Kotzman of the home; brother Edward Kotzman of Springfield, TN; daughters Connie Cummins of Pittsburg, KS, Cyndi Kotzman of Neosho, MO, Lucinda Turner of Hutchinson, KS; son Kurt Kotzman of Frontenac, KS; step-son Jim Bolinger of Mulvane, KS; grandchildren Kellie McCulley, Shana Turner, Todd Cummins, Dail Cummins, Katie Kotzman, Kyle Kotzman; great-grandchildren Mollie McCully Chloe McCulley; and a host of nieces, nephews and special extended family at Sunset Manor Nursing Home who’s care was exceptional. Funeral Services will be 10am Wednesday November 18, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Robert Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac, KS where Full Military Honors will be conducted. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Friskel Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1pm on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the American Legion Post 43 Frontenac, KS. Friends are asked to drop off or mail memorials to Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS 66763. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Friskel Funeral Home of Frontenac, KS.
